- The issue is and always has been, less about the carpet and more about the padding. Certainly Hundreds of products are sold claiming to reduce or remove stains, and given that most carpet fibers are synthetics, they all may have some moderate success. It may also depend in large measure, on what caused the stain in the first place, and I promise you any WET attempts, no matter Who the PRO Cleaner is, who does the job,,, will leach to the padding. The same can be said for those machines so many rent from the grocery store. The problem will show soon enough, in that the stain, or some of it will appear to be gone from the carpet, but at least some of it will end up in the pad. Then as the carpet fibers will dry first the Moisture in the pad, along with the stain, will leach back up, into the carpet. Many PROS also use a Bonnet technique; similar to dry cleaning clothing. The machine (looking like a floor buffer) is fitted with an absorbent pad. Some chemical substance sprayed from an ordinary spray bottle is applied as the BONNET is then rotated over the stained area, gathering whatever amount is possible, into the Bonnet pad, while keeping a moisture level low so as to NOT allow seeping into the pad. In reality, if you want to keep this forecloser or even FLIP it you should probably pull the carpet, and at the very least replace the pad. You'll notice years of abuse that may not show on the carpet surface. Also to do the WET approach, even Stanley Steamer the likelyhood is that any leached substance/stain will add aromas to the house, when wet, that you might not enjoy, IE: Pet Urine. Steven Wolf

- I have rented a rug doctor machine to clean carpets and it works well and its not that hard. There are many video tutorials on line to show how. Vacuum the carpet very well before you start. It probably won't get the marks from felt tip pens. Its pretty cheap- about $35 for 24 hours rental of the machine plus about $12 for the carpet cleaning soap.

Where your rug is manufactured in , is actually irrelevant , but you have to make sure there's nothing living on its surface . It should be clean and of course directioned towards the Ka'aba . There are plenty hadith's mentioning the importance of a clean surface while praying. For some shi'a people I met , some of them practised praying on palm-leafs , I have been told that they honour the nature.

- As a carpet cleaning pro, I've seen hundreds of damaged carpets, mostly Nylon or Polyester, where a laundry product permanently damage the carpet dyes. When inquiring as to what caused the damage, the number one culprit was Oxy Clean Laundry Detergent. About 6 years ago, I came across a couple who used this product to fine tune the spills and stains in their carpet, severly damaging the Nylon carpet in numerous areas. They did receive a settlement from the Oxy company at that time to help replace their carpet. Their ads made it sound like they had a miracle product available. If you have Olefin carpeting, a laundry detergent may not hurt these fibers, but why take a chance. Never use bleach on any spill or stain on furniture or carpeting. I've seen thousands of damaged carpets cause by the mis - use of this laundry product.

- i like to go with just a painted concrete floor, then you don't have the headache of recplacing carpet/laminate floor if your basement floods, unless you have tons of money and can afford nature stone. i know you said you don't have the money tho.
