Q: We‘re putting in new porcelain tile floors in the kitchen and bathroom. Should the tile go under the refrigerator? Should tiles go in before or after the new vanities in the bathroom? Any other general tips for a first-time tiler?
Like most all other said, tile under the fridge , waiting a few extra days before replacing such a heavy item..The bath vanity can go either way but if its down after , it s a much cleaner look to have it set atop the tile. Plus you don t have to have grout up to and have it cracking where it meets the vanity ( it will)...Now one thing I can t pass up.. Porcelain IS NOT a natural product . It DOESN t need to be sealed prior to or after. This is a man made product , fired just like ceramic but a much better quality most often.. Seal grout after the proper time after grouting with a penetrating sealer.. Any flooring question ( especially tile) e amil me through my avatar and check my qualifications there
Q: I have ceramic tile throughout home and in kitchen around one tile the grout or whatever the stuff is between the tile has crumbled and is getting bigger. Can i seal it myself, with what? or do i need to hire a stud to fix it?
You can go to the hardware store to get a kit to fix it but, if the cracks are growing or continueing further to other tiles you might have a problem with the underlayment. Fix the area now with a kit and keep a close eye on it. If the cracks come back and or start to show in other places don't waste your time with patching. The underlayment is very critical for tile, it must be flat and secured very well. If not you can get flexing in the floor from movement which will cause cracks.
Q: Gold tiles and gold medals in Asia which is good
7, if it is to buy tiles (wall), then look at the brick body side of the body and glaze between the glaze to see the thickness, too thin can not be, because a long time there will be broken or will There is seepage. Look at the surface of the tiles glaze is bright, glaze light good quality. The above methods 1,2,3 points are common to all bricks, and 4,5,6,7 is a method for different products. The last to add a few pieces of brick weight is a method, the more dense the higher the relative, but this is not useful for all the bricks, for example, now like God God Connaught and several other big brands have a called "light brick "The product, the weight is very light but the quality is also good. So the weight of the contrast can only be used on traditional tile products. If the conditions permit, then the cup of water poured on the back of the brick body to see the water absorption of the brick speed, the faster the harder the brick, the more difficult to prove that the better brick, which is commonly referred to as the ceramic tile water absorption, the general international standards In the following 0.4%, that is, pour 100 grams of water brick will only absorb 0.4 grams, to achieve this standard brick is basically a good brick.
Q: tile. any advice?
A good quality floor tile will be fine, provided they are well supported underneath with no air gapes.
Q: I have strip kitchen floor to sub floor. i am ready to install tiles. My question is: How to do the wet bed for laying ties later on.
I m assuming yo mean a mortar bed or a mud bed for tiles. You don t want to do this for later on as you say. You want to lay tiles soon after it s set so you don t ruin the mortar bed by walking on it. This isnt something you usually just do , it takes practice and a bit of experience and is hard work but worth it when done right. A wet bed is a base of cement that the tiles are installed as you go. Old fashion method rarely used anymore. Now a mud bed is used and then a thin set is used to adhere the tile down. If you want to do a mud bed e mail me through my avatar and I ll guide you through it. GL
Q: I have plain jane 4 white ceramic tile and it does not go with my new room colors for my bath....can this be painted?
Any ceramic tile can be painted no matter if it is old or new. The most important thing is to make sure the tile is perfectly clean. Repair any cracked tiles and crumbling grout. If you need to regrout, do so before painting the tile. Regrouting will damage the paint. Water-based paints that contain a urethane resin are good paints to use. Do not apply it to ceramic tile that gets wet on a regular basis. Examples of this are tile surfaces inside a tub or shower area. You can use a roller to paint a ceramic-tile floor. I suggest a roller with a low nap to keep bubbles and texture to a minimum. You can also add products to the paint that allow them to flow well and attain a finish as if they had been sprayed. If you have a sprayer, you absolutely can spray the tile. Be sure to protect adjacent surfaces from overspray.
Q: I have 12x12 tiles in my kitchen on the floor and about 5 of them are cracked/damaged. How hard is it to replace them, can I do it myslef or hire a professional? What materials will be needed?
It's not difficult but it takes some strength and patience. You'll have to break off the damaged tiles and chip the mortar (cement like stuff) until it is flat and even. You can use a chisel for this since it's a small surface. Take out the grout around the tile as well. Then you'll need some mortar, the replacement tile, and grout (color need to match existing grout). Place the prepared mortar on the square using a trowel and lay the tile on it - make sure the tile is even with the existing flooring. If it sinks too low, add mortar, if it pops up too high, take out excess mortar. Then wait 24 hours and then apply the prepared grout over the tile using a rubber float. Scrub clean with wet sponge - might take several times to get the grout film off the tile surface. Wait another 24 hours for the grout to set before walking on it. All done.
Q: is it fine to set ceramic tiles over existing vinyl flooring?would it be better to use mastic or mortar?how to prepare such a surface?tia
No,you cant do that .Vinyl must br removed first, you cant tile over hard wood floor either. If removing the vinyl is too difficult, you can just leave it down and use cement boards over it.You can get them at any home improvement stores, they come in 4x5 sheets, and are screwed with dry wall screws into the wood floor. They are designed for that purpose, and pretty easy to work with, and cut,as you only need to score it with a utility knife and bend to brake,.
Q: My house decoration, the decoration division to pay in the cut tiles, the whole piece of tiles cut on both sides, the rest of the total when the waste thrown. He said it was not straight. Do not you know that you have encountered such a situation? Did he make sense? Is there any way to prove that his operation is in question? Thank you al
in fact, the general brick is no problem, I guess or the master Technical problems, looking for businesses to, in fact, let the business to illustrate the problem, but also to avoid the contradiction between you and the master out.
Q: I found answers about laying tile and a backer board over linoleum I didn‘t know if they would be the same. What would cause tile to crack if it‘s places directly on concrete?
remove the vinyl tiles. There are great products that will help with loosening the tiles. should you decide to not remove the tiles this is what could happen. the tiles will move under the ceramic floor and cause cracks in the tiles. replacing the grout is easy not the tiles. if you start with a sound floor then you will have a ceramic floor that will last you for a good long time.
