Scrap the degreaser plan which will leave an oil slick in your drive way and the motor will stink like kerosene for a week. Take the car to a wand type car wash. Lift the hood and hot soap spray everything under the hood. Rinse with clear water when everything is clean. We have been cleaning car, truck, tractor and lawn mower engine compartments for 45 years at wand type car washes. The alternator and starter will not be damaged. Roger the top contributor doesn't know squat about cleaning engine compartments.
