- Since you've done all the normal fixes already i think you should look at the possibility that your cam shaft is worn or the lifters. I'm not sure if an evinrude 20hp engine has lifters but i've had this same problem a few years back when chevy put cheap cams in some of their vehicles. The lobes on the cam were rounding off instead of being a teardrop shape and the vehicles would start and idle fine but would pop like mad on acceleration. Hope this helps!

- This does not sound good. If it is the water pump, there is a very good chance that you will severely damage the heads and/or block by continuing to drive it. I would not drive it at all, unless you want to risk the expense of a re-built engine (more than $5000 plus installation). If it is the water pump, and not covered under warranty (and I would really get on them about that) less than $1000.
- Q:I want to put a water pump on a horse trough with the pump on the outside of the fence. There is a hose attachement at the bottom of the trough for the intake. - When the water pump seal fails it's either because the water pump bushing/bearing is bad or because someone was running straight water in the cooling system. Once a water pump starts to leak it needs to be replaced immediately. If you let it go it will start to leak more and faster as the seal deteriorates. You will spend more money topping up the system with antifreeze then to just fix it. The other thing that will happen is you will get caught as it fails completely and overheat the motor causing thousands in damages or at least need a tow which once again will cost more than replacing the water pump.
- Q:I have a 1997 Pontiac Grand Prix 3.8 v6 engine. My car has been overheating lately and my low coolant light came on so i put antifreeze in it and the light went off. I drove about 3 blocks and the low coolant light came back on again and the thermostat was at the hot mark so i checked the antifreeze and it was just about empty. I did noticed when I was pouring the antifreeze that some did run out the bottom of the car but it wasn't alot. - if your water pump is bad you will see coolant dripping from around it. Sounds to me like you have a MAJOR leak or a blown head gasket. If the engine oil looks like chocolate milkshake after you drive it, then its the head gasket. Fill your radiator up with water and drive till the engine temp is topped out. then get out and open the hood and look for spewing water. If you see it then there is your problem... if not then check your oil for milkshake.

- Drain coolant - #13 drain bolt Remove hose from water pump cover Remove water pump cover - #12 Drain oil Remove R side cover - #1 Remove circlip - #23 Remove water pump shaft - #19 Pull out water pump seal - #20 Note the direction the seal is installed Tap in new seal This entire procedure is explained in detail in your service manual.

- I have seen this once before, the impeller was so old and corroded that it partially separated from the bearing or shaft on which it spins, and came into contact with the pump housing. No fault of yours, just replace the water pump with a new one.
