Q:How do you keep your tile floors clean?
For my tile it depends on what color tile you have. I got white tile in my kitchen and i used a little bit of Pinesol mixed with hot water it cleans it good actually you can use that for all tile just a little big but make sure its dried. never used clorax unless you have just plain white tile. uses a little of that. steam mop is good but i use also the shark steam mop it also does the trick it is a faster way to get the job done you can buy that in bed bath beyond or Walmart.
Q:What can I expect behind the tiles?
If the tiles go all the way around the room, measure up 4' at each corner. Use a chalk line or level to make a horizontal line around the room. All hardware below this line should be removed. Towel bars, heat register covers, cabinets, toilet, door trim, etc. If the wall is drywall, you could cut along this line with a drywall hand saw. If you have access to a sawzall (reciprocating saw), the process will go quick. (If you're handy, you should have this tool). To avoid cutting wires, pipes, pay close attention when cutting. Lay tool against wall in line with chalk line. Start blade, slowly, then lower blade to line. Now tilt blade inward. CAUTION. Go only as deep as needed to penetrate wall. If you go deeper, you risk cutting wires or plumbing. Now pull saw along line around perimiter of room. Safety glasses are recommended during cuttiing and removal. Use hammer to make hole in wall just below cut line. Using Gloves, pull sections of drywall and tile by hand as much as possible. If screws remain in the studs hit with a hammer at a 45% angle. they should break off. If it's nails, you should pull them. Floor tiles will come up with a flat pry bar and a hammer. Just pick a spot along an edge. Use a couple sharp blows with hammer to start, then use flat bar and hammer to peel out floor tile and grout. Hope this motivates you to go for it.
Q:Is there asbestos in tile?
If it is confirmed that your bathroom floor tile have a asbestos, try to consider this precautions. If you are removing asbestos floor tiles yourself, try to minimize the risk of asbestos fibers getting into the air. Never sand asbestos floor tiles or the glue under it. And don't use any power tool that could damage the tiles. Before removing the tiles, soak the entire floor with plenty water for at least 30 minutes. If some fibers get free, they will be too heavy to float if they are water-soaked, If there is dust while removing the tiles, never use a vacuum cleaner. They will not trap asbestos fibers and reintroduce them into the air. All cleaning should be done with a soaking wet mop. All materials used for cleaning should be transferred immediately to polythene bags and tightly sealed for disposal. Do label these polythene bags appropriately, it is always better and safer to rely on professionals when it comes to getting your asbestos flooring changed. They know exactly how the flooring was put, and how best to remove it. They will ensure that no / minimum asbestos fibers get into the air while changing the flooring. Also disposing and getting rid of the asbestos tiles as per your state rules will be taken care of by them.
Q:are there tiles in your house that are unlevel?
Having the tiles uneven on a new installation is not right. Couple reasons to cause this and should have been caught by the installer. They are more than likely not loose but since they are uneven, your more than likely to chip the edges over time. Get the installer back and have it fixed. Tile should be perfectly flat. Any questions you can e mail me through my avatar and check my qualifications there. GL
Q:cheap way to redo a tiled bathroom?
Wow, I was expecting to see some gaudy awful tile. This tile looks brand new and is in great shape. Not only that, it really is not some horrible, obnoxious color, either. Because this is in a shower, there is nothing you can do that will be on the cheap because it does have to be water proof to avoid mold and mildew problems. If there is a paint to go over tile in a shower, I am unaware of such a product. It is never cheap to take down and replace this amount of tile. Just get a cool shower curtain and that will take care of that. Or, just do what I would do, embrace it and find some funky and fun way to incorporate the green and yellow into your color scheme. That tile really is not all that bad, considering what I have seen in my day. Blue goes well with yellow and green and so does red. Go shop for some shower curtains and you will be sure to find something you can live with. Good luck, and like I said, there are far worse tiles and colors you could have been stuck with.
Q:how do you cut a circle on Porcelain tiles? help please.?
Maybe take them back to where you bought they along with the medallion and see if they will do them for you. NOt an easy job!
Q:why are school ceilings mde of the tile?
I'm a construction manager who has built a lot of schools. There are several reasons. First is that there are all kinds of wiring and piping and ductwork systems up in the ceilings above your head. In order to hide them, dropped ceiling frames are installed with removable tiles so that the maintenance people can get up there to service the systems. Second, the tiles are acoustic absorbing material to reduce echoing and keep the room more quiet. Third is for temperature regulation, insulating the space and reducing the height of the room to make it easier to cool it or warm it. And of course, there is the extra bonus that you can get a pencil or a spoonful of canned peas to stick to it so it falls on somebody later on (I may be an adult, but I remember being a schoolkid).
Q:When did the tiles begin?
Tiles as home decoration works in the very popular decorative materials, learn to appreciate the tiles, to understand the history of tile development, will determine the style of help. The birth of the tiles The use of tiles has a long history, it first appeared in the ancient Egyptian pyramid of the room, and a long time ago began to contact with the bath. In the Islamic state, the tiles are painted with flowers and plant patterns. In the medieval England, people will be different colors of geometric brick shop in the church and the monastery on the floor. The development of tiles Tiles birthplace in Europe, especially worth mentioning is Italy, Spain and Germany. Into the 21st century, tiles from the material, shape, color, surface processing start to the high-end development. In the field of tile technology inside, the Germans always walk in the forefront. Germany, for example, is the first and only country in the world to realize the industrial production of monochromatic vitrified tiles.
Q:Can I lay linoleum over asbestos tile in the basement?
yes, but, if theres already some of the old tile coming up, may be a goo idea to take all of it up. if it is only a couple of pieces just pull them and fill in with leveling compound
Q:What are the advantages/disadvantages of porcelain tiles?
Ceramic tile will show chips more than porcelain. Porcelain tile is the same throughout. Also it is good for exterior areas as it is frost proof. porcelain tile is generally harder than ceramic and may be harder to cut.
