It is then reinstalled and a double check is done to make sure it is not going to leak. A large adjustable pliers is needed to take apart the fittings and then re tighten them. The P trap is a necessary part of the plumbing as it prevents sour gasses from coming up through the sink, the water in side, acts as a barrier.

This device is about two feet long and looks like a spring with a hook on the end. There will be instructions on the package but basically you just insert it into the drain and rotate. The hook on the end should loosen the clog or allow you to pull the clog out. If in doubt find a clerk and tell him/her what your problem is and ask for a recommendation. I would not try any of the liquid products that claim to dissolve clogs. Usually they do not work for me. If the sink auger does not work you can remove the p-trap under the sink and usually find something is stopping it up. It will be easy to unclog the trap once it has been removed. Q: I think it's from someone shaving in there. I don't know but it takes like 15 minutes for the thing to drain. It's driving me insane. I tried to unclog it with a butter knife but that didn't work It just made it worse.: It's most likely hair buildup that causes most of these clogs. The fix is easy, if you know what you are doing and have the tools, to remove the U-tube trap and clean it out. You can use Drano, or some other chemical product to do the job, and they often work well. If you have any TSP Cleaning powder, use that and a few pots or kettles of boiling water, that often does the trick. If you have a wire coat hanger, you can cut that, make a small hook, and try to remove the hair ball. Or go under the sink, and if you have a pop up sink unit, take it out, and pull up the pop up plug, as they tend to collect all that hair. Clean it, and put in back in place.
