Q: I have a proj in tle class about solid wire joints and splices and i cant find a picture of 18 of the splices / joints we did at school we needed to like insulate the wires and twist em with each other help!: Electrical Splices And Joints Pictures

Q: Blue and white wires contain insulated strands and red wire has a bundle of non-insulated strands. How are the two types of wires (insulated and non-insulated strands) used in homes (i.e. what are they used for?).: that query is slightly large. It quite relies upon on what you're utilising the cord for. even if that is carrying electric powered contemporary, the insulation will prevent unintentional contact with the present, which could effect in damage to someone or unintentional contact with floor, that could want to effect in failure of the circuit. if you're doing something else, like making a bucket deal with out of cord or utilising it to tie something on your vehicle, the insulation would grant you with a better acceptable grip, which may be better secure in its own correct.

Q: Okay, I just started tearing into my partially finished basement of the home I bought last week. Some of the electrical wiring is interesting to say the least.I have a junction box in the basement. One wire connects directly to the panel, another out to an outlet, and the third goes up and out to half the house. All of this is 14/2 except the quot;thirdthat runs up and out. This is wired with 14/3 but the third wire isn't connected to anything. Should I be concerned considering every outlet in the house works?: Are you saying the 14/3 is being used as 14/2? Sometimes that is done because if at some later time you need the third line you have it. Or the electrician had extra wire and just used 14/3. 14/3 can be used for switched receptacle. a

Q: So, I purchased a motion sensor light switch to replace the regular switches at my new condo. I have the wires exposed and I've identified the hot wire. My only problem is the hot wire (from inside the wall) is a single thick copper prong, whereas the wire for the motion sensor is split into like 15 different small copper wires.... I don't think the thick, single wire from the wall will work with the twisting wire connectors I purchased.... Am I able to just put the wires together and duct tape them??: Well you could twist them together and electrical tape them. But I would recommend you go back to the store and get some butt splices and crimp them to hold one set of wire at each end. Its just safer that way.

Q: how do you connect two copper wires together: You could try solder. I usually just twist them together and then cover them with electrical tape, although, I guess that's not the proper way.

Q: Why are some wires (especially thin ones, like ones connecting a battery pack in a toy) made up of many wires instead of just being one solid piece of metal?: 1) it is more flexible than single wire of same resistance, that is you can bend it to more angle than it's counterpart single wire that would have same resistance. 2) AC current don't flow over whole cross section area of a wire but it flows more near/on outer surface of wire. So resistance is not a function(inversely proportional) of cross section area for AC current but surface area wich is more for for many wires cable than single wire cable for given weight of wire material and thus it will have lesser resistance. 3) it is more reliable, that is if one of many wire get beaked the wire will still work unlike single wire cable.

Q: Kind of a confusing question I guess. I want to cut a wire that contains 3 other wires and splice into them then reconnect them. is all I need relatively the same gauge wire or is it potentially different type like some sort of special speaker wire..?
