FAQ:

Solar panel refers either to a photovoltaic (PV) module, a solar hot water panel, or to a set of solar photovoltaic modules electrically connected and mounted on a supporting structure. A PV module is a packaged, connected assembly of solar cells. Solar panels can be used as a component of a larger photovoltaic system to generate and supply electricity in commercial and residential applications. Each module is rated by its DC output power under standard test conditions, and typically ranges from 100 to 320 watts. The efficiency of a module determines the area of a module given the same rated output – an 8% efficient 230 watt module will have twice the area of a 16% efficient 230 watt module. There are a few solar panels available that are exceeding 19% efficiency. A single solar module can produce only a limited amount of power; most installations contain multiple modules. A photovoltaic system typically includes a panel or an array of solar modules, an inverter, and sometimes a battery and/or solar tracker and interconnection wiring.

Q:What does solar panel output refer to?
Power = work done/time taken In other words, Watts=Joules/second. In this respect, power is a little like speed (m/s). Your question is looking at a car with a 50mph top speed, and asking how long is it going that fast? The solar panel will produce .5KW for as long as you require it. Enough to boil a kettle, run a modest electric heater etc,
Q:How can I make a sun tracker for a solar panel?
tbls0 has a good idea for the tracker, but let's take this one step farther. A clock motor large enough to move a solar panel, unless it is a very small one is going to be large, and expensive. Use the timer motor, as suggested, but attach a slotted disk to it, with a light source on one side, and a detector on the other side. As each slot comes up and allows light to pass through, this creates a one shot pulse which is used to cause a stepper motor to move position to keep the panel aimed at the sun. At the end of the panel travel for the end of the day, a switch could be set to close, bypassing the step control to put the motor into full constant speed reverse, this causing the panel to swing back to the morning position. The whole affair gets it's start up call by means of a light detector, similar to those used to turn lights off at sun up. The control would, of course be set to turn the system on to track the sun during the day. While some digital control is going to be needed, the system would not need a computer to run it.
Q:How many volts does a small solar panel on a calculator produce?

Q:Question about solar panels?
One key piece of information missing is the average number of peak sun hours per day. This will vary by location. It is latitude, regional weather, and site shading must be considered. Another consideration is the loses. The 60 watt solar panel is a DC voltage. The 2300 kWh is for the AC power consumed. There are loses in the inverter to change the electricity from DC to AC. There are also loses for wire resistance, soiling of the panels, wire resistance, etc. To work out an example of the math, I'll use 5 peak sun hours and a total efficiency of 80%. The math can be worked out as a single formula but I'll break it into steps for you. (2300 kwh/month)(month/30.4 days) = 75.65 kWh/day (60 W)(5 psh)(80%) = 240 Wh/day = 0.24 kWh/day/panel # of panels needed = Energy use / Energy generated (75.65 kWh/day) / (0.24 kWh/day/panel) = 36 panels.
Q:Why do solar panels stop working?
If they get smashed, they won't work. Keep them clean, and they will last many years. I suppose there is a 'limit' to the effectiveness of the cells lifespan, but it must be more than 25-30 years. Just glass, metal frame and silica. No moving parts. Seems like a good deal.
Q:solar panel webcam?
Q:anybody got any info on solar panels for energy savings?
Consider calculating the solar costs and savings ahead of time. The price of panels have come down substantially in the last 2 months. Solar Panel lifespans have also increased. The return on investment also depends on your location in the world. Mains electricity costs seems to be going up quicker than inflation in Australia. Work out energy efficiency first as it usually cheaper than alternative energy.
Q:Do solar panels add to global warming?
Third Law of Thermodynamics (in normal speak): “Not only can you never get ahead, you can’t even break even.” This is a truism that applies to all activities involving energy exchange (and almost everything else as well). Energy in the form of solar radiation falls on the earth. That energy is absorbed by the planet (everything) and heat results. Some portion of that energy is lost in the absorption process and the net released as heat is less than that absorbed from the sun. This is true in all cases. Solar panels, both photovoltaic and heat collectors are subject to the Third Law and they all lose some of the radiant energy striking them in the process of converting that energy into either hot water (or whatever fluid) or electrical energy. Regardless of the process there is always a net loss of energy. The time delay you mention has no bearing on the total heat gain or loss for the planet. In fact the “solar panel effect” reduces the net energy put back into the ecosystem because it introduces another iteration of energy loss through conversion. The Holy Grail of energy conservation it the ability to use, store or recover the entire amount of energy produced regardless of the source of that energy, burning hydrocarbons, geothermal heat exchange, solar radiation, mice on treadmills …..all forms of energy suffer a net loss in any exchange! If we could avoid that loss we could dramatically reduce the heat lost into the atmosphere or ground water and our net energy gain would also be dramatic! Check out the super cooled circuits in use to reduce resistance in sophisticated electronic equipment for a good example of the energy savings. (Of course the savings do not account for energy lost in the cooling process. In any event NO….. solar panels do not contribute to global warming via their operation. (Their manufacture is another story altogether!)
Q:I have 700watts ups and 2V,65amp battary..i want to add solar panel to just only charge my 2v,65amp batt.?
Check the rating on the battery. Either look on the label, or look up the exact manufacturer's part number on the internet. There should be an amp-hour (AH) rating. It's very doubtful that the battery is 65 AH, by the way. When you get the amp-hour rating, people can advise you further.
Q:Efficiency of solar panels?
Efficiency of photovoltaic panels usually describes the ratio between the energy of the sunlight falling onto the panels and the electric energy you get out. This number is, for commercially available panels today, usually in the range of 2...9 %. What you are asking is something else. The power from the panel depends on the light falling on it. A panel rated for kw peak will deliver that kw under a clear sky, with the sun orthogonally above the panel. For a fixed mounted panel, that is true (at most) for two days every year at noon. At any other time, the output is less. Therefore (at least for the area I live in), some people build databases (and Excel tools) in which the various variables are considered: - inclination of the panel - orientation of the panel - average sunshine duration during a year Plugging in these numbers, I get theoretically for my roof an electricity output of just over 000 kWh/year per installed kWpeak of collector power. If you set up a tracking panel (following the sun), the energy output of the panel will be higher, but so will be the cost for the mounting and the area needed to set up the system.
