Q:Which is generally cheaper? Wood or tile floors?
Tiles are generally cheaper than wood. However, some tiles are more expensive and some wood floors are cheaper (like laminate). Tiles are also colder on feet than wood floors. So paying more for wood is worth it. Plus, wood floors provide elegance to any room, unlike tiles!
Q:Question about granite tiles...?
The okorder.com/
Q:How to convert tiles how much money a square meter?
800 * 800 tiles, one hundred dollars a piece, 0.64 square, 100 ÷ 0.64 = 156.25 a square. 156 dollars a square of floor tiles, 156.25 * 0.64 = 100 dollars a piece.
Q:Wood or Tile in my master bath?
Tile! It won't get water damage as easily. You can always put down a cute teak wood bath mat if you really like the look of wood in your house.
Q:installing cermic tile in shower?
this is a fairly easy job to undertake, although a little messy.Even a 1st timer can do this with a little patience, and care. 1st off you can use green board (sheetrock for wet areas) but it is not as waterproof as they say. Get some hardiboard instead. Once this is installed securely, Pop a good straight line with a bright chalk,I like red myself if using 4 tiles pop a line 4and 1/16 above the tub. (Make sure to keep starter row level ) Now your line is popped spread your glue or mastic, using a trowel with serrated edge to do so.Let the glue get tacky and then start installing your tiles (you may need spacers depending on the type tile you use. Most small tiles have a couple of slightly raised spots on each side for the space. Once all your tile is in place, let the tiles set for 24 hrs to fully cure. Now you are ready to grout ,being your 1st time I recommend premixed grout. Keep a wet sponge handy while applying grout. Make sure all joints are well filled, and sponge lightly afterward any excess so that it does not bond to tile facing. Let your grout set about 12 hrs then apply a good sealer to prevent water from penetrating grout and loosening it and your tiles, Grout is porous. Hope you understand what I am saying here, I am better at actually doing as to trying to explain
Q:Questions about tiles?
Should the grout come away it can damage underneath especially in shower areas. You should use green moisture resistant plasterboard but ideally cement board on top as it is waterproof and perfect for tiling. Grout will eventually become discoloured and fall away over time in wet areas. Using correct technique in applying adhesive ( notched trowel or plastic notched spreader ) evenly and working within you capability will give you a good result, many try to do too much in one go....which is Ok for the professional. This way the tile will not come away. When applying tile on adhesive try a slight twisting motion to firm the tile in place, by placing finger on the front of tile....Important allow tile adhesive to dry fully before applying grout it takes 12 hrs approx as manufacturers spec. If tile when tapping makes a different sound (kinda hollow sound) it is loose and will need to be removed. Scrap out old adhesive and redo. Tip: Buy sealer (spray for grout) in excessively wet areas as it will extend the grout life and very good for shower areas. You can but sealer applicators but slow....mask and vent out when using spray as not good to breathe in and smell at first....
Q:Measuring and cutting holes in ceramic floor tile?
I'll try to answer this in layman's terms as best i can.. Take one tile and hold it exactly square with the tile just above the faucet Knob. Take another tile and put the edge of it dead center in the middle of the faucet knob(this will take another person to lend a helping hand obviously). The other edge of the piece of tile you are holding on the center of the faucet knob will come to exactly where you want to put the center bit of the tile hole cutter so mark that with your pencil take the piece your holding square on the tile above the faucet knob down and cut your hole using a tile hole saw bit that is slightly larger in diameter than the faucet knob.. Sorry if this sounds complicating but i think once you start doing it you'll see how easy it is.. Good luck..
Q:can wood flooring be installed over ceramic tile?
This depends on a few things. Is it a completely flat surface or is the tile sculptural and have a wavy top surface? Would you consider a floating floor system? These are usually either laminates or engineered and can go over a foam sheeting which could be placed on top of the tile. You could also do a glue down depending on how flat the surface is, and if the tile is down well and not loose. A solid 3/4 thick nail down would not work well unless you took up the tile and made sure the sub floor was a good working surface. My choice in a condo would be to float a floor over a foam sheeting. Engineered although they have warranties probably will scratch etc and depending on what you choose may or may not be refinish-able. Plus in 10-15 years you may not be there and/or the tile may be in style again or carpet could come back or lighter colored flooring etc. Owning it, I would go with an inexpensive engineered, they are much richer looking than the laminates and you may appreciate that if you ever sell. He is right you will have to plane down doors and cut jams and also pop your moldings and reuse or replace them. But that is easier than tearing out tile even if it is on a nailed down wire system on plywood rather than backer board. And, flooring hieghts may differ because the thickness of the tile and together with what it was attached with, may not be the same as the floor you choose anyway. Sometimes in order to make up the difference they lost by taking out the tile and backer or scratched wire, people go with a 3/4 solid which are generally (unless you find a deal) higher in price. Plus if it is a wire job you may also have to replace some of the plywood flooring after the rip out. But keep in mind you need a flat surface to avoid all that tile rip out.
Q:i need help figuring out how many boxes of tile i need?
192/30 = 6.4 boxes, but it's rarely that simple. Depending on layout and size of tile (diagonal, border, number of obstacles etc.) you need to figure waste %. Say 10-20%. Waste % really depends a lot on how intricate a pattern and how big of tile it is, it will change the equation a lot (smaller tile less so than larger). 192x1.10= 211 = 7 192x1.20=230 or 230/30 = 7.6 Say 8 to be safe or 9 and return one.
Q:ceramic tile vs. vinyl tile?
vinyl tile would be a lot cheaper..off the top of my head and if the place is empty and the floor that the vinyl tile is going over is in good shape, you are probably looking at around 800 dollars........ceramic maybe 3 to 4 thousand......these figures are far from exact but the vinyl tiles could probably be finished in a day, whereas, the ceramic could take 4 to 5 days in all.........
