- There are no specific college courses that would necessarily spot you as more appealing. You would be coming on board as an independent, straight commission agent. As is typical in most straight commission, sales positions, attitude and compliance to company policy bears a stronger role than one's academic record. Naturally, your license is the number one requirement. That said, your best source for direction in obtaining the required courses is the real estate commission. Every state has their own official real estate commission website. Within that website there is section on education. To find your state's official website, go to one of your search engines and input for example: real estate commission for Texas (or whatever state you plan to become a real estate agent). That should take you to the 'official' RE commission website that will also spell out the licensing requirements needed for your state. If you had stated in what country or state you are in, I could have provided the Internet source for your state's RE commission. 'Hope the instructions given helps you. One word of caution: There are many websites that will offer online courses for real estate. If you pursue this direction, call your state's commission board first to verify their courses are approved by your board before signing up.

- Real Estate business could be many things, are you interested in selling/renting or property management, or owning real estate? All of the above are rewarding and challenging, depending on which area of real estate you are referring to. Selling and renting property could mean a work schedule that will vary from day to day. No 9-5 here. You are available when the client is. Getting to know what your selling/renting and your client will enable you to match people with places. Looking to own real estate? Becoming a landlord? Research the tenant/landlord laws for your state, you are the boss here, must make sure your properties follow the law or you could find yourself with huge legal bills and lots of time in court.

- It is always possible. Some real estate rookies come in and make huge sums of money. There are three things these people have: contacts, drive, and perseverance. The rule of thumb in any sales job is that it takes about six months to get a steady income. In real estate it can take years, but doesn't have to. I remember my first day as a real estate agent. Everyone told me it would take forever. I had floor that day and I had a contract in my hand before I left. I recommend, at least while you are getting started, that you have a secondary income. It is great if you are young and living with your parents, older with a pension, or if your spouse has a good job. If you are the sole bread winner, it can be tough. Make sure you have enough money in savings before you quit your job. Many real estate offices require that you pay them to work there. Make sure you are comfortable with your commission split. You can expect to see anything from a 50% commission split, but no office fees, to 100% commission split but you pay a large office fee. There will be many options in between. I could go on and on, but email me and I'll be happy to answer specific questions. Ultimately, your success or failure is dependent on how hard you are willing to work. If you want to learn how do really make it, find a job as a real estate assistant, once you get your license, it shouldn't be difficult. As an assistant, you will receive a paycheck while learning the ropes. What you learn in school is how to pass the test. But it doesn't teach you how to succeed.

- Education can only help. There are so many real estate agents in the world without a college education, and in many cases, it really shows. If you truly want to stand out and be successful in any business, it's important to have a strong understanding of business. If you don't want to go after a 4 year business degree, at least take as many classes at a Jr or Community college as you can. Really, this will make the difference out of being just another agent with no business, sales or interpersonal skills or being a mega agent that is well rounded and well educated to negotiate deals using other people's money!! - Real Estate agents are not licensed inspectors. Not sure what state you live in, but this is not the case in the state where I live in....and that is the case with every state I have done business in so I find it very weird that yours is different...are you sure you are not misreading your text? Don't confuse the responsibility of agents with the responsibility of the sellers...a HUGE difference. Agents are NOT legally responsible to find the defects...they are required to be disclosed by the seller...our state has the sellers fill out a buyer disclosure statement that has a list of very, very specific property condition questions. They are NOT required to disclose ANY defect that doesn't appear on that list. Sellers are also not held liable for conditions of the home that they are not aware of...ie. hidden defects. That is where a property inspection comes in...and if the buyer makes the choice not to have one, then that is their problem.
