Q:I am looking for the stand by large generator 15-20kw (to use all the power on one transfer switch). The problem is that stand by generator require large propane tanks (expensive to install). I would like to find a stand by generator that i could run off gasoline and use all of it available power. I think this would the most economical solution. In case of propane/natural gas the cost of propane tank installation is significant. The diesel stand by generators are significantly more expensive. So far I have found tri-fuel13kw portable generator that has several outlets. In this case not all the power can be utilized.: Why do you need something that big? A 15kw gasoline generator is going to use 2-3 gallons per hour fully loaded and close to 1 gallon per hour at light load, and a 20 even more than that, hence you might not have to have a large propane tank but you will have a large gasoline tank. That is enough capacity to run a clothes dryer, water heater, and range (all electric of course) all at the same time. I personally got one of the Chinese 2 stroke 800w generators, its KWH per gallon performance is poor but in the winter it will run my gas furnace just fine and it only needs to be run several hours per day to keep the place above freezing. I have some batteries and inverters for lighting and I can cook with a portable propane camping stove. Since gasoline doesn't store well without going bad you will have to rotate your stock of it probably by using multiple small cans or by having a big tank and using your supply in your car and getting more as needed. Propane in a leak-free tank will store indefinitely Diesel will also store long term by occasionally treating it with fungicide and keeping any water drained off the bottom. Natural gas is obviously just piped in.

Q:hi , can anyone give me the DG a,b,c,d checks details and schedule like a chart or something: Hi It is the same as a gas engine to maintain. Except for the fuel has to be water free. There will be a bowl some where to empty the water. Changing the oil etc. depends on how much you use it.

First define the generator output in terms of watts. Assume an efficiency of 0.8 for the generator and define the Input of the generator (In Out / 0.8). This is the output of your motor (assuming some diesel/petrol). Torque is expressed as N/m (force x radius) and is part of the electric generator specs. See there to get the equivalence. Usually, the motor power is also 0.8 efficient, so the motor power should be W / (0.8*0.8) and that will give you the right ratio.

Where are good sources of vegetable oil?: Red diesel is agricultural, no tax or tax reduced. The Red is only a dye to distinguish it from tax paid diesel. However using it illegally can result in very hefty fines if caught. Used and cleaned vegetable oil can be mixed with diesel, actual proportions I'm not sure of, but I think 3:1 oil to diesel. There are probably sites that explain in more detail. However why it has to be used veg. oil I don't know.

Q:Having a basic background in electric and family moving into a remote prefab home with no electric, water, or gas, I decided to help. House and work shed electric requirements are simple, totaling a possible 5kwh at a given time to the shed, and 7kwh to the home. Obviously the home will have constant electric requirements (fridge, fans, etc). I cannot imagine it is economical nor efficient to run a diesel generator 24/7 for energy production as needed. There are entire books on the subject, and you need plenty of diagrams as well. That's far beyond the scope of an answer on here. But if all you need is a 12v regulated dc power supply why not just get a model car or boat engine and see if you can hook it up to a car alternator from a scrapped vehicle via a suitable pulley gearing? It certainly won't be quiet though, and you'll need to ensure that the engine is either fan or water cooled and that there's a suitable exhaust outlet. Model diesel engines aren't very large, but there are larger scale copies of the old British Mills engine design made in India, and also various websites which give you details or sell you plans on how to build your own. Usually they have lapped pistons so don't need the complication of piston rings.
