- A generator is usually powered by a diesel or gas (petrol) engine which powers an alternator to produce mains power for hours provided it is topped up with fuel. A UPS uses a large battery and a high powered inverter circuit to produce mains power but is not expected to power equipment for very long, just long enough to shut them down safely without loss of data.

- You would simply use a step-up transformer capable of handling 240V and about 8A. The transformer would be a transformer with 2 secondary windings for every 1 primary winding. This will double the voltage from the primary. 1000W is 1000W no matter what the voltage is. So (in a perfect world), you would get 1000W after stepping the voltage up to 240V. But you would actually get around 80-85% efficiency. But there is always a safety span built into the rating of generators (a 1000W generator could usually put out about 1400W without much of a problem). 1000W 120V * 8.33A (or 110V * 9.1A) 1000W 240V * 4.16A ---Realistically, you should be able to safely draw about 4A @ 240V. - Q:I am trying to use a marine deep cycle battery and power inverter to power a chest freezer in an ice cream truck. The issue is that the marine battery will drain in a few hours. I was told told that I could connect the inverter to the car battery as well as the marine battery and while the engine is running, the car battery would be charge the marine battery through the inverter. Can anyone tell me how this works and how I should do the wiring?thanks
- It will work but you need a battery charger as well, hook the inverter to the vehicles battery, then pulg the charger into the inverter, and then have the charger hooked to the marine battery. Why not just get a small generator or a 110v freezer and run it directly off the inverter or generator? You can plumb the generator into the fuel tank of the truck so you don't have to worry about filling the generator. If the truck is diesel get a diesel generator, gas for gas.

- What brand of Diesel engine is it? If it is a Detroit Diesel try resetting the air box lever.

- The 13L would produce more electricity.The smaller generator has to work almost twice as hard to do the same job. Torque is a measure of the turning force on an object such as a bolt or a flywheel. For example, pushing or pulling the handle of a wrench connected to a nut or bolt produces a torque (turning force) that loosens or tightens the nut or bolt. Also the higher the RPM the hard the generator has to work to get to 400hp so your 13L at 3600 RPM would produce around 750 Hp
- Q:I have been given a cheap diesel generator made from china. It starts alright, but seems to be reving very high and poping and spitting until it has ran for a while. It surges some times as well. I don't really like it much and haven't used it to power anything other then to load test it a bit. I have checked the motor and all it has is a simple governor on it with no adjustments? - Q:I have a bunch of old diesel left over from y2k, a family friend stored 10k gallons and its turned a brown color, it dosent small funny at least to me, still looks red if you put it up to the light but it is not vivid red like it used to be it has a dingy brown color.
