Q:adhesive tiles, peel stick tiles
no, i never do it
Q:self stick floor tile, vapor barrier
I just replaced the bulk of my mobile home flooring with 12x12 self stick tile from Fred's.... 1. Take off the old flooring (Carpet or tile.) and get it back to bare wood (Plywood)..... 2. Repair any bad sections of old plywood... 3. Level any joints between patches and any nail heads (I use drywall screws...A lot better hold and faster to put in when using a drill.)... Also the best patching material is Bondo...The wood filler takes forever to dry and will not form a Strong surface...Bondo drys to HARD plastic within 15 minutes...And is very easy to sand or form with a Bondo file... Be sure that everything is smooth or any hail heads or depressions will show under the tile later on... (Bondo also hold up better in wet areas like the bathroom) Pop a chalk line down the center of the room and start putting the tile down from this center line...Its not as noticeable to have something slightly off along the wall line as it it in the center of the room...Also when you get to the walls or in those little tight areas you will want to measure and cut some of the tiles....To do this you need to measure where the tile is to be cut (Remember the arrow direction) then lay the tile over an old piece of tile (So you dont cut the good flooring) and using a steel straight edge and a knife scribe a line...Then bend the tile along the line and it will break cleanly along the line.. Pay attention to the arrows on the back of the tile and always point them toward the same direction... This makes the pattern come out right... The glue on the tiles will hold them in place if the floor surface is clean and dry... If the energy blanket under the home is gone it will still take YEARS to do any damage to the new plywood floor that you replaced...
Q:how to tile vanity top and back splash?
Yes, You should use a backer board or cement board. It makes the best base so your tiles will not pop loose. When cutting backer board wear a dust mask as it is hazardous to your lungs, but use the backer board if you want the job done right. Be sure to fill in any seams with grout where you may have had to piece your board before tiling too.
Q:Ok we are remodeling our kitchen and have the area between the counter tops and the bottom of the upper cabinets that is currently some ugly green tiles. Very small ones at that. We do not want the hassle to remove these and try to replace with something more attractive. We are looking for solutions to just cover the tiles with something d-i-y and not too expensive. I have seen a lot of peel and stick stuff but don't know if it can be used on tiles. Please give suggestions!
In the end, you will not be happy with anything less than removing the tiles, repairing the wall, and installing a tile back splash you like. Anything else would not be appealing, nor would it last. This could easily be a weekend project and is well worth the effort, if not just for the resale value.
Q:How can i get hair dye stains off tiled flooring?
You may not. Talked to hair dresser last week about that and she said they have to keep a coating over their floors....not ceramic but vinyl, else wise the stains penetrate and won't come out. If the stain is in the grout or a non smooth tile, unless they had been recently sealed, it has probably penetrated. Try bleach, if that doesn't work, clean up and try hydrogen peroxide with a few drops of ammonia..........NO BLEACH RESIDUE or else you'll gas yourself with chlorine gas. Hydrogen peroxide and ammonia was what was used to bleach hair before advent of commercial lighteners.
Q:I have three ceramic tiles that need a special curved cut. I‘m just looking for some place where I can take the tiles in and they cut them for me onsite and I walk out with my cut tiles. Home Depot doesn‘t offer this service. Who does? I live in Atlanta.
Try your local flooring stores. The store I work in cuts tile so I would assume most flooring stores could.
Q:My kitchen is 15x11 and I am buying 18x18 tiles I need to know how many to buy.
Rob S has the only correct answer. My only additional comment is that you should allow for more waste. I would order 90 tiles.
Q:The previous owner placed VCT tiles on beautiful hardwood floors. I want to remove them, without messing up the wood too bad, since I want to sand and wax the floors after I remove them.Is there a way to do this without ruining the floors? Can I rent a machine? Should I try to heat up the tiles? They are glued on very well, and its a large area. The machines I have seen so far, look like they are made to remove tiles that are placed on concrete. Thanks in advanced
Try a product like Goof Off first. They sellit at Home Depot or Lowes. It cost about $4.00 for a 16 oz can. Wipe on liberally with a cloth and wait a few minutes and scrub off with same cloth. It does have a somewhat harsh smell at first, so make sure adequate ventilation is available especially for a child. I am a contractor and have used this on several types of floor adhesives, but of coarse there are some that will need to be sanded.
Q:hi we have old carpet on top of tiled floor in our dining room the carpet really needs replacing but I have no idea how to fix the grippers down onto the tilesany ideas how I can do this without pulling up the tiles?
The tack strip or grippers as you cal them can be laid over the tile just as you do on a cement or slab flooring with one exception. The use or a cement tack strip and some have to be pre drilled and a longer nail or screw used to attach them to a wood sub floor if your tile is over wood subflooring and a backer board over the sub floor . My guys used to also construction adhesive glue the tack strip along with longer nails or screw. Any questions you can e mail e through my avatar. GL
