- Adding onto what Terrance said. Take off the gas cap and put it back on tight after a minute or so. THEN, disconnect the negative side of the battery for a minute, then reconnect it. 98% of the time, the light will go out and stay out. Did this on my 2001 Civic and also on my 1997 Accord over the last year and the lights never came back on. O yea, and it only came on due to the fact my 18 year old daughter put gas in the car. Need I say more?
- Q: I have a 2001 volvo s60 (I love it so much!!!) any way the check engine light came on this morning, it drives the same nothing seems different, i took it to advanced auto to run a diagnostics and it came out no codes but the light is still on, i know nothing about a volvo‘s engine (horrible i know) so i really have no idea what is triggering my engine light, oh the service light comes on every time i start the car but goes off like 30 seconds later and its done that since i bought the car last week. any help would be wonderful!! thank you!!
- That's normal as long as the light does not stay on or continuously flash you are okay. The lights come on and then go off as a check of the system. Check engine light has to do with emissions so not to worry if it comes and stays on just make sure the gas cap is put on properly after you put gas in it that usually triggers it to stay on most of the time.
- Q: Last week I had a tail light out and was checking fuses before I tried switching bulbs. When I pulled a 10 amp fuse the dash display went black. The fuse was ok, so I put it back in. But after I put it back the check engine light stayed on and has been lit since. Is there really a problem with the exhaust system or is there a way to reset the display?

- Auto-start has lots of interlocks and any one of them will keep the starter from working. My daughter's has error codes that blink on the parking lights (hers is saying the disable toggle switch is off, but she can't find the switch). You will have to search for the user's manual for the model you have to decipher the code.
- Q: Took it to Auto zone auto parts and the code came up Secondary air injection system.I recently changed my air cleaner and the cover is held by three screws,I dropped one down in the car frame and cant get to to it so the cover is being held with 2 screws with the front corner one missing.Could this have lead to the check engine light to come on with this code.or any other suggestions on secondary air injection system?
- nah, all u need to do is remove the box in the top right corner under the hood, it has a hose attached to it. use a vacuum and suck out the filter ****.

- the evap system uses a fuel tank pressure sensor to verify system is purging when the computer commands it on,it does this by turning on the purge solenoid valve. the most common cause of a flow during non purge is a sticking purge valve,also if the vacuum lines are switched at the valve it will also cause this concern.(a loose gas cap will not cause this dtc it will set a po440)

- On okorder has the fault code charts to tell you what is wrong! Although it’s a pay site ($14.95/day), it’s a lot cheaper than going to the dealer. Some vehicle manufacturers accommodate systems without a scanner (like Toyota, Lexus, Nissan, Infinity, Honda, Acura, Ford, Lincoln, Mazda & Mercury) . Most all other vehicles require a scan tool for the diagnosis. Here is a link to the list of vehicle and scanner requirements. - Q: an emissions control leak (small). im not sure of the exact code. they told me to get a new gas cap and i should be fine. so i did and the code came back on. i went back and had them turn it off twice and it is still coming back on. what does this mean and how much would it cost to fix it? thanks.
- I have a 2001 Pontiac Grand Prix GT (same engine). When you put the gas cap back on after filling it up, are you tightening it enough to make it click at least 3 times? If not, that could be your problem. If you do that and it still doesn't go away, take it to a repair shop for an estimate -- NOT a dealer. Dealers will charge you top-dollar and do piss-poor work. The last emissions control problem I had was a bad EGR valve, and that cost me about $350.00 to get it replaced.
