- Q:I have a hard wired smoke alarm that is beeping 1x every 30 seconds. I removed the cover and looked for a battery and could not find anywhere for a battery to be placed.just the wires that the detector is attached to. - The clamp you are using should fit somewhat snugly over each pipe. If it is quite loose, there are clamps that fit different size pipes on each end. If you try to tighten a too loose clamp, it will pucker and likely leak. Good luck
