Q:In tiling a small square area in front of my entrance, where do I lay the first tile: middle or a corner?
Start in the middle. That's where the eye naturally strays. The edges, or corners will blend in. Yes, you may have to trim the pieces on the edges, but, it will be balanced from the center out. Good Luck!
Q:Question about granite tiles...?
Tile is thinner than granite counter top,so it can be much less expensive, but it looks good. I would not put it on the floor. A little lipstick on your lips creates an illusion, putting it on your cheeks also, makes you a clown. You want to impress with the granite, so use something else matching ton the floor.
Q:can you tile over painted brick?
Without seeing the wall it's difficult to say. With an uneven surface like brick it would probably take too much thinset to be stable. To do properly, the bricks either need to be removed, or covered over. You could apply concrete to the wall, but that would be hard to finish smoothly if you're not a pro. You could erect a wall out of wood as a facing and tile over that. If you put up a wall it needs to be substantial to support the weight of the tile.
Q:How long are ordinary white strip tiles?
General use of external walls, specifications 5CMx25CM
Q:CAN I TILE OVER FLOORBOARDS please advise how?
You can, but it's a gutsy try. Hardwood flexes, expands and contracts with temp. humidity and wear. Those are things you DONT want when setting tile. If you really really want to try this without removing the hardwood, it will take some money and time. First like others above mentioned, find a cement backer. Hardibacker and Durarock are brands sold at Home Depot. I would recommend getting the thicker 1/2 sheets as that will help dampen the flex. Then you will want an anti-fracture membrane to coat the backer with. This stuff helps allow the floor to move (slightly of course) without cracking your grout and popping tiles. Next buy a heavily latex modified mortar. It usually has a higher psi strength and also allows for some give. It's more expensive, but it's cheaper than doing the job twice. I'm personally a fan of TEC's SuperFlex mortar, but every tile guy has their favorite. When you go to actually install the tile (after the backer is in and the membrane is dry) use a deep trowel. In these situations, I use a 1/2 trowel. Spread the mortar evenly, and place each tile with the same amount of pressure. This will save time trying to keep the tiles level. When grouting also find a latex modified mix for it as well. Use that stuff instead of water. Hope this helps and you actually read the whole thing. I didn't mean to write a book.
Q:Stains on white tile?
There are lots of experts out there who do some cleaning and polishing stuffs on tiles cos theres a possibilty that thing could go worse if you try it by yourself. why can't you just give it a try...
Q:best method to clean tiles...?
If you are talking about the bathroom tile around a shower you will need a lime remover it will clean the soap scum and water deposits. The floor tiles just need a general cleaner. If you want to clean tiles in a kitchen use a de greaser.
Q:glazed or polished tile?
A high sheen tile is going to give you a more formal look. A matte finish will be more casual. If you place the tiles on a 45 degree angle, the space will appear larger, but it will require more cuts and a little more tile. If you use 18 tiles and keep them squared with the room shape, the room will appear smaller. I am not a fan of big grout lines unless you are using Saltillo (Mexican) tiles. If you have the option of coloring the grout I would try to match the tile as closely as possible, unless you want to call attention to the grout.
Q:What kind of ceramic tile?
Features: This is a kind of high temperature firing ceramic tile, is the hardest of all the tiles. Sometimes polished tiles are scratched when the tiles are still safe and sound. Mosaic: Mosaic is a special way of the existence of brick, it is generally composed of dozens of small pieces of brick to form a relatively large brick. Acid, alkali, wear, no water, strong pressure, not broken. Categories It is mainly divided into ceramic mosaic, marble mosaic, glass mosaic. Scope It is small and colorful, colorful is widely used in indoor small area, wall and outdoor walls and the ground. Features Specifications, thin and small, hard texture, acid, alkali, wear, no water, strong pressure, not broken, colorful and versatile.
Q:On Hockey-shot's Dry land Flooring Tiles..........?
I think I understand your question, the tiles you can't skate on unless you have roller hockey skates, it's called sport court. I play roller hockey and ice and the tiles for roller SUCK! If I were you I'd just go fin a certain kind of paint I can't recall the name of the brand, but paint the garrage floor with it and you can skate in there and stick handle if you have enough room. Hope this helps
