- Q: I am looking for what the breeding season is for sandhill cranes?
- Mid-April to mid-June is breeding season for Florida Sandhill cranes lasts from December-June. For most other cranes, like those here in the midwestern U.S., the breeding season is March and April. I'm fortunate enough to live not too far from the Jasper Pulaski Fish and Wildlife Area where the Sandhill Cranes migrate every spring and fall. I always go to see this spectacular event.

- Assuming mechanical I suppose that is the size of the area of the two tracks on a crawler type crane. The tracks or treads are similar to those on a tank or bulldozer. One track covers a rectangle in contact with the ground. Both tracks are spread apart, parallel and form some kind of rectangular (length x width) base area for the crane.
- Q: I have these sand cranes that always come up to our house and we feed them bread they never were aggressive but now one certain one is getting more aggressive. We have a screened porch and they come up to it and there putting holes in it to get our attention and there making like a noise thats not that normal when they see us. The one certain one is getting more aggressive towards the other birds poking on the them and chasing them. There is a group of four and they always stay together. the other three arent as aggressive as the one. - Sounds like the aggressive is the Dominate male of the herd. I know you like to feed them but that's what started the problem. He is being Dom so he can get more food and be the first to eat. Once they figure out you're not going to feed them they will go back to behaving normal. These are cool to look at, even though they can get loud sometimes. Have you ever seen tourist feed sea-gulls at the beach. Locals don't do it. Sea Gulls will get as aggresive as the Sand Cranes and actually dive bomb people. Imagine what a Sand Crane can do being what 10 times the size

- They put a crane on the ground, and they build 5 stories, say. Then they put the crane on top of the 5th story, and build another 5 stories, then they put it on the 10th story and build 5 more, etc. Or it's hanging on the side of the building, moving upwards as the building rises.

- I believe that electric trains and subways use series motors when DC motors are used because the series motor has a torque vs. speed curve that provides high torque at low speed and low torque at high speed. Since power is equal to torque times speed, that is essentially a constant power mode of operation. I believe that mode is selected because it results in a smaller and less expensive complement of power delivery equipment and more efficient operation. Although it has been many years since DC motors were used extensively for cranes, I believe that series motors were used more than other types for the same reasons stated above. However, compound or separately excited motors may have been used for better speed and torque control at low speeds. Except for heater fans in vehicles, I don't believe DC motors have ever been used much for fans. Today, permanent magnet DC motors are used for all of the little motors in vehicles including the radiator fan that was formerly belt driven by the engine. A permanent magnet motor is like a separately excited motor or a shunt motor. The optimum DC motor for a fan would probably be a shunt motor because a fan requires increasing torque as speed increases. Today, computers are cooled by brushless DC motors.

- Your baby crane might have stepped on something, But this is nothing like malnutrition, From what ive learned the crane may have a joint dysfunction in the knee but this very common in cranes, I really think you should take an X-ray of the cranes legs because,(and the baby cranes feet will expand over time) This could get worse. This is more than likely a leg dysfunction. Hope this helps.

I have been on this whole internet thing for many years, have had pen friends back in the day and have many RT friends. I speak from experience here is what I am saying. You met a good guy here; just because the voice in your head doesn't match his own voice that's okay, that will come in time. Give him a chance, start out with a solid friendship. You can even say, we just met; I would like to get to know you first. You really can't legally date him (I guess depends on the state) until you are 18. Give it a couple of years, see how it goes.
