- If it says 12 volt wire, it just means you need to supply the lights with 12 volts. Depending on how much power the lights pull, will depend on how thick the wire should be. If it is saying to use 12 gauge wire, well, then use some 12 gauge wire.
- Q:I live in a condo and Im trying to wire a new light. When I wire it, it stays on constantly despite hitting the switch.The wiring Im dealing with is as follows.At the switch on the wall, there is a red wire, brown wire connected to the switch. A green wire connected to the box in the walll behind the switch.In the ceiling there is a brown wire, green wire, and a white wire wrapped with an unstripped red wire.Coming from the fixture are black, white, green.Ive tried connected black-brown, white-white green-green but the light stays on no matter what. - the red and brown are probably positive (red) and the brown (neg) The green is probably a ground wire. You can go to the hardware store. Home Depot or Sears or Ace etc and get a small tester and then touch it to the wires. It will come with instructions and you can also ask the sales person in the electrical dept.

- The two small wires are positive and negative. Most are color coded and if it's a OEM part, the negative will be the same color as the group of smaller wires connected to the negative battery cable. Each manufacturer uses different color codes and for instance, Kawasaki uses black with yellow stripe. The other wire will go to the positive side. If the coil doesn't have wire coming out if it, it may have a + or - sign by the terminals. In actuality, it doesn't really matter which way you hook it up because a coil doesn't really care which way the electricity travels. It's the collapsing magnetic field that creates the spark and not the direction or movement of electricity.
- Q:I have a buffalo tools 2000 watt generator i have been rebuilding. I have searched for a wiring diagram to help but no luck at all my question is about the wires that come out of the section that generates electricity. Outside of all the resets and switches coming right out of the back of the section that creates electricity has 6 wires coming out. Four are hooked to two different plugs two in each plug one set is red the other blue and the last two wires are separate black wires i would think are negative/ground wires i am looking to know what the red wires and blue wires actually are dc/ac volt i imagine just would like to know for sure don't want to blow anything up and help even guesses will be greatly appreciated.

- You need to hook three wires into a five terminal switch? You aren't helping us much with any usable information. The yellow wire is the kill wire from the magneto. The black and red wires are hot from the battery and feed to the starter solenoid, assuming the switch has a start position. You need to check each terminal on the switch with an ohm meter to determine which function it serves and test the black and red wires with a volt meter to determine which one is hot now. Better still, why don't you specify the make and model, even the serial number if you can get it, and ask if anyone, including your local dealer, has a wiring diagram for that particular machine.

- you cannot simply go with matching the colors factory radios have extra wires that are not needed with an aftermarket install most of the time (wires that control the dimmer on the radio, speed sensitive volume) you will need three power wires (constant, ignition, and ground), plus your speaker wires use a test light to test your wires, usually at the radio the yellow wire is your constant, the red is your ignition, and black is always ground to find your constant use the test light, it will be hot at all times so that your radio can remember the time, and your settings- next you need your ignition, it is only hot when the key is on or in the accessory position, to tell the radio when to come on- the ground is self explanatory to find which wires go to what speakers all you need is a 9v battery, put the positive end to a wire and test all of the other wires to the negative side and you will hear a crackling noise from a speaker when you have the right combination
- Q:i need to connect a new bathroom light/fan combo to existing wiring. Existing wiring is black/white/red/copper. The new fixture wiring is black/blue/white/white. Thanks
- The existing wiring should be as follows: Black and Red are both hot. White is neutral. Copper is ground. The fan/light fixture should be as follows: Black and Blue are hot for the light and fan separately. White and White are neutral for the light and fan separately. Connect all 3 white wires. Connect the two black wires. Connect the Red and Blue wires. Connect the copper to metal on the fixture. The only thing left is to determine which switch is the light and which is the fan.
