Q: i am re-wiring light switches in my home. Pulled off the old switches and there are four wires. 1 red, 1 black, 1 white and 1 bare. My light switch has three spots, 2 brass screw plates and a ground screw, what of the 4th wire?
Seems like you have three way light switches. Try using a three way light switch there is a difference from a regular light switch.
Q: I wanted to ask, im busy installing a new stereo headset for my car, when i replaced the old stereo with the new one, i used the wire harness from the old stereo and joint the wires to the back of new the stereo (which there is another black adapter that goes in the wire harness area on the the new stereo) i did this by connecting the wires from the stereo adapter to the wire harness that connects to the car, although the adapter that connects to the stereo has more wires than the wire harness that connects to the car,( i only connected the wires that were matching such as grey wire to grey wire, grey wire with black strip to grey wire with black strip, and so on, i obviously didn't connect the colours that didn't match to the wire harness wires, although i looked up online and apparently the yellow wire is a power wire, but i don't know where to connect it......if anyone could help, this would be greatly appreciated , i also wanted to ask, would this solve the problem if i buy a new wire harness? Thanks
What kind of car is it? That's important, especially if it's a foreign make because those wires are so weird colored. Typically, yellow or ornage is power, red is memory, and the purple, gray, white, green wires are for the speakers .Black or brown wires are ground. Any blue wires you might come across are mainly just auxiliary signal wires that go to an aftermarket amp and subwoofer setup. Unless you have something like that, those wires can be taped off and forgotten about. Also, when wiring an aftermarket radio to your car, you will need to purchase an adapter harness that plugs into the stock wiring of the car and the wires connect to the radio wire harness correspondingly. I suggest soldering all the necessary wires and sealing them with shrink tube. It's the most solid, most sure way of a good connection without the worry of shorts and disconnections.
Q: I have a 1988 ford econoline, and I'm upgrading my radio. I need a straight up answer, I need to know what the colors for each wire stands for, function wise.
Radio 12v lt. green/crimson + radio harness Radio floor black/orange - radio harness Radio Ignition gray/yellow + radio harness Radio Illumination N/A production facility Amp turn-on N/a skill Antenna N/A LF Speaker +/- orange/lt. grn - lt. blue/wht +,- radio harness RF Speaker +/- white/lt. grn - dk. green/org +,- radio harness LR Speaker +/- gray/lt. blue - tan/yellow +,- radio harness RR Speaker +/- orange/pink - brown/crimson
Q: So basically my i have a ps3 wired controller but the problem is the wire any jerks or movement at all and it will shut off and i have to repeatedly press the home button to turn it on i am 100% sure its the wire any ideas on how to fix this problem?
It sounds like the wire is loose. To fix this, you'll have to open up the controller and reattach/secure it. If the wire is exposed and is frayed, you'll probably have to get a new controller. This is very broad because you didn't specify the model of the controller. Some of the wired controllers use the normal Ps3-USB wire, while others do not. So, trying opening it up and securing the wire. If you're lucky and it's a Ps3-USB wire, replace it with a new wire. Otherwise, you'll have to get a new controller if you can't fix it.
Q: The drawing shows two long, straight wires that are suspended from the ceiling. The mass per unit of length of each wire is 0.050kg/m. Each of the four strings suspending the wires has a length of 1.2m. When the wires carry identical currents in opposite directions, the angel between the strings holding the two wires is 15 degrees. What is the current in each wire?? Im not sure what equations to use for this problem.
You need two basic equation: 1° Force acting on conductor in magnetic field: F = B I λ ..........(1) where B is magnetic field (also called magnetic induction) I is current λ is length of wire 2° Magnetic field near straight wire carrying current I B = μo I / (2πd) ..........(2) where d is distance from the wire μo is the magnetic permeability constant of vacuum (approx. same for air) μo= 4π*10^-7 Tm/A When there are two parallel wires on distance d carrying currents I1 and I2, each of them produce magnetic field causing forces acting on wires. Magnetic field from second wire creates force on first wire: F1 = B2 * I1 * λ Magnetic field from first wire creates force on second wire: F2 = B1 * I2 * λ These forces are equal in magnitude: F = μo I1 I2 λ / (2πd) ..........(3) When currents flow in same direction forces are attractive, and for opposite direction forces are repulsive. When I1=I2, F = μo I? λ / (2πd) ..........(4) Each wire, suspended on strings, decline from vertical position for angle θ=15°/2 = 7.5°, so that the angle between the strings holding the two wires is 2θ=15°. We find F from condition of static equilibrium of torques (relative to point where strings are attached to ceiling): F L cos θ = G L sin θ ..........(5) where G is weight of wire; G = m'gλ where m' is the mass per unit of length of each wire. L is length of strings from (5) we get relation F = G tan θ ..........(6) or F = m' g λ tan θ ..........(7) and from (4) and (7) : μo I? λ / (2πd) = m' g λ tan θ ..........(8) λ on both sides cancels, and we find current I as I = √(2 π d m' g tan θ / μo) ..........(9) You didn't say if there was some initial distance between wires, so we'll assume they are suspended in same points. In that case d = 2L sinθ ..........(10) and finally I = 2 √(π L m' g sinθ tan θ / μo) ..........(11) I = √[1.2 * 0.05 * 9.81 * sin 7.5° * tan 7.5° / 10^-7 ] I = 318.034 A
Q: I'm trying to tighten the electrical wires on my car.Do I just use pliers and twist them tighter? Can I use my hands?-tightening the wires on my ignition switch and starterNeed to know asapNo B.S. just need to know how
Why you want to tighten the wires? If you meant position it, I would use zip ties, pull the electrical wire tight is not a good idea.
Q: hi can anyone help i am currently building a 50cc scooter up from scratch i have most parts but ive started on the wiring does anyone know where i can get a wiring diagram also what wire recharges the battery from the magnetic pickup thanks
Best thing to do is search the net for the make and model of the engine , each one is slightly different in design and wiring so that's your best bet .
Q: my questions is what wires go where. i just bought a Hunter thermostat model # 44155c. on my old thermostat the wires are as followes:W2-jumps to quot;F(Yellow Wire)F-Yellow WireO/B-Light Green WireR-Red WireG-Dark GreenC-Red Wire Y-Yellow WireMy new thermostat has these options:RH, RC, G, Y/O, W/B, Y1can anyone tell me what wires go where?thank you
you were suppost to mark the wires by which they were screw to by color code; w rd blk etc.and then wire to new unit with same color code, some terminals need a small branch wire to bypass, lets say an ac with a heat pump.Ok now this is what an ac man will do, he will go to the compressor and write where the wires there are wired and then he would look up the color code and put the wires where they go. Also i relie heavily on the 800 help line number. Some ac men will put different colors on the wrong terminals, put a sticker on the unit and when there is trouble, they will call him,if all the wires were black and he knowes where they go, you see. A trusted ac man would be a great help, and remember, you're checking at the wall, not at the unit where the signals are not being recieved correctly, the thermostat is the brain, and one more thing, you are on the right track, because a progamable thermostat can save you a lot of money especiall if you're gone a lot.
Q: Why is it that some wires get hot, having electricity flow throught them, while others don't?And why is it that when there is a lot of resistance in a wire, that it doesn't get hot?Why does the length of a wire has an effect on the temperature of that wire, and how exactly?
The temperature of a conductor(wire) is directly proportional to the resistance of the conductor and directly proportional to the current flowing through the wire. high resistance and high current high temperature high resistance and low current lower temperature low resistance and high current lower temperature A cool wire with low temperature either doesn't have a current through it or very low current The longer a given wire the higher the resistance( see number one answer)
Q: I have an old sewing machine without a plug that needs wiring up but it doesn't have the modern wire colours. There's one red wire and one yellow. Does anyone know how to do this? Thanks =]
It would be better for you to post a picture of your wires and where they are going to on the machine so that we can tell you what is what. Otherwise it would be difficult to say just by telling us one is red and one is yellow. No offense intended, there's just not enough information with just knowing the wire colors. ------------------------ WARNING! Red is NEVER used to indicate a earth connection as XOXO suggests! Damage to your machine or harm to you could result if you attempted to connect red to earth. ------------------------ OK, I see your picture (thanks): Yellow is most likely the common wire. It connects to your white wire. The red wire connects to the Hot (black) wire. If you have a switch in the system, the red wire would connect to your switch or foot (gas peddle). And of course the other side of your switch would be connected to your black wire of the power cord.
