Q:or in queensland
Depends on whether you are employed or working contract. Currently it could be 18-25 per hr for employee or upto 40 per hr for contract depending on allowances and if you are providing your own vehicle or company vehicle. Then are you doing bats or anticon, it is usually charged on a sqm rate. Call some roofing companies or insulation companies and ask them what their rates are.
Q:im thinking of putting rolled felt paper under my metal roofing would that work instead of the reflective insulation instead?
Be careful what you do under your metal roof. We installed foam spray on insulation under ours and now the inspector is saying it's not "to code" and we lost the buyer for our house because of it. Call a metal roof company - they may give you some free advice.
Q:Are black concrete roof tiles for my house uncomfortably hot even with roof under sheeting and insulation?
It would be easier for you to keep your house cool if the tiles were white, or at least terra cotta. However, if you have good sheathing and insulation, it shouldn't be outrageously expensive to have black tiles. If you live in a climate that has snow, the black tiles should absorb enough heat that you won't have to go up there and shovel snow off.
Q:this room has an aluminum roof and hardwood siding. All the heat hit the aluminum roof
With Reynolds wrap.
Q:i have roof insulation but if i add more to the required depth the bottom layer will get compressed. Will it still insulate?
Simple - make your bottom layer 1" styrofoam sheets- it has a higher R value per depth (1 inch of styrofoam is equal to 4 inches of fiberglass ) and it will not take-up much space and it will serve as a vapor barrier - and it will not compress when covered by fiberglass insulation. (So you can add as much R value as you want - as much as you can afford - with styrofoam sheets because they take-up such small depths in your rafters --- Also, humidity, as on rainy days or sunless winter days, decreases the R value of fiberglass -- weather conditions do not affect the R value of styrofoam sheets.
Q:the noise when it rains is very loud. can I place an insulation material under the polycarbonate roof to reduce noise? Thanks
You can put it up there, but it's effectiveness at cutting noise would depend on the thickness of the insulation but you should not hope for too much reduction as the hard poly roofing is screwed or nailed directly to the rafters and is a good medium for sound transference.
Q:if you had snow and all the snow is off your roof and the house nex store has snow do we need insulation?
That is very observant of you. Yes this could indicate that you are losing more heat than normal through your roof. Though, you do want to be careful in the placement of any new insulation, you will want to avoid any vents that are there for ventilation of heat and moisture in the summer and any recessed lighting fixtures as to not cause an overheating problem with them. This is a good investment and it will pay you back in heating and cooling cost for years to come.
Q:I know when you inhale the insulation from the roof irritates the throat but what can you do to clear it from your throat after inhaling it?
it's not your throat you should be worried about. it's your lungs. wear a respirator....or at the very least, a dust mask. you only live once so make it last.
Q:House is a bi-level. Recently added storm windows to deck off dining room. Having a new rubber roof installed would like to know if we can insulate ceiling to make the room warmer. What product do you suggest we use. we are getting conflicting answers, some say you can insulate others say the ceiling needs to breath having a rubber roof install. Please advise.
Yes, you can. There is a little plastic piece that you will want to tack to the underside of the roof though before you install your insulation. It is a plastic air vent that keeps about an inch or so of space between the roof and the insulation so that air can move through. You need to do that so the roof can breathe as they say. If you don't allow it to breathe, the difference in temperature from outside to inside will cause the roof to sweat and will make your roof go bad a lot quicker.
Q:Tax Question: Itemized receipt for roofing and insulation?
Unless this is a rental property, maintenance is NOT deductible. IMPROVEMENTS to your home effect the cost basis used to determine capital gain or loss when the home is sold. As you can excluded up to $250,000 ($500,000 for married filing jointly) of gain the sale of you home, it is unlikely you will see ANY tax benefit.
