Q:I bought a bathroom fan timer and tried to install it. It has four wires and the wall switch circuit has only 3 wires. What do I do?

What are the colors of the old wires and what colors are connected where? New switch black to old switch black. New switch red to old switch white. New switch white to through going whites, (should be two twist locked together). New switch green to screw on existing metal box or leave disconnected.

Q:I have two white wires left...one is a speaker wire and the other is the constant 12v wire and I don't know which is which. They are the same thickness so unless one of you guys know I'm pretty much screwed here. Also, I have a black ground wire sticking out of the wiring harness and the ground wire from my stereo harness doesn't look like they should attach to each other. This is my first install and I've got everything else hooked up. Just need some pointers.

Q:how do i tap a speaker wire? car audio not really my department

Just buy a wire stripper, strip the wire and connect the new wire. Remember to wrap electrical tape around it and you're done. You can also buy wire taps but they sometimes don't work due to a bad connection. Stripping the wire is the best solution.

Q:My house is wired for surround sound. The wires coming out of the speakers holes are not labeled as far as i can tell but the wires that are coming out of housing that go into the back of the receiver are labeled 26,27,30,and 31. I cant tell which wires go to which speaker Front Left, Front Right, Rear left or Rear Right. Do these numbers mean anything?

Easy fix: Wire and mount all the speakers, without the grill if possible. The grill will be added later. Get an old 9v battery. Grab the first wire, like 26 for example and strip the wires back about 1/4 inch. and twist each wire. With a helper in the center of the room, tap the wire ends intermittently to the battery. DO NOT KEEP THE BATTERY WIRED TO THE SPEAKER FOR MORE THAN SHORT PERIODS OF TIME. 1-2 SECONDS ONLY. Have the helper tell which speaker is making noise. Have them move to that speaker and take note if the woofer is moving IN or OUT when making sound. If the woofer is moving OUT, take note which wire is touching the POSITIVE post of the battery and wire the speaker to the corresponding output on the receiver. If the woofer is moving IN during sound, switch the wires on the battery and mark the positive. The receiver should remain OFF during setup. Repeat these steps for all the speakers and mark the cables with speaker locations AND positive / negative I.D. with a small piece of tape for future reference. Replace the grills and power up the receiver to set the sound levels. Good luck.

Q:instead of using the wire its self could you put a terminal at the end of your audio wire and connect it to the amp, for your car audio. Because I just ordered 1/0 awg wire, but I don't think the wire will fit on the amp, so could I put a Y terminal at the end of my 1/0 gauge wire and connect that to my amp?

Depends okorder ... Another option would be a distribution block that allows a 0-gauge input and 4-gauge outputs. You could use this to reduce the wire size before the amplifier connection.

Q:Broken dryer, 4 bladed wire, Old dryer available to me, has a 3 wire cord, can I swap the cords?

Yes, download the owners manual, it will tell you how to the unground neutral, and use 4 wire cord, but generally you will just need to disconnect a jumper that connects the center terminal to ground, then connect the ground wire to the frame. Post the model number if you need help finding it. I am a little confused, it seems your first and second question are opposite, but doesn't matter, all dryers in North America can work with either type. The code says you have to use the 4 wire receptacle unless you only have three wires in the junction box. NEC 250.140 Frames of Ranges and Clothes Dryers Frames of electric ranges... shall be connected to the equipment grounding conductor... Exception: for existing branch-circuit installation only where an equipment grounding conductor is not present in the outlet or junction box, the frames of electric ranges...clothes dryers, and outlet or junction boxes that are part of the circuit for these appliances shall be permitted to be connected to the grounded circuit conductor... The Equipment grounding conductor is the green wire. The grounded circuit conductor is the white/neutral wire.

Q:Ok so I bought a blower and barrow at the junk store... Figured I could use a v-belt to drive it with this old motor I have... Homemade dust collector!!! Anyhow I have no Idea how to wire it up... I know it probably needs a capacitor but thats about it... It's an Emerson... Has orange, blue, brown, white, and black. Any Ideas would be great! On the sticker it list three different speeds (rpms) So i'm guessing I don't need all the wires and some are just quot;taps.quot;
