Q:Hello, i have a 1987 volkswagen cabriolet that i purchased earlier this year. So far its been a pain in the butt. Recently i noticed it overheats real quick, but it didnt use to. then i noticed the coolant/antifreeze was being used up like no other! I discovered, after being parked at work, that it was leaking. it leaks basically anything i put in there now!! it leaks from the water pump housing,.,.... at least thats what the internet said it was.. its leaking from the end of the hose that connects to the engine... (the hose that comes from the coolant reservoir.) What do i do? I dont feel any cracks? does this part crack? is it an o-ring or somehting? how can i fix it? what happens if i dont? I am really absolutely NOTHING ABOUT CARS. Please help!!

This should also mean that nothing is in front of the condenser blocking airflow.

The actual shaft of the motor is not in contact with the water (except where the impeller is attached to the shaft). A common type of failure mode here is when the seals on the shaft (which keep the water contained to the impeller area) have failed and water has gotten past the shaft seal and degraded the bearings holding the shaft = seizing up.
Q:I've never had overheating problems before, (although the heating itself never worked great) but today the gauge suddenly spiked while driving at about 50mph. I pulled over and steam was coming off the engine and the cooland tank was bubbling. The coolant was low, but not empty. I put some water in the coolant tank, let the engine cool and drove to a gas station where I got some coolant which I mixed with the water in the coolant tank. That didn't seem to help any. Even after letting the engine cool completely, it spikes after less than five minutes of driving. The radiator and both top and bottom hoses are equally hot. When I tried to start the engine with the radiator cap off, cooland shoots up out the top. The fans are working propely and there is no debris on the front of the radiator. So I'm sort of at a loss. Also, I've had some trouble starting since the problem.
You need head gaskets. Compression from the cylinders is getting into the cooling system.
Q:I was wondering if water pumps make any noise when they are submersed? Also, my pond is quite small and I don't want to scare my fish with a noisy pump. Thank you!
It has been years since I had a pond. It was a freestanding pool with a fountain in it. I don't recall any noise from the submersible pump, only the sound of the splashing water.
