- Tile labor varies a bit from area to area, but you can figure in the $7 a s/f range for basic labor , thin set, grout and 1/2 cement board , which is generally need when installing over the common wood sub floors. - Q:Okay so i live in an apartment and i cant EVER get mant. out here to fix this... the stuff thats between the tiles is missing and it looks gross and then the white rubber stuff that sits between the tub and the tile is coming off in random places.... what is this stuff called and would i be able to fix this junk myself???The white stuff that connects the tubs looks like that white stuff they use to connect the base boards to the hardwood floor...

- Q:I want to remove all the white tiles in my kitchen as some are broken, others don‘t match up and basicially who ever tiled it initially may have been intoxicated, some have come off easy, but others are stuck on tight, tried using a chisel hammer to smash them, but they would splinter and smash like glass, does anyone know a easier less messier way i can do this?
- Try using the claw of a carpenters claw hammer. Slide it down the wall and drive it behind the tile. As others have said, make sure you wear protection. Tile shards fly off and are very sharp. Whatever method you use, its a slow labourious and messy job, especially if the person who fixed the tiles did a good job.

- You are correct, but only if you don't have to cut any tiles and the area you're tiling is basically one big rectangle with nothing in it like counters or appliances. If you have to cut tiles, the general rule of thumb is to multiply by 125%. In your case, that would be 110 tiles -- and bear in mind that general rule doesn't always work.
- Q:Remodeling the bathroom...How can i drill a hole in ceramic tile...What kind of drill would I use..or what kind of file would be best to make a hole in the tile to go around the shower faucet..Thanks for your input...
- You can use a carbide hole cutter in an electric drill. Carbide hole cutters are like ordinary hole saws except the rim is carbide grit instead of teeth. You can get these an several different sizes so you should be able to find one the right size for your purpose. To start the drill, take a nail and hammer a small chip out of the glaze where you want the center of the hole to be, a light tap should do it, this will keep the bit from wandering over the surface and start the hole easier. If it is a wall tile it is probably fairly soft ceramic, not porcelain (which is usually used for floor tile), and it should not be too difficult to drill the hole once you get through the glaze.
- Q:We recently had new porcelain tile installed on our guest bath floor, and we‘d like to clean it regularly without harming the tiles and grout. The tile installer had no recommendations about this process, nor did the tile company where we made the purchase. Researching this info is very confusing. Some sites recommend using only a wet mop, while others claim that vinegar diluted in water is appropriate; others advise using some type of manufactured cleaning product. We know that regular sweeping is necessary, but we‘re unsure which products to use to protect our new floor. If you suggest a wet mop, please advise which is best: Shark, Eureka, Bissell, etc. Thanks for any detailed advice you can provide.
- The number one thing to assist in keeping your floor clean and the grout is a tile and grout sealer. the best one ive used is called 511 impregnator by Miracle Sealents . It is a polymerized silicone which means it seals the pores of stone or tile but also lets it breathe if moisture wanted to come up from below. Other sealers are a coating which down the line could actually trap dirt. After you seal the floor you can poor water on the surface and it will just bead and not sink in to the grout or tiles. you want to apply it maybe once evry six months and they also sell a tile and porcelain cleaner which is a mild soap. - Q:My bathroom in my new house has the ugliest green tile halfway up the wall and then a different shade of green tile on the floor. My husband I have a little experierience with fixing stuff up, but this one has us puzzled. We want to tear the tile down and put up drywall. Then we‘d like to carpet the floor. We haven‘t got the nerve yet cause we don‘t know what to expect behind those tiles on the wall. Got ANY suggestions in my little dilemma???
- If the tiles go all the way around the room, measure up 4' at each corner. Use a chalk line or level to make a horizontal line around the room. All hardware below this line should be removed. Towel bars, heat register covers, cabinets, toilet, door trim, etc. If the wall is drywall, you could cut along this line with a drywall hand saw. If you have access to a sawzall (reciprocating saw), the process will go quick. (If you're handy, you should have this tool). To avoid cutting wires, pipes, pay close attention when cutting. Lay tool against wall in line with chalk line. Start blade, slowly, then lower blade to line. Now tilt blade inward. CAUTION. Go only as deep as needed to penetrate wall. If you go deeper, you risk cutting wires or plumbing. Now pull saw along line around perimiter of room. Safety glasses are recommended during cuttiing and removal. Use hammer to make hole in wall just below cut line. Using Gloves, pull sections of drywall and tile by hand as much as possible. If screws remain in the studs hit with a hammer at a 45% angle. they should break off. If it's nails, you should pull them. Floor tiles will come up with a flat pry bar and a hammer. Just pick a spot along an edge. Use a couple sharp blows with hammer to start, then use flat bar and hammer to peel out floor tile and grout. Hope this motivates you to go for it.
- Q:I want to put tiles down on my kitchen floor, but first I need to pull up the old pattern. It is a whole piece of laminate flooring that is starting to come undone where the dining room and kitchen meet. So how would I go about doing this? Do i just pull the laminate up? Is there a specific way to put the tiles down?
- It's super easy to put down the peel and stick tile. When you get to the corners you can cut the tile with a carpenter's knife or a really sharp pair of scissors. Just make sure you keep the lines straight and it should turn out great. Also, there's this stuff you can buy at Home Depot that you have to put on the old tiles first or the new ones will not stick. Just go in and tell one of the people that work there what you are doing and they will lead you to the right stuff. Just buy a disposable mop to paint it on with and then when it dries lay the new tile on top. It only costs about $5.

This is the important difference between tiles and ceramics
- Q:I have ceramic tile throughout home and in kitchen around one tile the grout or whatever the stuff is between the tile has crumbled and is getting bigger. Can i seal it myself,with what? or do i need to hire a stud to fix it?
- Hire the stud it sounds like you don't want to do this, but to have some handsome well chiseled hunk to watch work.
