Q:stopped at autozone and had computer hooked to it.what came up wasevaporative emmission system my vehicle is running great !so i am do for an inspection,will i be able to disconnect the battery and shut off the light just so it passes inspction(it is a 2005 astro van)?also when i go for the inspection is the tool they use different than the tool auto zone used?if not the code will show up anyway? any help

eh just get normal ones. its cheaper. tons of people need braces, who cares? best just save the money, thats what i would do. it depends on how bad your teeth are and how long you're gonna need the braces on. mine were pretty messed up but i only had them for 2 years but it came to about 8 grand, in california.

Q:The service engine light on my 2006 Nissain recently came on. We took it to our trusted mechanic and he was puzzled as to why it came on (the code was for a transmission problem that is very rare, especially on a car with less than 30,000 miles). He reset it, and told us that if it comes back, to take it to the dealership as it may be covered by the warranty. It came back so we went to the nissain dealership. It was $120 to check out the problem. They told us that nothing was wrong, and reprogrammed the service engine light. I repeatedly asked WHY the light came on. The dealership thought I should be happy that nothing was wrong with the car. To me, having a light randomnly pop off that requires a $120 fix is a complete and utter scam. If it‘s scheduled maintanence, then they should explain that.instead of simply charging me money and telling me I should be happy. Are these lights scams?

Service engine lights are rather sensitive. Sometimes a minor bump on a component can set it off even if nothing is wrong. You shouldn't pay $120 to get someone to check out the light, and instead by an engine error code readout device for $40-50 and then talk to your reliable repair shop. Never take your car to the dealer for any maintenance/repairs unless you need a new transmission or engine and it's under warranty.

Yes. The O2 sensor will have trouble dealing with the increase in CO2 inside a garage. But you never should have done that because it is very bad for your cardio vascular system. It takes weeks for the carbon monoxide to get out of your blood. Not at all a good idea. But take the car to a place like Autozone to have the codes read and the light reset. You took days, if not weeks, off your life.

Q:well i am seeing that everyone is saying that we are only required to pay liability. basically pay the damages you inflict on the other car. The Auto Insurance system is backwards then. Why are we paying to cover the other persons damages, wouldnt it make more sense if the person pays X amount of money every month to cover their own asses? that would mean that if i chose to not have insurance and i happen to get in a wreck then that was my choice and if the person i hit was smart enough and payed for insurance to cover themselves then what would be the problem with that?what are your thoughts?

Q:Fuel gauge was not registering and diagnostic could not find problem but mechanic installed the ELD sensor and this seemed to solve the problem with the fuel gauge although mechanic did not think there was anything wrong with fuel gauge. That problem was in February. This month I brought the car to dealer because of engine light. I was told to bring in car early in morning (6Am) because it will require more diagnostic work to determine why engine light stays on. They mentioned emission problem. I passed NY emissions Inspection a few weeks ago.

There are over 160 conditions that are tested that could cause the light to be turned on. in most cases a dealer or auto parts store can simply check for the code and tell you if it is a minor problem such as a loose gas cap or if it is something that will require a more extensive diagnosis. Without knowing the fault code, it is impossible to speculate on whether it is a new problem or related to a previous one. However, I'd recommend taking it to the dealer as there are still some items that are covered under the emissions warranty (most items are no longer covered but the expensive ones are). hope that helps

ABS light means the computer senses a problem w/ abs and it has - most likely - shut down the abs returning the system to standard brakes configuration. You can drive the vehicle normally - as long as brake feel and performance is ok. Just don't expect to have abs kick in. If you start to skid - pump the brakes yourself! The most likely cause is a dirty wheel sensor, sensor out of adjustment or a damaged wire to the wheel sensor. The sensors are magnetic and over time they collect metallic particles from the pads and discs - they get furry. Clean them off. Those are fairly easy to fix and not too $$. A scan tool will identify precisely the fault. If it is a sensor it will tell you which one. If it is in the actuator - or computer those get into a lot of money - so you may just want to stay with the standard - abs off system.

I have had my alternator recently changed and my spark plugs changed and my timing belt because they didn‘t know why it was having problems before till they changed my alternator, then I didn‘t have any problems for a few months till now for this part. Now on Monday May 24th, 2010 I drove to class and it was fine. I left class on Monday and when driving home I noticed the Service Engine Soon . I am taking it to the dealership this thursday but wanting to see if there are any info anyone else has on here. Thank You
