Q:I have no idea how to possibly even begin interms of comparison. i know for a standard diesel engine i can just look at fuel efficiency and overall engine efficiency, but how would i do this for a diesel electric engine??: Simple. You know the efficiency of the diesel. If you're going to add an electric drive, simply allow for the 10% or so losses in the in the generator - motor drive set vs. the smaller mechanical losses in a gear drive set.

Q:i have a 7.5 onam diesel generator that runs for 15 min and shuts down i get a code 33 (overheating)I change coolant,cap and thermostat also checked air flow Still no luck.any ideas anyone: This may sound stupid, but check the belt. Make sure it's actually on there. The Onan QD's sometimes throw a belt. I have seen them break too. Make sure that's on. You may have an internal water pump issue as well - impeller fell off, etc (rare but possible). Another issue could be a blocked radiator. If your radiator is blocked with sludge, you may not even know. I usually check various spots on the block, thermostat housing and radiator while running with a infrared temperature probe to see if it's actually getting hot BUT BE CAREFUL doing that because there's a risk of damaging your unit. That's actually a last resort thing. It may just be a bad high temp switch. But make sure everything else is right first. Full radiator, belt, t-stat (you already did). Oh, I just thought - make sure you have the right temp t-stat in there. The one I have in the shop (1997 7.5 Kw HDKAJ Spec D) takes a 71 Degree C (160 degree F) one. Anything higher will set off the high temp system I believe.

Q:I recently had solar Pannels installed. The panels generate enough electricity to power my house during the day. I use a 20kw silent diesel generator to power my house at night. I really hate my power provider PGE. If i tell them to shut off my power, Will they remove that tacky smart meter from my property?: If you don't pay your electric bill, they'll come and take away the meter. No, if you don't have electric service they don't want you to have a meter.

Q:Can you estimate the amount each year in CA.?What are the concerns/issues related to this application.: many years ago, when Bank of America needed such, the choice was between diesel or jet turbine. the money was about the same. the needed load was better met by diesel at that time. diesel and turbine fuel storage does not run the risk of leaking. in addition, the generators are used several times a year, during periods of high demand, as requested by PGE, for which the bank gets a reduced rate on it's electricity all year round. after the Loma Prieta quake, the bank came within 6 hours of running out of fuel for the generators.

Q:Every time i go to the pawn shop i always end up craping my pants. I crap em so hard that i got to leave to change and come right backnext time i best bring a diaper because the pawn shop always does it to me. Everything is pretty much stolen and new so i get 50% off pawn price because they know me for years.The last time i craped my pants was when i got this really nice 2000$ diesel generator for 400$ and BAM!Didn't even feel it coming, reached in my pocket to count my cash and the next thing i knew was i got a landslide running down my leg filling up my work boot. Q:I'm a student majoring in Architecture one of my class, Building Utilities, needs me to survey a high rise building. In my team, we divided the parts bc there are so many and one of my job is to electricity. Can someone explain to me the meaning of phase, R.P.M, power factor, and (especially) their respective units/numbers from this picture: 'Phase' has no units: it is merely a number, in this case 3. It is the number of different live supplies coming out of the generator. On the blue label in your picture, to the right of the word PHASE there is a small clear panel. The 3 followed by a greek letter 'phi' is the number of phases. Then there is '4 W'. This tells you that the generator is wired in 'star' layout with a total of four wires. Three carry the live supplies and one is a neutral wire. Your building will have a lot of wall outlets and some heavy loads; for example, the motors for the elevators. The wall outlets are single phase, connected to only one of the phases from the generator. Heavy loads are often connected to all three phases. 'R.P.M'. is revolutions per minute , which means 'how many times the rotating part of the generator rotates in one minute'. 'Power factor' again has no units. An explanation of what it is? I'll come back to that later (or someone else can) .

Q:and diesel generator and ATS that switches between two electrical sources ??: There may be no difference. It will depend on the application. For example, if I specified an ATS that had the proper voltage and current capacities, the only other item of concern would be to determine if the transfer would be a make before break or a break before make type of transfer. In a make before break, it would mean the sources would be placed into parallel operating condition before one of the sources was interrupted. This would require the ability to synchronize the sources. Which means the frequency, voltage and phase relationship of the sources must match before they are placed into parallel service. On a break before make switch, usually only phase rotation and approximate voltage levels are of concern. Hope this helps, Newton1Law

Q:If hydrogen is actually costing 6 to 15 times the energy to manufacture, will cost trillions to provide the infrastructure, then why are so many trying to push it? If battery powered vehicles (full electrics) are only able to get 20 to 75 miles per charge, why do we like them? Personally I like the idea of the new clean diesel engines being provided, and mated with hybrid technology. Pros? Diesel fuel infrastructure is already in place, only needs a little expansion. Hybrid tech is already showing itself to be superior to hydrogen in durability, and in cost savings. Cons - I dont really see them modern diesels are cleaner, quieter and more powerful than ever. Hybrids, especially with the American mindset of GO GO GO are showing they can go and save fuel. Tell me some of your ideas and thoughts on this topic. Enjoy: Go okorder

Q:Hi everybody. well I buyed a welding machine, and I need a portable generator for use the welding machine, but I dont know the generator capacity to use it, if the welding machine is 50 to 250 amps, but I just use from 100 to 200 amps, Can I use a 6000 watss Generator? or I need more power?: Look on the welder spec plate it should be rated in amps. it needs to run watts amps, X volts from a old timer

Q:can they be quiet? I was thinking about buying one sense we seem to have an outage every winter. Just wouldn't want to have an extremely loud generator running disturbing the neighbors: diesel generator normally make huge noise if you want to less this sound then use a soundproof diesel generator.
