FAQ
- Hi -- could someone please give me information on how much I should expect to pay for a water pump and to cleanse my coolant system (or something like that) or if it's something I really need to do. Or if I can get the water pump without the coolant system...My car is running fine, just started making kind of a rough running sound a few weeks ago when it's idling. ANY advice is greatly appreciated!
- Like the answerers above me the Water Pump and Coolant wouldn't have anything to do with your car idling roughly. The cooling system's job is to maintain all internal engine components at a level, stable tempature. The water pump is resposible for keeping the flow of coolant throught the engine block If your car was was running low on coolant, or the water pump stopped working, the engine temperature would increase, increasing the risk of engine oil breakdown and blowing a head gasket. Rough Engine idling could be diagnosed simply as a throttle bottle cable that needs to be adjusted (adjust to increase or decrease engline idle) or a vacuum hose that is loose/leaking (rubber lines that run from the engine's intake). These would be the first things I would inspect and it is very simple.
- i have a water leak near the water pump in my 1990 cadillac deville i replaced the water pump but it was remanufactured and a pipe on the back of the water pump can it be a heater core or should i buy a brand new one p.s. water leaks after it passes the radiator
- this is why I do not buy remanufactured pumps, it is best to buy a new water pump if you can, it will last the lifetime of the car pretty much, remanufactured for what ever reason the water pumps just did not do the job, and I know my mechanic got tired of putting one on, only to have to take it off because it leaked, make sure the water pump is the problem though.
- What does the lift of a pump mean?
- The pump lifts water from the surface to the highest point, such as a submersible pump working below the surface of the water. The pump head is still applied to the water level, not the water pump.
- My truck has been over heating, and I cant figure out whats going on...the only thing that gets really hot is the upper radiator hose, and the radiator....I just noticed there was a plug unhooked from the water pump, what does that do? Or maybe it could be the thermostat? It just overheats, and when I park it, it wont start half the time, usually I can let it cool off and go, but sometimes it just dies and I have to let it cool off and jump it off.
- I doubt its your water pump. That plug may have been just the temperature sensor. Definitely sounds like a bad thermostat. Replace it. They aren't expensive at all. Letting your truck over heat does serious irreversible damage to the engine. You may have significantly shortened the life of your engine already. Just replace the thermostat when the truck is COLD, never when its hot. If it still overheats with the replacement thermostat, your radiator may be clogged.
- I have never had to deal with this and I am probably worrying about nothing but every time I run water, even for a second, the pump starts clicking on and off. Is it supposed to do it with every little thing? Every time the toilet flushes, or the water gets turned on to wash hands it goes off and keeps constantly going off until the water is shut off. Is this what it's supposed to do?
- It sounds like your pressure tank has gone bad. Your pump in (short cycling). The blue or silver tank that you have with the pump may or may not have a bladder inside. That bladder is to keep pressure in the line so the pump does not start so often. There is water on one side and air on the other. Sometimes there may not be enough air pressure on the air side. This usually means that the bladder has failed. It also could be that the pressure switch has gone bad or that the low pressure point setting(pump on) and the high pressure point setting (pump off) are set to close together. You will need to have a plumber check this out as soon as possible. If the pump continues to short cycle it will burn the pump out. Good luck.
- Why does the water pump in the tank pull out the power supply and then plug it in?
- Unplug the power, pump into the water, exhaust air, and then connected to the power supply
- Im replacing the water pump in my 1992 toyota celica, and i cant get the pully off! i have been working hard for like an hour, i took the belts off. all i have is good old fashoned sockets and crescent wrenches. do i need to get the pully off? and is it lefty loosey and righty tighty or righty loosy lefty tighty?? because sometimes i hear they reverse it. thanks- jordan
- I think the water pump for this car is timing belt driven, and the pulley is part of the pump. Don't you have the new pump to look at? If it's not driven by the timing belt, then you remove the 4 bolts counter-clockwise, then the pulley should slide off.
