Q:It‘s been a while since I have done tile, but I remember we used to use sheetrock to cover the floor or for back splash wall, however I don‘t remember what it was used for. Is there special cases when you need to use it or do I need to use it every time? What is the purpose to use the sheetrock? Please help. Thanks.
It may have been sheetrock that you remember but more than likely it was some type of special backer product that resembled Sheetrock but was made specifically for use under tile. There are several types available at Lowe's like hardibacker or durarock. Both of these products are designed to be placed on the surface to be tiled before the tile is applied and act to stiffen the substrate. In other words they make the surface that the tile goes onto into one big solid piece as opposed to several sheets of plywood. The benefit of this is that is keeps the tiles from moving in relation to each other which will cause the grout lines in between them to crack and gap. These products are generally put down, when tiling floors, on top of a layer of mortar same as you spread mortar to hold the tiles down. Ans then these backer boards are nailed down with roofing nails and the joints are mortared and usually taped like drywall joints are. Then more mortar is spread on top of these boards and the tile is set into this mortar. Floors generally use the 1/4 thick backer board and when applying on walls the 1/2 backer is used. Just nail to the studs and paint with a waterproofing paint then mortar and apply tiles. Good Luck.
Q:We laid tile in our Master bath about a month and a half ago. Now we have 2 tiles that are crackd. I would like to no what caused it. We have a slab foundation.
the slab may have cracked under the tiles the proper coverage of thinset may not have been used under the tiles too little of a thinset notch or using too stiff of a thinset may have contributed to fix the two tiles, use a grout scraper (available at a hardware store) and scrape the grout out around the offending tiles, use a hammer and chisel, or screwdriver and pop out the cracked tiles, scrape the thinset off the concrete slab, if any, and set two uncracked tiles in their place. make sure when you make up your thinset that you make it up a nice consistency between runny and stiff. it should be thick and sticky like peanut butter. grout the tiles.
Q:Bai Peng tiles origin? how is it?
You have not provided the brand we have tested, to provide you with the method of selecting the tile, I hope to help you. 1 election origin Almost tiles on the market come from two places: Guangdong and Shandong. Guangdong brick overall quality is better than Shandong brick, domestic brands of ceramic tile origin is also generally from Guangdong, so a simple choice of Guangdong brick. (Shandong bricks are also good quality, but more need to blink of an eye). 2 to see flatness Flatness is very critical, if the flatness is very poor, it is difficult to shop in the edge of each tile are not the edge of the gap, there is not only the impact of visual effects affected, serious and even cause Ge (gè) feet. Figure tiles flatness is very poor gap is too large Method one: the same paragraph of the two tiles on the face of the table, his hands pinching side, observe the other side of the tilt, tilt the smaller, the higher the flatness. (This method is suitable for fully flattened bricks that do not apply to antique tiles and bricks with special craftsmanship)
Q:This is a new house and they put 16 inch tiles in the bathrooms, which I don't care for. The floors are fine as far as leveling goes, but I would like to put 12 inch tiles directly over the 16 inch ones. Would there be any problems?
I don't think I would, if it is a shiny glazed tile in place now, There wont be a bond between the old and new tiles. If the current tile is a rough slate tile, maybe. Check the recommendations of the manufacturer of the tile you want to install. Another option is to install 1/4 inch concrete backerboard over the existing tile, but it should be screwed down and that's a real chore in your situation. Maybe the manufacturer knows of a type of mortar that will work on those smooth existing tiles (assuming they are smooth). I recommend you to hire a professional if you can hire. I recommend a company ciciliot who are very professional in this regard.
Q:i have vinyl tile in my dinning room(high traffic) its new but its not brillant ,and i saw a mantenance guy last night in wallmart using a buffer machine to pollish the tile..my question what kind of pad the used?they use any quimical with this pad?..how often this treatment its needed?
Wash the floor first, then use a soft buffing pad and some floor wax.
Q:I want to install hardwood in all my house, except bathrooms.I currently have ceramic tile flooring. I know removing it and installing solid hardwood will be expensive. Can I install floaring hardwood over the ceramic tile?? I went to Lowe‘s, and the flooring assistant recommended me to to that. With the correct underlayment should be not trouble at all.Have you install it that way?? WHAT IS YOUR PERSONAL EXPERIENCE??
I have installed floating hardwood and laminate over ceramic tile. It can be successfully done. Most floating hardwoods require a foam padding beneath them and are glued together. In your case I would also suggest the use of a 6 mil plastic sheeting to serve as a moisture barrier. There are a lot of issues with floating hardwood floor. It is fairly new and the results so far are not too good. It tends to be noisy, separate, and cup. It is also difficult to install any boards that are not perfectly straight, which is most of them. I would not recommend any Bruce floating hardwood, such as sold at Lowe's. If you cannot remove the tile, a quality laminate would in this case be a better choice than hardwood.
Q:i was pouring grout on my tile floor and it dryed too fast. how can i get rid of it?
Moisten the joints between the tiles with a little bit of water. This makes the grout naturally flow into the crevices and away from the face of your tile. Work in small sections, cleaning the surface of the tile as you go. The longer you wait, the more the grout will set and the harder it will be to remove. Clean the tiles with a damp sponge. After you apply the grout to the joints of the tiles, use a damp sponge to wipe the surface of each tile clean. You may want to go over it a few times to make sure that no excess grout remains. Sweep all the grout to one area, and then wipe it with a rag if necessary. Find a pH balanced cleanser. If grout or residue still remains on the tile, use a gentle cleaner to scrub the surface. If you left the grout on too long and it cured on the tile, you may need an acid-based solution.
Q:Why the tile is not clean clean
Should be a chemical reaction, different reactions different methods, the most important reason for the quality of the tile, the surface is not well handled.
Q:If i have 56 tiles in my bathroom that are 8x8 how many would i need at 13x13
22 tiles at a bare minimum. 8x8=64 s/inches 56x64=3584 total s/inches in the room 13x13=169 s/inches 3584 divided by 169 is 21.2 or 22 tiles. 4/5 pc for scrap so 26/27 total pcs. Any questions you can e mail me through my avatar and check my qualifications there. GL
Q:Steno Tiles how Steno is a few lines of brand
You have not provided the brand we have not tested, to provide you with the choice of tiles under the method, I hope to help you. Method one: the same paragraph of the two tiles on the face of the table, his hands pinching side, observe the other side of the tilt, tilt the smaller, the higher the flatness. (This method is suitable for fully flattened bricks that do not apply to antique tiles and bricks with special craftsmanship) Method 2: a brick vertical placed on the same piece of another flat brick surface, observe the gap between the two bricks, less light, the higher the flatness, the better the quality, in my tested tiles , Nobel's tile flatness is the best, almost no light, we can test their own time to try all four. (This method does not apply to antique tiles)
