Yes, remove the p-trap. Maybe it is enough to clean the pop-up with tweezers. If your sink has a pop-up replace it with a strainer then you will nomore have a clogged sink. I replaced all my pop-ups with strainers.

Q:My only bathroom has a very old, cheap sink.It feels like hard plastic? Made to appear like yellow/tan marble.It has scratches all over it that ruin the appearance.Is there any type of paint that I could use to refresh/renew it temporarily?Of course, it will have to be paint that stands up to water...TY!

There is no paint that I know of that will stand up to the use a vanity sink gets. Rather than trying to patch the old sink, I recommend you get a new one. The old faucet and drain should fit into the new one if you match the number of faucet holes in the sink and the drain size. If you're unfamiliar with replacing a vanity sink, get someone to help you or contract it out to a professional.

Q:My husband recently fixed a leak in the bathroom tub (sealed something) and obviously had to turn the water off while working on this. Since then the hot water in the bathroom sink does not work when we turn the faucet on (the cold water faucet does work and come out fine). Also not the kitchen sink has a delay when turning it off (water comes out about 5 seconds after turning off) Any ideas why this may be occurring?

He might not have completely turned the hot water valve back on at the water heater ( or if there is a cold feed that one has to be full open too. I doubt this is the problem though. I think somewhere in the process of fixing the problem small bits of rubber and crap in the pipes was pushed forward when he turned the water back on and got stuck in the hot water cartridge in the faucet. Have him shut the water off under the sink , remove the cartridge ( or stem) and put a rag over the hot water opening then turn the valve under the sink back on for a few seconds to blast out whatever is in the pipe. Then he can try to clean the cartridge out or evaluate the condition of the washer on the stem if it isn't a cartridge. Assuming the water came out full force when the cartridge/stem was removed it is resolved by cleaning or replacing. If no water came out, it is time to work your way back down the plumbing system to see that everything is turned on. Once you have eliminated everything you can, it will then make sense to call a plumber if the hot water still doesn't work.

HEY YOU PEOPLE BE NICE. THIS IS A GENUINE QUESTION. THERE WAS THIS CHINESE PLACE IN TOWN. IT WAS SHUT DOWN BY HEALTH DEPT. THE WORKER WOULD BE HOT AND SWEATY AND WASH THEIR HAIR IN KITCHEN SINK BY FOOD, OR JUST COOL OFF HEAD UNDER SINK NEAR FOOD. THEY WOULD PUT THEIR FEET UNDER THE WATER FAUCET IN KITCHEN TO COOL THEM DOWN. THEY DID THIS WITHOUT BOTHERING TO CLOSE THE KITCHEN DOORS. HAPPENED ONE TO MANY TIMES AND THE HEALTH DEPARTMENT SHUT THEM DOWN. SO MAYBE NOT A BATHROOM SINK BUT A KITCHEN SINK IN A RESTAURANT.

Q:Is it useful to use glass gluing

it works. I also encountered such a situation, the water heater stainless steel pipe completely cracked, leaking. After the use of glass glue to seal the gap, the use of no problem. But, have prepared a good water, once the problem can immediately replace the new, so make the best use.

Q:My bathroom sink seems to smell regardless of what you dump down it. The bath drain is fine along with all the rest of the drains in the house besides the bathroom sink drain... What should be done to make the smell go away for good?(while being cost effective as I am renting an apartment?)... Should I just have a plumber try something or ? Thanks for your detailed answer... Install the stopper in the sink. Add one cup of bleach to the sink. Run water, slowly to prevent splashing, and allow the water to run into the overflow hole of the sink. Keep running the water until the bleach smell is gone. Before doing this, make sure your sink has an overflow hole, as some of the newer sinks do not. Many times, the smell is caused by mold or other bacteria in between the sink body. This is where the bleach water will go, and then through the drain piping. It will take care of either odor problem.

It is clogged & needs to be snaked out. Call your landlord about this. Let them know that you wanted to call them before using any caustic chemicals, like Drano & such. A snake will be best because it will remove the clog, rather than flush it onto another area. You rent, so you do not have to pay for this!!!! Or your landlord might ask you to pay the plumber & give them the receipt with this deducted from the rent check, which is also fine.
