There are 2 types of property, real and personal. Real property includes land (bare land, homes), personal property is everything else (cars, furniture, clothing, etc). Notice that a mobile home is considered personal property because it does not include land. A realtor is a licensed person who helps people buy and sell real estate. They receive a commission, usually a percentage of the sales price, for doing this. For a first time buyer, realtors are invaluable because they will explain the process, do the paperwork, and basically hold your hand through the entire process, which can be intimidating, especially for first time buyers. Since the fee is normally paid by the seller, it's a great deal for a buyer.

There is no need to go to college for that, invest your time in marketing or business administration. A brokerage doesnt broker homes. You employ real estate agents that pay a portion of their commission to you. They list the homes they want, doesn't matter if its a 20million dollar home or a 20k condo. Maybe you mean real estate agent? Focusing on more expensive homes? The problem there is finding the clients, if you came up in a wealthy social group it may be easier for you. Becoming a real estate agent is fairly easy and just requires classes and some fees. The brokerage requires you to be an agent for a few years first, more classes and licenses. I primarily do investments but I highly suggest spending a few years doing traditional real estate before stepping into this world. Whatever you may think of your mentor, if they are an agent working for prudential they are not that successful. The successful agents own their own brokerage and don't give a % of their income to a broker.

Consult your guidance department and your local real estate companies. Be aware that your accent may place you at a distinct disadvantage in New York

There are options available such as: * You can work at a new home site office. Developers need people to staff a new community and answer questions that the visitors may have. There may be limited opportunity for this in FL because of the current economic/new housing situation, but it may be worthwhile to investigate. You are paid hourly for this job. There are are staffing companies that can hire you for this job. * You can work in leases instead of selling. This can be done with your current license and the local MLS. * Jobs should be available at apartments; you could work as a manager or an associate. * You can probably diversify into commercial real estate and do the same thing as above i.e. leasing out commercial properties. * If you already have some experience, jobs should be available at corporations such as real estate developers, investment companies, and ancillary industries. You do not necessarily have to sell real estate in these jobs -- you could use your experience to get into areas such as marketing. Hope this helps. Hi Entyce68, A real estate license is not required to sell a house. However, it may be a good Idea to have that license if you plan to do more than 5 homes a year - that is the limit of houses you can sell without having a realtor list it. Having that license will allow you to sell the house and retain half of the commision. Unfortunately, the class is forty hours of wasted time - nothing but laws and nomenclature (names) they teach you absolutely nothing about buying or selling RE. Investing is a great way to learn RE and make large amounts of money doing it, always make the deal a win for all parties, be fair and honest, build your credibility and remember what RE is really about.
