Q:I am wondering did water go over these reactors, and if they did is that what caused the problems, and if not, what in fact really happened?Could the devastation have been worse if water washed over it?
It probably helped with the overall catastrophe. It wasn't the tsunami, or the earthquake that caused the problems. It was during , and after the shut down procedure of the reactors, they had explosions and loss of power, backup generators, and eventually battery power that there having to deal with. Overheating big-time.
Q:I know they are more expensive.
Yes. But they also burn much hotter in the SOFC.
Q:I heard about the diesel electric concept from a friend and he didn't have a lot of details, but from what he knew it sounded really interesting. I was wondering if someone could give me some details on to what this new technology really is, and how it works. Thanks!
Well. first insight. If by new you mean the 1940s you are dead nut. Pretty ALL of the trains you see are diesel electric and have been since the 1950s. Here's how any Fuel-electric system works: You have a fuel. In the case of a diesel engine your fuel is Any stable liquid that burns. You burn that fuel in a chamber of some kind such that you create a physical motion. Pistons and cranks is the rule of thumb. You take that motion usually in the form of rotation, and you use it to move a magnet past a coil of wire. A magnet moving past a coil produces electricity, which you can now use to drive an electric motor, or charge batteries, or play Youtube or whatever. Diesel engines have a huge advantage over traditional internal combustion engines, (although diesel came first by like 12,000 years :). They require no spark, and they can burn darn near anything. The whole concept of a Diesel engine is that when you compress something, it heats up. If what you are compressing is flammable, and you compress it enough, it will ignite and burn. This turns out to be exactly true, and why you can run your 1982 VL Golf Diesel on a bottle of corn oil in a pinch.
Q:I'd like to convert some old cars and have them run like gangbusters.
This Site Might Help You. RE: Can you convert a non diesel vehicle to a diesel vehicle and how? I'd like to convert some old cars and have them run like gangbusters.
Q:i have Diesel generator100KVA , how many air conditioner of 2 tons (i phase)i can use with this generator without overload
you need to look at the power requirements of the air conditioner of 2 tons it should indicate it's power requirements.
Q:Can you estimate the amount each year in CA.?What are the concerns/issues related to this application.
I don't know about CA but where I live the predominant fuel for permanently installed back up generators is propane. Propane is used because generators can sit idle for weeks or months between power outages. Gasoline and diesel have limited shelf lives and fuel systems can clog with varnishes when not used. Propane has an unlimited shelf life and does not gum up in the carburetor. Natural gas is not available here. In places where it is available natural gas might be preferable to propane. Its impossible to estimate how much fuel you would use in a year. It depends how big your generator is and how many power failures you go through. Most generator manufacturers will tell you how much fuel their products use in an hour.
Q:How many gallons of diesel would br required to run this generator for 24 hours??
assuming the generator is frictionless and converts all the energy of the burning fuel into electricity, you could find the answer by converting the fuel and amps into juels. I think.
Q:I can visually see the electronic speed actuator moving in and out when this is happening. Should I replace the actuator or could it be something else. This is in a boat.
There are several models of the 20K Westerbeke. Can you post up which model you have? It could be as simple as an adjustment. The actuators do not generally fail. However, if you have a lot of hours, say 2000, then the actuator spring may be worn out. Please post up your model and I will see what I can do. Also you can email me.
Q:Im building a new house, and I would like to go totally off the grid in South-Central Oklahoma.Id like to be able to run the tv, freezer, refrigerator, and minimal lights and water well.Im looking for information on a complete system.Any ideas/? Im looking for the pros and cons of this way of life from homeowners that have actually done this.
We are off grid in ky. Look into extremely efficient appliances, led bulbs, passive solar as well as solar hot water and active solar storage. You ALWAYS need more batteries than you have. Increase insulation to decrease heat/cooling losses. Install a cistern with a large rainwater catchment. 2500 gallons is not too much. Purchase property that has a woodlot and year round spring. Best to buy the whole watershed to ensure clean water.
Q:I live what i consider near a nuclear generating station in NJ.The site is Toms River Nuclear Generating Station, how would a melt down effect Rahway,NJ or the surrounding areas in general? How wide would the radius be? Or how much damage would be expected? Not stupid answers and no, You don't live in the ring of fire b.s. so don't worry about a tidal wave. Im questioning the unknown and the unexpected.
The answer depends entirely on the kind of accident or incident. It is not possible to predict without the hypothetical accident type, since not all accidents result in a core meltdown, and there are different ways for the core to end up in melt down situation. The danger zone also depends a great deal on the wind and weather conditions at the time and immediately afterwards. Obviously, if the wind is blowing from your location toward the plant, then there is less likelihood that you will be contaminated.
