Q:hii have a dodge charger 2008. engine 3.5 v6the problem is i have the check engine light keeps coming and going,when its on it goes off after restarting the car for 5 or 6 times.i have changed the engine oil and the air filter and still have the same problem.any suggestions ?

Clearly you need to find out what error code is causing the check engine light to come on. There's about 1000 errors that can be stored on a modern car, so guessing isn't going to do any good.

Q:ffirst the head lights, if i leave the switch in the auto position they will want to shut off and on, day or night!! i also hear a niose under the dash close to where my head light swicth is located whitch has a sound like a relay clicking. second the heater i have replaced the control unit and when i did the fan only worked on high. evertthing else works fine hot to cold and flow direction any suggesstions

We'll start with the heater. Your problem isn't the switch but the blower resistor which is located near the blower motor on the passenger side of the interior. If you can get yourself under the dash you'll see a few wires leading to a slim connector very close to the firewall. It is held in by two screws. It's a very easy fix and very, very common in GM cars. The headlight problem is either a relay or the switch itself. Call the dealer and ask if there is a separate relay for the Day/Night sensor, if so swap it our with one you know is good from within the fuse box. Since it only happens on auto it has to be related to that system, so if it isn't a relay then it's either the switch or the Day/Night sensor. Good luck.

Q:so the light's on, i had it checked in auto zone, they said it was a small leak, i changed the gas cap, disconnetcted the bateray and put it back on, light's still on. where should i go from here, what else can i check?

I take it they said the gas cap was leaking. If so, the fault is a gas tank pressure problem. The system usually is made up of charcoal canister, solenoid, and pressure sensor all located near the gas tank. There may also be a solenoid located by the engine. These all work together to collect excess gas fumes and send them back to the tank. If the gas cap didn't fix it, it could be one of the items I mentioned. I would search online with the code you got from AutoZone and see which components your car has. If it indicates the charcoal canister, it might just be the solenoid by the canister (its a lot cheaper). The solenoids tend to go bad after many years because of their exposure to road water, salt, etc.

Q:I just bought the vehicle used and don‘t know what‘s been done to it mechanically. The manual talks about problems with the emissions control system and not to drive too far or at excessive speeds. I just need ideas about what maintenance repairs can be done to possibly eliminate any major issues.

Have the system scanned by a professional. There are too many things that can set a code to even start guessing.

Q:I have a 1992 Geo Prizm (same as a Toyota Corolla). The battery and alternator were replaced last March. The problem is that since then the battery and brake indicator light flashes on the dashboard intermittently. Sometimes it will come on for 2 minutes and not come on again for a month. Other times it flickers for half an hour every time I am driving. It seems a lot worse in the cold weather or when the car has been sitting for days without running. I noticed that when it does flicker on, the headlights dim slightly. What is going on? Any ideas?

Obviously you have a short circuit somewhere. If it only started after the battery and alternator were replaced, get the person who installed them to investigate it. Why have you left it so long?

ABS stands for Antilock Braking System. Why would you think an Oxygen Sensor, installed the exhaust, has anything to do with the brakes? The ABS sensor is integral to the Wheel bearing assembly on most vehicles, that and an hour labor sounds like $300 is reasonable. However, an independent mechanic shop can usually do the exact same quality job for less. Their labor rate is lower, and they won't need to install a gold plated part, shipped to the from Japan. You can not do it yourself, since you don't even know which wheel speed sensor is defective, nor where the O2 sensors are. Edit: The parts jockeys at Auto Zone are employed to sell car parts. They are NOT trained to diagnose the ACTUAL problem. Please take the vehicle to a trained mechanic for a proper diagnosis and repair. Yes, when the ABS system detects a problem, it deactivates the ABS and illuminates the light. Be aware: it is still completely safe to drive with the ABS light on. ABS is an electric, add-on system to the brakes. The normal, hydraulic brakes stay completely intact, safe, and functional.
