- Q: I will be putting matching ceramic tile as molding....what is the best way to attach the ceramic molding to the wall?
- Thin set will hold it to a sealed ( painted of primered wall) but it will slip and slide down the wall.If your not stacking it on other tile or it is a heavier type pc ( like a chair rail molding) Mastic , the pre mixed glue is a better way to adhere it with the proper amount of glue. Most all tiles will stay on with out support and dry to the point it will tear off dry wall when removed. Mastic can not be used in a wet area such as in a shower/tub. Can be used outside on the wall. Any questions you can e mail me through my avatar and check my qualifications there. GL
- Q: I want to put ceramic tile in my dining room, my room is 12' x 11'. So how would I go about deciding how many tiles I would need? The tiles are 12x12. But for ceramic tiles dont you have to leave space in between them?
- You will need 132 tiles-get a few extra in case of breakage.I would go with 1/4 space or less. They sell 1/8th inch spacers-less grout to use and less sealer.
- Q: I have broken tiles that i desperately need to fix ,but i cant seem to find a match for the existing tile , is there any place that make the tile for me?
- I have no idea. I know when I had my house tiled, I bought about ten spares just in case. I haven't had to use them yet though. Do you know where you bought the tile? Maybe you could try looking at one of those special order books that they carry in the stores.
- Q: Or can I just start tiling over the painted wall?
- No, you don't NEED backerboard BUT, I'll tell you from experience that it's much easier to work with, makes a better bond and you will have less trouble later on. I recommend the stuff with the little squares etched in (Hardibacker). Good Luck.
- Q: if there are 24 square tiles in a box and there are enough to cover 3 square feet, how big are the tiles?
- 24 tiles/3 sq ft =8 tiles per square foot. Since 8 is not a square, there is no solution, or the tiles cannot be square.
- Q: My granddaughter dropped a hard toy while being held by her Mom. It put a quarter size hole in the center of my ceramic tile. How can I go about filling this hole?
- theres really no way to effectively patch a hole in ceramic, the best way to fix it is to replace it,sorry. repairing a floor tile in a high traffic area such as the kitchen is not a good idea, ceramic has sharp edges when broken and it can and will slice your feet open.I strongly suggest replacing the tile, especially with a little one around.
- Q: Looking for full size Hexagon quarry tile in 6 inch, 8 inch or 10 inch overage size. Not the little pieces that are grouped together.

- Q: how do i do the measuring and lay out on a 10 foot by 6 foot floor when laying the tiles diagonally?
- Find the largest open square in your floor. Strike a cross from corner to corner of this square to get a center point. You can lay out some tiles based on this center point to see how it ends up running toward the door opening (also a significant sight line) and the walls. You don't want slivers of tile cuts at the walls or door opening so you want to manage the center point around these areas. Allowing for larger grout joints can help you with this issue as well though larger grout joints just make for more sanitary issues in a bath floor.
- Q: What is the drill bit?
- Ordinary glazed tiles can be hammer or dual-use drill with the impact drill, The tiles should be fitted with hand drill with glass drill.
- Q: Also, formica or tile for a countertop???
- We have Italian tile in our kitchen (20X20 inch squares) and its great! I wouldn't recommend porcelein because its more likely to crack if you drop a dish. I have heavy earthenware dishes and while the dish is toast if I drop it on the tile, the tile does not crack. I would not recommend tile on a countertop because the grout tends to stain and retain germs that countertops are typically exposed to (e.g. raw meat). Formica is durable but not friendly on the eyes. Why not considering something like corian? It is pretty and resists stains. I have granite in my house that I LOVE but its high maintenance.
