Q:A hot pack foot warmer contains iron powder, water, salt, activated carbon and vermiculite. It is activated by exposing the contents to air. Hot packs are used by hunters and other outdoor sports enthusiasts and workers where access to heaters or fires is not possible. Is this process endothermic or exothermic? Explain.
Vermiculite is an absorbent. It retains water and slowly releases it as the soil dries. So to make it simple, vermiculite helps to maintain an even moisture level in the potting soil so that you would not have to check your plants every 12 hrs. for signs of drying out.
Q:I have a little leafy house plant, not exactly sure what it is, but there's something strange in it's soil. The plant came with just standard soil, none of the little white balls in it, and now there's white balls popping up left and right. I took one and cut it in half, and they're hard little things, but I don't want them to be something harmful to my plant.
Google vermiculite USA you'll get information where to get it from in the states
Q:Because I am running put of space to grow vegetables in the vegetable patch, I am thinking of growing more in broccoli boxes. I am also considering making a soil medium of half cheap potting soil and half garden soil (clay). Then I will add a hand-full of manure and bloodamp;bone. Will this be good for planting vegetables?Or do I need so expensive mixture e.g. vermiculite, coir, mushroom compost, vermicast, etc.?
No, you do not need an expensive mixture, and depending upon how thick your clay soil is, you might want to amend with something that will allow the soil to drain well while reducing compaction. Perlite would be a good option. You will, however, need to feed regularly, as any plants in containers will use up the available nutrients quickly. Since you'll probably be planting a variety of veggies, I would opt for an all-purpose vegetable food, like Neptune's Harvest or High-Yield. Enjoy your container garden. That's how I grow almost all of mine now!
Q:i have one male and one female green anole i know how they breed and lay eggs but i don‘t know how to take care of the eggsim just askin before they breed so im ready
The substrate should be 1:1 mass ratio medium to water. In the lab we use vermiculite with excellent success. If you want, you can incubate each egg independently in little baby food jars, or something similar. You do not have to incubate separately, but that way not all your eggs are in one basket so to speak. Place a layer of substrate at least the egg’s width in your container. When placing the eggs in the substrate make a divot with your finger then gently placing the egg in without rotating it. Rotating the egg can damage the fragile embryo. Close in the divot leaving half the egg exposed to the air. Finally place a lid or saran wrap secured with a rubber band over the top and incubate at 27C. Best of luck to you.
Q:my turtle has had 3 eggs ,how do i care for them
Very carefully remove the eggs. Pick them up the exact same way it was laid. Rotating the eggs can kill the developing turtle. Place the eggs into small containers halfway full with damp vermiculite. The containers with the eggs should then be placed in an incubator. The best way to provide a safe incubator container is to take a plastic aquarium and place two bricks on their side at the bottom. Place the plastic container that contains the eggs on top of the two bricks and heat the water 82oF (28oC) with an aquarium heater. Cover the aquarium with pane of glass to ensure the heat and condensation stays with the incubator. It is essential to make sure the glass is slanted so that any condensation does not drip onto the turtle eggs as this can kill the embryos. The ideal humidity level for turtle eggs is between 95-100%. You can measure the level of humidity with a hygrometer hung on the aquarium wall. To tell when the egg is fertilized, hold the egg between your thumb and forefinger in front of a bright light. If the egg is fertilized, you will be able to see dark blood vessels inside even at an early stage. As time goes by, the blood vessels will turn into a dark area as the turtle develops. Unfertilized eggs show a light area around the air pocket inside the egg and a dark area at the drying yolk. An unfertilized egg will also begin to lose weight over time whereas fertilized eggs gain weight. If a turtle embryo dries in the egg, do not assume it is a mistake you made. The likely cause is because of the parent's diet.
Q:where can I buy vermiculite in Chicago IL ???
Try a magnet for separating iron powder. Vermiculite is a light mineral that resembles the plastic foam peanuts used as some packing material. Add water, and the vermiculite might float to the top and you could filter it from the water with coffee pot filter paper.

Q:i got him in december but for the past two days he hasnt been opening his eyes and he is alive. he moves around and stuff.
good quewstion that is odd
Q:I have a pot of radish seeds to start in zone 10 and i‘ve read that peat moss was wonderful so I thought why not use all of it in the pot and get awesome radishes?. I thought it was the best idea, so I planted my seeds (and a baby tree) entirely in peat moss and added plant food (sea kelp). Was that a great idea?
No not a good idea. Peat is good when used with 1/3 peat, 1/3 compost and 1/3 vermiculite. so you planted a bunch of radish seeds and a tree in the same pot. You did not mention the size of the pot. You have over crowded. The radish will not have room to develop and the tree will rob young plants of moisture and nutrients. Seeds/seedling do not need nor will they benefit from fertilizer before they have 2 or 3 sets of true leaves. You have several issues - poor growing medium, over crowding and unnecessary fertilization. Sorry but it may be a good idea to start over. Radish is much better planted in the ground. If you must container plant get a few of those long narrow window box planters for your radish. Make a good soil mix as mentioned above or get all purpose potting soil. Plant your allow seed for every 2 square inches. Keep evenly moist and warm. Once the seeds germinate they need full sun 6 -8 hours per day. Do not over water or use plant saucers - take off the ones that come on the containers. That is a good way to get root rot. As for the tree identify it and you can get some help on how to plant and care for it. Good luck
