Q: We're having a pretty casual reception. It's at a hotel (Hilton), and we're having a band. It's a fun band; not the $10,000 wedding band I wanted (before I found out the price!). So, will it look too formal (out of place) to have chair covers w/ sashes? Otherwise, maybe just an overlay and nice centerpiece on the tables.
The chair covers and overlays are VERY formal. I would do the before picture. It will fit a more casual reception. The other will look very out of place. Your father is right.
Q: So I'm only in middle school, but I'm already studying college work from my private teacher. I skipped a whole wad of grades in music. I'm studying some serious stuff. Whenever I perform in front of people, I mess up. I practice about four hours everyday, and EVERY SINGLE TIME it's perfect. But I perform just once in front of people and I mess up. I don't think I'm scared about performing in front of people; I'm just worried about my placement. Anyway, my teacher told me I'm part of the 1/10 of the people he's ever taught, and that 1/10 is all the extremely gifted kids. I also play the piano, longer than I have than being a percussionist, and I have also skipped grades. Recently because of me being nervous, I got second chair. I am a complete music freak, so second chair is extremely horrible for me. And I’m even more depressed now. I’m already depressed about other things, and this is making it even worse. So now I feel extremely stupid for getting second chair…so…what should I do??!

Q: I recently got a job as a wheel chair assistant at the airport, and I am so excited! I begin training monday, but I wanted to know if there were any people experienced in it, that can tell me, how easy or hard it might be for me to catch on, and any tips on how to make my job better! Thanks
As my parents grew older, I helped both of them with wheel chairs. Working at the airport is a good choice, as you are out of a hospital setting and airports have great facilities for those in wheel chairs. Listen well to your supervisor and don't be shy about asking questions, even about the most tiny of things. For example: I was never told the little tricks like parking and locking the wheelchair when helping people in and out, as my supervisor had been doing it for so long, he just assumed that I already knew about those things. Ask about assistance if you have to lift a heavy person out of the chair. How do you ask for assistance from another employee? Actually walk the routes at the airport, even if you are alone. Some turns and ramps may be more difficult to use, or a corner causes the turn to be a tight squeeze for the wheelchair. As you help someone into or out of a wheel chair, make sure that their feet and legs are not blocked. Ask about the policy for holding or carrying a passenger's coat, bag or purse. Passengers dislike bumps and corners that are narrow and cause you to perhaps bump into them. And, often they will get a bit disruptive. Learn like a pro and act like a pro. Airports, for many, are already a bit hassle. Just think if you were restricted to a wheelchair, too. You would be tired, cranky and feel helpless as others just walk by you. Know how to help them in they need to visit the restroom. Finally, you need to be prepared as well. Make sure that you are using your arms, back and legs properly. One last tip, have you ever been in a wheelchair? If not, ask someone to push you around, especially with corners and such. This will help you to know exactly how it feels and you will learn a lot from the experience. I used to work for a hospital and take care of my parents. If your teacher is good, and if you know the territory and how to work the gear, you'll do great. It will be a fun job and you will truly enjoy helping people in need.
Q: If you have a chair that you just love to use for long hours in front of the computer I'd love for you to share it with me. ty
I love my chair. I spend hours in front of the computer, and it doesn't feel like it. This leather chair is well-padded, and is fully adjustable with a high back, headrest and armrests. It was very easy to put together, or if you live near a Staples store they will do it for you at a small additional cost. This is a hot price on this chair--save $100. I found another deal for the more budget-conscious. I haven't sat in this chair so I can't speak for how comfortable it is, but I thought I'd pass along the deal!
Q: I'm very recently very interested in the old abandoned ski areas. I was wondering if anyone knew of an old area where lifts are still up? or even if the chairs are set on the ground that would be ideal. I'm looking for old chairs to just really get a good sense of the old technology that was used on these old mountain/areas. I've had some great success with finding rope tows and Poma lifts, however chairlifts are hard to find really with chairs still attached! Any information would be great. Just a hint. I am NOT looking to take these. I have found old Poma Bars, T-Bars, and old rope tow handles and always abide by the rules of the area. I have taken ONE T-bar, and asked the mountains owner for permission to take it. I don't know how I could fit a chair in my little Ford Taurus either! Thanks in advance for anyone who will be giving information on an OLD mountain with some chairs attached or lying around!

Q: torture chair
a man built it because people have a craving to see other people in pain, it was used to torture.
Q: I can snowboard perfectly fine down the slopes, I have no problem with balance or turning or anything like that. But every single time I get off of a chair lift I eat s**t. I try and do everything the people tell me, I even got a grip on my board but my boots slips right off, and my board is shiny which again makes it super slippery. I have tried putting my foot against the back binding but again my foot just slips out of position as soon as my board touches down on the snow ramp thing.! In the end I had to ask the guy to stop the chair lift and let me off so I didnt injury myself some more. Please help we are going up again in a few weeks and I dont wanna stack every time. Thanks any help is appreciated.
your problem is you cant turn 1 footed, not that you cant get off the lift. what i suggest to all beginners is, place your foot on your board and brace it on your back binding like you have tried, take your back hand and put it on the chair as you stand up, keep your arm stiff. let the chair push you, it wont hit you i promise. and then coast STRAIGHT off the chair (unless someone is in your way) once you slow down and want to try to turn go ahead, or you can just coast to a stop. you dont need to turn right away getting off a chair unless someone/something is in your way. if you must turn remember to turn your shoulders, just like your making your normal turns. if it helps hold your arms out and point both in the direction you want to turn. also you can drag half your back foot off the uphill side, this will help your board flip around sideways.
Q: When I was in the Air Force I never just sat in a chair.
Hello 'Scared of nothing You know, I served 27 years in the Air Force and I never once heard anybody refer to themselves as being in the Chair Force. I toss out such belittling statements into the trash can. Every Air Force member is proud of the job that he or she does and was trained to do. People don't stand up all day marching from sun up to sun down. People do sit down during parts of their jobs! Every person in the Air Force has a valuable part in helping the Air Force fulfill its mission. The Air Force does not train people into a job that is unnecessary. Just don't listen to people who throw those 'buzz words' at you. Most of the time they do not know what they are talking about. A person's own integrity would not permit themselves to be lying down on the job. Thanks for the time you spend in the Air Force. I hope that you were able to use your skills in the civilian world. Best of luck and good health to you. Larry Smith SMSgt, USAF, (Ret.) First Sergeant
Q: A rocking chair has two points of contact with the ground, with all of the mass of the chair above those two points. So does a bicycle. Why does a bicycle fall over, but a rocking chair does not?Sorry, not a physics guy, but was asked this question by young child and am hoping that smart people can explain this to me. Thx for not flaming! ;-)
Hello Jeremy. The rocking chair has a design which is more stable, because 1) the rocks are fixed to the chair 2) the weight is better distributed, towards the center of gravity 3) if we push the rockin chair in one direction, it tends to go back by bouncing The bicycle is dinamically stable only in movement, by an effect of spinning as a gyroscope. 1) When stopped the front wheel can move in two axis causing lack of stability 2) The back wheel can rotate forward causing lack of stability 3) Teh weight of the bibycle in accomodated in one line (between 2 points). For greater stability we need at least 3 points to accomodate weight with stability. In the rocking chair we can considere it as having 4 points of contact. Greetings from Mexico. Javier P.D.
Q: Do people still do this? As a teacher, sometimes the little 2nd graders can be loud and disruptive and can't quiet down. Do you like the quiet chair method? If not, what method do you use. As an example, this morning as I was teaching a lesson, a girl was constantly whispering to her friend so I simply said Mia, will you please go sit in the quiet chair? Not saying it doesn't work, but should I update my method?
Time outs are used frequently and are probably the easiest way to solve the problem. I agree with Lily that the first step might be to separate students who can't leave each other alone, but if that fails the quiet chair is a good option. The child can still observe the lesson but can't really bother anyone else. I think the VERY first step should be a seating chart. You should know by now which pairs or small groups don't work well, and make sure that they don't get the chance to act out. Sitting with friends is a privilege that has to be earned in my classes.
