- Q: How many types of tiles are there?
- Generally divided into the following: 1, glazed tiles. 2, quintana bricks. 3, polished tiles. 4, tiles. 5, mosaic. 6, antique brick. 1) glazed tiles: clay or porcelain clay covered with glaze and then made of brick; this brick is divided into two categories: one is made of clay, due to high water absorption and must burn glaze. Because the strength of this brick is low, and now rarely used; the other is fired with porcelain clay, in order to pursue the decorative effect of burning glaze, this tile structure is dense, high strength, low water absorption, anti-fouling Strong, the price is slightly higher than the ceramic firing tiles.Common specifications: square glazed tiles have 152 × 152mm, 200 × 200mm, rectangular glazed tiles with 152 × 200mm, 200 × 300mm, commonly used glazed tiles thickness of 5mm and 6mm.
- Q: Recently, my carpet got a bit singed in front of the fireplace. so, I decided to place tile in front of the fireplace. I plan to remove the carpet and the padding. what will be left is the plywood and 2x4‘s. not exactly sure if there is anything under the plywood since this was an addition and is on top of the garage, where the garage is not underground but has cinderblock walls. when my son jumps around, it kinda shakes the floor.what I need to know is if cement board has to be used. can I just place tile over plywood with the appropriate adhesive? remove plywood all together? what is the simplest method for a single momma with low funds who is not familiar with laying tile? my second inquiry is about finishing it off. I can do the grout easy enough, but what about where the tile meets the carpet? I really hate the cheap look of those metal things, but I don‘t know what other options there are except for folding (?) the carpet under (?). suggestions?thanks in advance!!
- In the very least you ll need cement board. For 2 reasons.. One is to have the proper support so the tile won t break and the second is because its fire code ( unless this is a sealed gas fireplace) to have a non combustible in front of the fire place.. There are codes on how big this must be also. Not doing so could possible void any fire insurance you have if a fire should occur.. As far as fixing the carpet it s best to turn and tack the carpet to the tile.. You ll need a carpet installer to do this.. Any questions you can e mail me through my avatar and check my qualifications there. GL
- Q: Does anyone know how to refinish or paint ceramic tile? Or a website showing me how? Please help! =)
- Toffy's okorder /... Basically, you'll need to get the tile very clean, paint in several coats and then seal it with a good urethane. You need to be cautious about floors that will consistently get wet which would cause you problems with the paint and urethane. Also, if you paint and seal your floor I would treat it more like a wood floor as far as cleaning is concerned since you're now just going to be cleaning a urethane surface. Lastly, can I offer some free advice? Once you start painting that floor there is no turning back. It would be almost impossible to remove the paint if you don't like the way it looks and you would probably just have to rip the flooor out or put another flooring over the top of it as Toffy mentioned. If I was thinking about doing this, I would get some similar tiles to what you have and just lay them on a piece of plywood in the garage and do a quick grout job. It doesn't have to be perfect. I would do some testing with paint and urethane to see how it looks and how well it will hold up to wear.
- Q: There is a white ceramic tile floor with white grout in my bathroom. Some of the mastic (I think it was a combination mastic and grout, that could be used either way) is on top of the tile and dried on. Is there any way I can get it off there other than trying to chip at it and possibly ruin the tile?
- there are some all pourpose tile cleaners that cater to these type of problems, some have acidic contents and cannot be used on marble tiles however. it is important that you know the tile and check the lables of any proguct u purchase or use to c if it is compatible. for tips on removing stains and gout see the source link
- Q: Hi, I just wanted to know if Ceramic tiles are better than stone tiles? When we signed a contract for a new house, they offered us Stone tiles, but now they are calling us and telling that they do not offer stone tiles instead ceramic tiles are now standard. I wanted to know which one is better and why?
- Ceramic tile is cheaper than stone but we have installed ceramic or porcelain tiles in all bathrooms for the ease of upkeep. Stone does look richer but it needs to be sealed at least once a year maybe more. The sealing part is easy but the stone tile needs to be completely clean first. That is the 'hard work' part. Ceramic tile will hold up to almost anything in a bathroom and the grout is the only thing that needs sealing. (You'd probably have grout to seal with the stone too) If you signed for stone, I'd make sure that they are going to give you some kind of refund for the difference of the cost. They are saving a a few bucks here so make them pass it on.
- Q: We are redecorating our bathroom. We are on a very limited budget. We can‘t afford to rip out the old tiles and put in new, so we‘re wondering if there is something we can do to make them look new and/or different. Such as painting them? That was my idea, but not sure that tiles can be painted? Can they? And if so how? What exact steps do we need to do to paint the tiles? Or any other ideas on making them look better? Thanks in advance.
- Not really, painting tiles in a humid place is asking for trouble. You'll be replacing them in a year.. As an adjunct most home center now have WP paneling that looks like tile, It is cheap and fair easy to put up with a skilsaw. Comes in 4x8 sheets.
- Q: my bathroom has brown tiles that i hate i bourgh white and stone tile paint there rubbish can i use another paint what kind i cant re tile landlord wont let me so need help
- I think painted tiles always look a bit dodgy, unless you really really carefully paint each individual tile and not the grout (which is a PAIN). You can get tile decals though to stick over them, which although not as nice as retiling usually looks ok.
- Q: well I burned a small hole in a linoleum tile. How do I fix it?
- i okorder . best of luck to you. Kevin
- Q: about a year ago i had tile installed on my home but winter is here and i was wondering if i could get carpet installed over the tile without getting the tile damage
- Actually, if you're talking about ceramic tile, you can't just lay carpet over it... unless you really like the look of seeing the grout indents from the tile that will eventually show through the carpeting. Sorry... I do know how you feel though because my entrance, my hallway, my kitchen and dining area as well as the powder room are all ceramic tile. I live where it gets down to -46 Celsius (with windchill factor). One day, I'll change everything but the kitchen for either hardwood or bamboo or cork, but for now, I solve the cold feet problem by using runners in the hallway, area rugs in the bathroom and kitchen and a sqaure rug in the dining area, under the seating and table (I have a round table). I have an entrance rug and rugs for all the ?(% boots! I also have a basket of home-made knitted slippers in various sizes. That way, even if a guest comes buy (in February, with soaking wet boots and only nylons on her feet), they can enjoy the warmth. There might be a way of putting down a veneer floor without nails, directly on top of your ceramic tile. It would have to be easy to remove. Perhaps using silicone, but you might want to ask that question here on answers, and get a specialist in that area to help. If you can do it without ruining your tile, then you could easily glue a carpet to the veneer floor. My final thought is this: If you're here on Yahoo answers in the decorating forum, you likely enjoy decorating. So take the throw rugs and and area rugs and have fun with it. Turn it into a decorating scheme. When Fall rolls around, pull out those rugs, match them to your decor and color scheme and turn them into part of the room. When Spring rolls around, roll up the rugs, sweep out the winter and turn your floors back into a soothing cool for tired feet. Hope this helps!
