- If you put pasta sauce on the bottom and add some grated mozzarella or parmiggiano grated cheese on top and cover with aluminum foil and cook in the oven the shells will still cook since the vapor will from the aluminum foil will keep them moist so just add about 1/4 cup of water to the bottom of the pan with the sauce if you really don't want to put sauce on top of the shells so that the sauce on the bottom doesn't dry out! hope this helps!
