- The short answer is yes, wheel size is based on optimizing the traits desired. The reason different things have different wheels is that there are multiple factors to consider, including (but not limited to): rolling resistance, traction, cost, weight, size (there can be limitations on size imposed by various factors), material strength, etc. How a wheel is designed depends on its application. To give you an example: Compare train wheels with bike wheels. Bike wheels need to be light weight and have good traction. For train wheels, they need to be extremely durable and have low rolling resistance. Based on these requirements, bike wheels use minimal materials and rubber tires, while train wheels are robust metal and no rubber.

- Put one inside the wheel , place it on the truck , then gently push it in. Be sure you apply pressure evenly to get the bearings flush and even , you can tell by looking at it. Be sure to use washers on the outside and in to increase the life of your bearings and keep them clean.To get them out use a flathead screwdriver and pry them gently out.

- Q: What are wheel balancing weights...and how and when are they used on car wheels?
- they are used to balance the center of gravity of the wheel. if you have a dented rim, or a rim with some sort of weight effecting blemish, they add a counterweight on the opposite side of it to equal it out or balance it so the wheel doesnt rumble or shake the car. you usually dont feel anything but it could effect treadwear on your tires over time. the weights are usually on longer than 1inch long and snap right onto the lip of the rim. if you ever take your car in for a tune up, they usuallyrotate and balance" your tires. the balancing part is checking to see if they need to add or take away any weights off your rims. hope i helped!
- Q: I posted a question a few weeks ago about alignments and one of the answers lead to this question.I have a crooked steering wheel but there is no pull from the tires to either driver or passenger side. If I let go of the wheel, the car keeps going straight.Are there different types of alignment problems? - Do not remove the steering wheel and set it on different splines to straighten a steering wheel. If you have a front wheel drive car you need a four wheel alignment. Tell the shop that the steering wheel is crooked. Crooked steering wheel spokes is a dead ringer that there is an adjustment problem or bent suspension arm issue. I'll make a personal bet with you that the toe angle is out of adjustment.

- All wheel drive cars and 4-wheel drive cars operate on the same principles. There are other determning factors though. Actualy most vehicles have what is called an open differential. meaning they have only one drive wheel unless equiped with a locker or posi differential. So technically most 4-wheel drive vehicles use one drive wheel in the rear and one in the front when in 4-wheel drive mode. Most vehicles do not use a posi or locker up front as it is difficult to turn because the outside wheel in the turn must rotate faster. While possible to have a locker or posi in the rear it is not likely or easy to operate with a posi in the front. While not impossible it has been done. As to all wheel drive the front may be the main drive wheels with the rear coupled via a viscous transfer. Whether 2 or 4 wheels are being driven depend on the type of differential.

- dude, i've never noticed a difference, personally. I like blanks better (wheels, never boards) simply because they're cheaper, and wear just the same. brands may be a *bit smoother* but not by very much. i'd focus on your bearings first before brand wheels.

- I just put a steering wheel cover on mine. Now adapters for other steering wheels are in the 150 dollar range and the wheels are an additional 250 dollars. Miata Mania had direct fit ones in the same price range (199 to 230) which give a custom look the the wheel but do not require an adapter. A custom fit cover is about 50 dollars, I just use off the shelf ones myself.
