Q:I have a 1999 Volkswagen Passat and the water pump seems to be leaking. The lower radiator hose has been replaced but it still leaks a fairly substantial amount. From what I can tell the pump is still doing its job but I'm losing coolant. Is there a way I can determine if i just need a new gasket or a new pump altogether without ripping the front end off? Any feedback is appreciated.: The pump usually leaks from the center where the shaft comes out to the pulley, it should be replaced. It should be replaced regularly, as the timing belt runs on the water pump pulley, and if the pulley locks it will take out the timing belt and destroy the engine. How many miles on this car? How long since you replaced the timing belt? Probably too long, those should be replaced every 90,000 miles. Things to replace while you are in there: - Timing belt - Timing belt tensioner - Timing belt pulleys - Water pump (with gaskets) - Thermostat There are kits from Autozone and NAPA and such that have most of these parts together.

Q:I've bleed the lines, and gotten rid of all the air bubbles. I've replaced the thermostat correctly, (triple checked) and I don't think it's the water pump because it isn't leaking what so ever. My temperature gauge is not moving what so ever, and the coolant reservoir over flows heavily, and I can hear a thumping sound in the radiator.: Its gonna' take some doin' === Drain the radiator..remove the thermostat..fill the radiator with water and radiator flush chemical..run the motor..until hot..either with the Radiator Cap--ON or OFF.. If you left the radiator cap installed..the engine will need to cool down--to remove it.. Flushing your motor with the radiator cap removed offers time savings.. === Yet..the radiator might over-flow during the flushing. cedure.. === Stand away from the car..and be ready to turn off the motor.. ..safely drain all the flushed material..refill with fresh water and drain out(no need to start thre motor).. === Now..look at your thermostat..does it have a tiny little hole in the flange area.. The flange is the flat portion that supports the opening and allows a place to seal the gasket--there should be a tiny bleeder hole..that's not in the gasket portion.. It allows some coolant to flow--freely.. I once bought a thermostat that was missing the bleeder hole.. I used a tiny drill to replace that item..tiny hole like THIN Spagetti/..so fluid can escape thru thre system.. === With that in mind--get the system back together..check for leaks..//[end]

Q:Cant get the bolt loose fromthe fan that is attached to the water pump in my ford ranger. need to remove bolt in order to remove water pump.: You need a special tool that grasps and holds the water pump pulley by the four bolts that secure the pulley to the pump, while you loosen the fan by using the correct size of wrench to turn it CLOCKWISE to remove. The hex of the fan clutch is LEFT-HAND threaded on this particular vehicle application. You may need to heat the hex of the nut slightly with an oxy/acetylene torch if too much force is required to crack the hex loose. Once loosened, simply spin it off with your hand by the blade until it is removed. Hope this helps.

If a check valve wasn't installed or if it leaks by, and your sewer line is backing up, it will backfeed down the outlet pipe and into your pit. If you had a lot of water coming in from the ground, it would force the sewer water out of a drain somewhere, like a laundry drain, sink drain, shower drain, or toilet. If this is the case, get your sewer line to the main checked and have the sump pump installed properly.

Q:ive just replaced my water pump as i know it wasnt in good shape and was a big cause of my problems. but the new water pump also seems to make a noise once in a while like its dry and there isnt anywater or its having a hard time. the head is good and has an extra thick headgasket on it. my guess is i have a clogged radiator and it would sound reasonable as i have used head gasked sealant in the radiator and it has prob clogged parts of it. the other symptom is afater about 4 hrs of continuous driving it starts to over heat if im doing 70 bor more but if i drop back down to 65 it seems to stable out or in many cases go down all together. anyone else had thes symptoms. and will a water pump make noise if there isnt anywater to pump.: what is the 22r fitted in as most run a thermo fan assy which is fitted to the front of the water pump if you have this then most likely the thermo is either just about to seize or it's still turn's then its in freewheel mode the best way to check is when the motor is cold check and se if you have a thermo fan fitted if so out one blade at 12 oclock and spin with one hand if the blade goes down past 3 oclock then you will need to open the coupling this is a simple job you will see 8 phillips head screws remove all and crack open the coupling but before this is done go to your local toyota dealer and purchase 1x 08816 10001 silicone empty this into the coupling and close this will fix your problem

Q:We came home one day to find our bathroom floor soaked, and we had no water at all.we later found out that it was the washing machine hose leaking.Our friend primed the pump but isent an expert..we fixed that problem with a new hose.A few weeks after, we started to notice that when you are in the shower, the water would shut off for a minute and come back on for a minute, so on so on, perfectly timed., and this got worse and worse, yesterday it would be on for like 20 secconds and off for 3 minutes... last night the water was working good but today we woke up with no water.The water taps in the house hardly do it at all. I also noticed that when we are running water the water pump goes crazy fast, i can hear it because its a mobile home.: I'm guessing that you have a well. The others had some good points and I would just like to add that I had a similar problem with my pump. Turned out that the tank had to much air in it and was fooling the pressure switch.
