Q:I bought 12 x 12 ceramic tile from Lowe‘s branded as SURFACE SOURCE with a PEI rating 4. I bought each tile for $0.58 each. I want to use the tile for the kitchen, bathrooms, laundry room and living room. The tile was made in Mexico. I think the tile was being discontinued at Lowe‘s. Thus, I think that is why the price was so low. Did I make a mistake? The tile looks good and feels good so I do not see a problem with. I need an honest opinion.
It will not wear as long as more durable higher priced tile, but it will last for many, many years. By the time it needs replaced again you'll probably have moved or want to replace it anyway. So, no, I don't think that you made a mistake if it is installed correctly.
Q:I have laminate over plywood right now in a bathroom. I‘d like to peel that off and lay tile down. Do I need the cement board or can I just put the tiles right on the plywood? It would save a lot of time and energy if I can just lay the tiles on the existing wood.
If the laminate isn't peeling you can tile right over that. Sand with coarse sandpaper....clean with TSP.....prime with oil-based kilz-it. Let that dry and start tiling. Don't use a premixed adhesive and grout all in one. It won't stand up to the moisture. Get the correct thinset for the tiles you will be using.
Q:I want to lay tiles on my concrete driveway, is that possible. I don't want to hire the expert to demolish the concrete, pave it with gap sand and the usual stuffs. I know how to do indoor tiles layering, but wasn't sure regular tiles will hold up 3 tons of vehicle weighs. Anyone knows any other way. Thanks.
Regular tiles will not be able to handle the weight of a car. Even slate will crush under the weight of a car. Why do you want to tile your driveway? Why not try pavers, almost like brick, and they fit together you could use sand in between the cracks to set them. Or how about decoratice cement stamping? That looks nice as well. I have never seen tiles that could hold a car.... gl!
Q:My husband and I are going to try tiling the kitchen floor ourselves. Can someone please give me step by step instructions on how it should be done and also waht materials we will need. Also any pointers or tips are really apperciated. FYI: We will be using 18 inch porcilin tile.
the 1st factor is i'd desire to understand is this laminate glue or snap at the same time (do you desire to maintain this floor ?) in case you donot care that's a thank you to eliminate your laminate first of all determine which way the laminate is started out this provides you with a solid beginning factor. this would desire to easily fold up ward ____/ like that once you start up up you will desire to have the capacity to soak up thold laminate in one million hour. determine you eliminate all your wall base first., that's what holds down the laminate. After it is up you will would desire to confirm what style of underlayment is on the subfloor. the main person-friendly is durock in case you're putting down ceramic . despite if that's vinyl tiles then you would desire to apply luan (one million/4 thick use the comparable thickness for the durock). you will desire to degree you length and width of the floor magnificent chalk lines to confirm the place your beginning factor is ( you do this with the two style of floor).in case you like extra preparation e mailme.
Q:I have several boxes of wall tile and I would like to use some on a floor. Is this okay? What is the difference?
First, wall tiles are thinner than floor tiles. Because of gravity, wall tiles are made slightly thinner to make adherence to your wall easier. Wall tiles are also often more porous on their adhesive side than ceramic floor tiles, again for ease of installation. Ceramic floor tile on the other hand is made thicker for application to flat surfaces. It is also set with a different mixture of thinset mortar. You can find most styles of floor tile made for walls as well so that you can match your border to your floors. Consult with a ceramic floor tile specialist to see if they can find the style you are looking for in both ceramic floor tile and ceramic wall tile.
Q:Is there a site you know that would be helpful for this. I am going to be doingthe kitchen walls, no back splash from counter. Tile will start at counter go up to bottom of cabinets.I was thinking of using a regular tile then half way up putting a 6 inch strip of glass tile, they are smaller really add SPUNK! lol I need some pointers on doing it though. Or any tips you might have.THANKS!

Q:tile itself
if it's ceramic/porcelain, go to home depot. Rent a hilti jackhammer with 2 different bits (they'll know which ones to give you). one is a narrow chisel that pops the tiles up. the other is a wide blade that will remove thinset. sometimes the wide blade works good for removing the tile, also. whichever works best for YOU. They will explain how to use it. It is WAY easy to use and you will NOT regret it! You will want to plastic off areas that you are not removing tile completely, there will be dust. good luck! don't be cheap and buy the handscraper! you'll hate yourself.
Q:I am installing tile in a bathroom, hall, dinining room, and kitchen, and they all connect. Where should I center the tiles?
I would start the tiles along the longest wall to minimize the amount of cutting. I am assuming that you are talking about ceramic tile, but i would do the same with vinyl tiles.
Q:We live in Phoenix and have a tile roof; most likely concrete tile. One of the tile on the lower level roof has somehow gone missing and I am trying to find one to replace it with. I don‘t think HD and Lowes sell roof tiles and I have tried to look up in yellow pages and am only finding roofing contractors. Where do you think I can just go and buy one tile. I won‘t need an installer as I can do it myself as it is on the lower level roof that I can access with a small ladder. Also tile is the one at the bottom so I won‘t need to climb up on the roof either :) Only logical suggestions are appreciated.
HI, H.D. OR LOEWES MAY HAVE THEM . IF NOT, CHECK OTHER HARDWARE STORES OR ASK A CNTRACTOR OR ROOFER WHO USES THOSE TILES. A BUILDING SUPPLY CO, NOT H.D. OR LOEWES WOULD HAVE THEM FOR SURE.
Q:I have tiles in my house. The whole 1st story is tile. Their porcelain. My chihuahua stays downstairs all the time and I was wondering does the tile have any affect on her? The tiles get really cold.
lol.. all i can think of is the chikety chickety their little nails make on the tile.. so cute you might consider some area rugs or some runners in the halls just so they don't get cold feet.. but really it shouldn't be too much of a problem if you keep the house warm. Consider... if your feet don't get bothered by the tile then chances are neither does theirs
