- Q:How much carbon does the average diesel-powered (not hybrid or diesel-electric) freight train engine emit per ton-mile?
- no expert on the rail industry but i dont believe any US company uses a strictly diesel freight train any more. they have all been diesel electric for awhile now. as far as carbon they should still be lower than a comparable amount of semi's
- Q:I am trying to use a marine deep cycle battery and power inverter to power a chest freezer in an ice cream truck. The issue is that the marine battery will drain in a few hours. I was told told that I could connect the inverter to the car battery as well as the marine battery and while the engine is running, the car battery would be charge the marine battery through the inverter. Can anyone tell me how this works and how I should do the wiring?thanks
- Just run heavy gage wire from one battery to the other, pos to pos neg to neg, no big deal, however your alternator ain't gonna like working that hard and will go see Allah in a very short period of time, so a high output alt will be needed sooner rather than later, and with the price of gas and seeing the shape some of those ice cream trucks are in, I see a lot of melted ice cream in your future. maybe a small generator would be more cost effective. almost forgot. if the wattage output of your inverter is not enough to power a freezer,which take quite a bit, you'll smoke the motor out of your freezer in a matter of days if not hours. yea lots of melted ice cream

- In diesel power plant the power is produced by a Diesel Engine. The diesel engine used may be 2 stroke or four stroke It is used only for small amount of power production Working: Diesel engine is coupled with generators or alternator for generating electricity
- Q:i.e a house or a hospital.
- Gasoline or diesel. You can buy small generators for this. Average home would use a 2 kW typically, a 5kW if there is lots of AC and other large loads. But a hospital requires a much larger generator, and also a lot more reliablility, as well as automatic switchover. .
- Q:Can any anyone help me with this. The generator is a brushless, air-cooled diesel generator without AVR. It is kinda old and it's made from Japan. The manufacturer is Yanmar.
- Open up the end of the generator and check the capacitor. It may need to be replaced. You may also have to flash the field if it hasn't been used for some time. Try one of these techniques 1. Plug the electric drill into the generator receptacle. If the drill is reversible, move the direction switch to the forward position. Start the engine. While depressing the trigger on the drill, spin the drill chuck in reverse direction. This will excite the field and the generator will now produce electricity. If spinning the chuck one direction does not work, try spinning the chuck in the other direction as you may have the reverse switch positioned backwards. Use caution not to get your hand or other materials caught in the chuck. As soon as the field is excited, the generator will produce power and the drill will turn on. 2. If the engine is working fine, but there is no output voltage try this trick. It may work on standard alternator type generators, but not on those which use an inverter. It worked for me in the past, but try at your own risk. First check to ensure that all circuit breakers and fuses are ok. Shut off the engine and remove any cords from the generator. Plug in a cord with bare wires on the other end to one of the 120VAC outlets. Connect one end of the cord to a car battery. Very quickly touch the other wire to the other battery terminal. Do not leave it there longer than to create a few sparks or you may destroy the windings. If the residual magnetism in the alternator had weakened, this may be enough to get it started again.
- Q:I planned that the factory be fully mechanised. Public power supply is very poor. I wanted to purchase diesel generators but i have been advised by a friend that solar generators are more cost effective. Is solar a good source of energy to power such a factory?
- Yes, it can be fully solar. Very power comsuming factories are autonomous. If you dont find how to, if you want e-mail me and i will put you in touch with some companies. For your info, some companies not only are autonomous, they resell power while they dont use it.

- This electrical specification describes some aspects of the electrical distribution system for a block of flats (apartment building in USA terms). A 3 phase power supply is 3 live wires and a neutral with 400 volts or so between any two live wires and 230 volts or so between any live wire and the neutral. Each flat would be connected to one live wire and neutral. A change over switch is a switch that can switch the load from one power source to another. It could switch between two mains connections from the power company or it could switch between the power company mains and a standby diesel generator set. An RMU transformer is a ring main unit transformer. The transformer would be the step down or substation transformer from the transmission line voltage to the 400 volt level. There would probably be one transformer for all of the flats, possibly two if there are two mains connections from the power company. The RMU designation indicates that the transformer includes additional components such as the change over switch and main circuit breaker as a single piece of equipment. Advanced features might include such things as transformer temperature monitoring, load monitoring, and remote indication provisions. Unless the features are enumerated, it isn't a particularly useful description. It may or may not include features in addition to the minimum required by government regulations. If you are purchasing only an individual flat, this might offer some assurance that the electrical system is modern and reliable, but it is a very poor description to offer prospective purchasers of individual flats.

- A. It actually should be Chalk River Canada that is where the atomic research centre is , not Ottawa.They had 2 accidents one in 1952 and another in 1958. The first was a partial meltdown due to lack of cooling , the 2nd was an explosion, contaminating millions of gallons of water in the basement of the facility. 600 military personnel from Canada and USA where involved in the cleanup. Officially nobody died from the accident or health side effects after which is suspicious I would think. Having said this Chernobyl I believe is the worst disaster since it was a complete meltdown of the reactor and many people died then and to this day because of the decontaminated region.
- Q:HelloI am doing a question on my homework and im being asked to determine how long a tank of gas on a diesel generator would last a family if one tank produced 20kW of electricity. This family uses 2.052kWh of electricity every day. The problem i have run into is that i don't know how to determine how long tha tank can last with only those values, i have a feeling im missing something very obvious here. Any help would be great.Thanks!
- You can't quite do this from first principals. The Gen-set manual may give a spec for fuel consumption, or for efficiency. More likely it does not. The solution is to fill the tank, run it on a dummy load or a real load, if you like, and see how long it takes to get to half way. Or some graduated point. I wouldn't run a diesel dry, as they tend to continue to run on their lubricant until they seize up. Much as I like to model and estimate things, I'm still an empiricist at heart. Jim Jarvis
