Q:installing hexagonal tile?
you can use commercial spacers or a coin of the correct thickness would also work.
Q:Tile for bathroom floor?
I agree with answer 1 in that a concrete backer board would be OK. Brand/Trade name is your choice. To more directly answer your Q however...YES After installing multiple thousands of sq. ft. of tile, some in my own home, Plywood; if stable; will hold mortar. The issue is in the fact that backer board is more textured, with minor holes/pits/ voids; allowing the mortar more GRIP area. The cutting and installation of backer board are not extremely labor intensive, and even 1/4 inch; well secured will benefit you. In my jobs experience I most often remove any cove base to replace after the fact. The backer board/mortar and tile, will lessen the floor to ceiling height by approx. 3/4 inch. Steven Wolf Above I mentioned Stable certainly the sub/substrate (PLY) should be stable before installing backer board.
Q:ive installed ceramic tile in my bathroom about 18 months ago. the tiles have begun to crack. why?
I would assume that you are talking about tiles on the floor ..that can be a number of things..#1 the floor has movement...should have 2 or more layers of structural plywood or similar product with joints overlapped...and be 1.25 thickness or more...#2 if you used adhesive (glue) is it for floor tiles and are they of the right size...most larger ties need a thinset type mortar...#3..are the tiles you used floor tiles...wall tiles should not be used on the floor...#4..if the adhesive does not support the entire tile any void could create a weak spot and direct pressure would crack the tile..#5.. the actual floor support may not be strong enough or the span too long thus you would get deflection (movement) if the floor moves or flexes your tiles will loosen or crack.
Q:Porcelain or Ceramic tiles?
They are both basically the same, my husband remodels and he has used both on many locations. It is all about your taste and finding something you like and can live with for a long time. As long as you seal it (as often as recomended) any tile will last a long time unless chipped or cracked. You'll probably get tired of it before you actually need to change it. They say porcelain is better for damp areas but we have used both in bathrooms with no problems so far. It's the grout that must be sealed and it's not that costly Lowe's and Home Depot can tell you the best sealant to use and you could do it yourself at a considerable cheaper price.
Q:Home building, how to buy tiles, to good quality and affordable
Vuitton Fort tile quality and cheap you can refer to
Q:Is there any kind of coating to change ceramic tile color?
You can paint it or change the tiles. I Cr 13;8a
Q:Glueing vinyl tiles to hardwod floor?
yes there is a glue that you can use for that go to home depot and ask someone there they can help.
Q:How to lay peel and stick tile?
Most tile packs give an area coverage guide ,this site will give you a visual instruction of how to lay etc hope it helps, also times the length by the width to get the area 28'6 You will only need a stanley knife and a straight edge to cut self adhesive tiles
Q:To install ceramic tile in my bathroom, do I NEED backerboard??
I would recommend using cement board in the shower (assuming you will be taking the green board out). You'll be using the 1/2 cement board for the walls. While you're at it, don't forget to install a moisture barrier, and be sure to seal the joints of the cement board with modified thinset and waterproofing membrane, and don't make the mistake of using mastic for setting tiles. If it's just around the bathroom walls and not in the shower, consider the size and weight of the tiles. If they are just your standard 4 1/4 tiles, just tile straight to the wall. Make sure the surface is prepped properly. Shoot me an email if you have any other questions.
Q:Is there a brand logo on the back of the tiles
This is not sure, and some brand tiles have, and some brand tiles are not.
