Q:we layed tile after hurricane katrina whats the protocal about if you should tile the whole house with the same color tile my 10 yr old wants different tile then we layed in the bedroom. Does this effect the value of your home or does it matter?
If your tiling just the common areas and they are continuous to each other ie : Kitchen, hall, foyer, mudroom etc. I find most people are keeping the continuity as it increases the overall appearance of the area being tiled.(No start and stop,no transitions etc) However, changing pace in the baths and being creative is most usually reccomended. Glad to see you fighting back from Katrina.. Best of luck to you... bellzie
Q:I am going to move into a home that has ugly green and yellowish tile all over the kitchen!! The walls and sink are green, the counters are a wood laminate, the floor is an old beige vinyl, and the cabinets are a dark color and are old and dated. What can i do to make this kitchen much nicer on a really tight budget?! Help!!
You okorder / and in the search bar (make sure you check site instead of recipe) type in 4 Wall Projects with Glaze it is the 3rd project called Tile Turnaround and gives step by step instructions. Good Luck!
Q:The 12 by 12 tiles were laid 7 years ago and nothing is different, but last October some of them over by the exterior wall of the house started tenting. There had been no more or less rain. What would make them do this? Here‘s some more info:-They started cracking in the part of the house that was added on.-The new foundation may not have been sealed.-My brother put them down and he tends to do a crappy job at best. He thinks they were cheap tiles.-I found traces of termites when I started pulling them up (seems unrelated since they‘re ceramic tiles, but one never knows...)Any advice on replacing them would be greatly appreciated!
could be your floor is not level you can test it yourself just get a leveler and test the areas that are cracking. The only other thing I can think of is the termites ate a hole and there is too much moister coming into the house and causing the tiles to crack. I doubt its because of the tiles or the job otherwise something would have happened sooner. But get someone out there to check for termites hope that helps good luck.
Q:anyone know this kind of tile? How durable is it? is it suitable for wall or floor?
If its the honey or green onyx in the lower pictures, to answer your question, it is for wall application only, not durable enough for flooring. Expensive but can be used with other tile if you d like to make stripes and small designs. Any questions you can e mail me through my avatar and check my qualifications there. GL
Q:What‘s the difference between tile mastic tile adhesive? I was told to paint the wall w/paint primer first then use tile adhesive rather than tile mastic to apply tiles on damaged green board around my jaccuzzi tub for a quick fix. The green paper peeled off when removing the old tile exposing the brown cardboard stuff.
Mastic is a glue, an adhesive. It is used for wall tile, but not in a shower. Thinset is a portland cement based product that is used on floor tile and for any large wall tile application or if a wall tile is going to be used in a high water area like a shower. I answered your second question on your other post.
Q:I want to install vinyl over a tile floor. What procedures should I take? What adhesive? What prep on the ceramic?
Removing the tile is the best way but to answer your ? you ll have to make sure tile is down tight and no loose grout.. An indication tile is loose.. If all s tight 1st clean and strip tile of all grease and sealers etc.. Now you ll have to flat trowel on an embossing leveler to get rid of all the grout line seams so it won t telescope and show thru.. And it still may so thats a chance you take.. Use the glue that is recommended from the manufacture of the type of vinyl you get.. GL
Q:I used acetone on my tile to get up some hair dye and it stained the tile white where the acetone was. i know now that i probably shouldn‘t have done this so please just answer question. How do i fix it?
Without knowing what kind of tile you're talking about, it's hard to give an accurate answer. Because your tile was blemished by the acetone, I assume it is a matte finish tile, which will absorb moisture. You will probably have to replace the tile. First, go to a tile or flooring store, explain what you did and what happened and see what they recommend. As for fixing the tile, if you haven't removed old grout, fractured and removed a tile, cleaned out old thinset, laid new thinset, the tile, and grouted, I suggest you leave this to a professional.
Q:I almost bought porcelin tile but I know ceramic tile is much more popular, what about the endurance factor between the two? I want to get something that will last and still look good.Does anyone know about flooring, and could tell me which is best?
Ceramic tile is more popular simply because it is less expensive and easier to cut and work with. But if you want the look, porcelain is the way to go. Italian porcelain tile is by far the best on the market. Keep in mind that whether it be ceramic or porcelain tile, if you drop something on it that's heavy or hard, both may crack or chip... As for the lasting effect, I prefer ceramic tile on the floor and porcelain tile on walls. Just remember that you can NEVER put wall tile on the floor as it will ALWAYS crack because it isn't strong enough. There are grades to look for : 1 and 2 are wall tiles and 3 to 5 (though I prefer 4 to 5) are floor tiles. Enjoy your new flooring!
Q:My marble counter top is made of tiles. We bought the house and the previous owners installed them. my problem is that the grouts between are chipped and stained. how can i repair them to look new again?
you need to remove the old grout on the surface and re apply new grout to fix the problem, you can even get grout that is tinted to the colour that you like .
Q:It has been installed on a concrete slab for about five months now, could the slab not have cured right or is the tile layed wrong?
the tile layed wrong or the slap is moving take one of the cracked tiles up and clean under to see if there is a crack in the slab if there is you need a membrane to put over the crack and then the new tiles good luck
