The answer is yes. It will get you skinny, but you will build up a tolerance and need to take more and more risking addiction, which will eventually make you lose your teeth, looks, freedom (jail) and risking overdose (death).

Did you ever build model cars as a kid, or anything close to this? If so, you'll like CPVC. I'd go with the CPVC, and not use PVC, because CPVC will work on both Hot, and Cold water installations. CPVC, and PVC are physically different sizes, so you'd be doing a lot of juggling. Why hassle? CPVC costs just a tiny bit more than PVC, but it's worth it if you're under a house, or in a cramped space, and go..Oh crap, that parts outside, in a box in the truck! (NO, I've NEVER done that,LOL!) You can use the rubber sleeves,(looks like a black rubber piece of thick tubing), to attach the galvanized pipe to the CPVC. Sometimes the collars with the brass/plastic ferrules won't work due to size differences.(it's an adapter,that looks like a tube with two twist on caps,on each end, to connect two pipe together, going from galvanized to CPVC,[or PVC], that has a plastic 'ferrule' for CPVC, and a brass ferrule for galvanized. I use the cleaner/primer, then glue. I wait 20 seconds applying pressure to keep the part's together, then go on to the next peice. I usually wait an hour or so before I turn the water on. (I've known guy's who've turned it on after 20 minutes) It really isn't that tough, just like putting a puzzle together. I suggest a cardboard box underneath with you with pre-cleaned, and primered parts, inside, then clean, and primer your pipe ends, on the spot. Use a knife, and/or some sandpaper to de-burr the ends of the pipe after you've cut them with a hacksaw. Just my 2cent's!

Making something adjustable yet airtight will be hard. The only rubber plugs I can think of are called plumbing test plugs, but don't know if they come small enough for you. PVC plug fittings are made, which fit (preferably with glue) inside the pipe, rather than covering the outside of the pipe like a cap does. Not sure that either would seal as well as you need without glue, or would be adjustable enough if left dry. - Either might fit well enough dry to test the tone, then trim the pipe to the desired length and glue in place

There are several different types of compression style fittings available to repair pipes in this situation. I suggest cutting off a very short piece of the pipe and bring it to a local plumbing wholesale store or plumbing shop tmrw and they can show you a fitting that will work. Some brands that could work are - sharkbite - john guest fittings - Jaco fittings - philmac couplings the advantage of a compression fitting is that there is no glue or cement required to seal the joint. The seal is made by a nut and ferrul, rubber gasket or plastic washer. Most of these compression fittings are available from 3/8 to 2 or bigger and are easy to install with tools most people already own. Making sure you have a nice square cut and that you remove any burrs created while cutting is imperative. these fitings can be used on PVC, PEX, CPVC, PolyB, copper, and certain galvanized sizes. If youre stuck gluing, make sure you are using a proper primer before you apply the cement to the pipe and leave the pipe de-pressurized as long as possible. You can also try using a non flaming heat gun from a safe distance ( glue and primer are extremely flammable) so as to speed the curing up while not damaging the pipe or causing a fire or explosion. hope this helps :) Roland

do not use the tape the olive is the seal. if the olive is damaged then it will not seal. just fit the pipe with the olive in place screww the nut up tight by hand then a small amount extra with a spanner. no to much pressure or you will split the nut. pipe fitter for many years

GF is right to want to replace the furnace. A bad heat exchanger is a killer. I myself would have condemned the furnace and disabled it so you would not be able to use it. And I can do it by law. If you have any concern that the exchanger is bad have them prove it to you when they get it out. You can see if so ask. Now my take on all the high efficiency units out there in the world. Scam. Ask them what the replacement cost for a variable speed motor is installed. It may shock you and will this company be there when it goes out. The controls in that motor alone are sensitive and do have problems. They will come back.
