- Q:It‘s been a while since I have done tile, but I remember we used to use sheetrock to cover the floor or for back splash wall, however I don‘t remember what it was used for. Is there special cases when you need to use it or do I need to use it every time? What is the purpose to use the sheetrock?Please help. Thanks.
- You never use a sheetrock to do tile. Only as a normal wall covering to be painted in a non wet area such as a back splash or a wainscot. Then that you can tile over. You may have used a product ( or one similar) called Denshield. This is a 1/2 special backer board you can use on floors and you work with it just like a sheet rock. because it was a light weight fiberglass impregnated gypsum board. Just like the 1/2 cement board you could use it on floors and wall where moisture is present and you installed it in a thinset bed of mortar prior to nailing it down. Sheet rock is a general term for dry wall, used for regular walls to be painted. Any questions you can e mail me through my avatar and check my qualifications there. GL

- Seriously bid is way too high especially if you did some of the work yourself...the paper you lay on the floor is cheap and tile is not that pricey for such a small area..even a master tile layer wont cost that much it can be done in under a day of work by one guy

- If the tiles are a really hard glaze then you could have them sand blasted there are plenty of businesses that can dry sand blast as long as the tiles are worth more than the cost of sand blasting
- Q:Hi, I`m planning a bathroom remodel soon, and I want to use the same floor tiles as before - they are beautiful! But I just can`t find them anywhere (we bought this house recently and the previous owner did the remodel, and we can`t get hold of him any more). If anyone recognizes them, I`d be really grateful if you could point me in the direction of where to find them. Thank you SO much!Further info: the tiles are a fraction under 4 square and are a kind of gray-based quartz or granite (not sure of the difference, sorry!) with flecks of aquamarine and blue that give it an overall pale blue hue. They sit between plain white tiles with the corners shaped to accept the smaller blue squares.I`ve looked in Lowes, Home Depot, Amazon and online but so far no luck :( !
- You will have to contact a company and request a catalog of their tiles that they manufacture. After a run of tiles are made the next run will not be the exact same to match. It's very possible that no manufacturing tile company is still making the tile. With the wear and glaze that the tile has it would be impossible to get a match. I suggest that you shop for tiles that will enhance and blend with what you have and you may even use hard wood and tile aquamarine color that will pull the color hue from your present tile. - Thickness has nothing to do wither they go on the walls or floors. Generally speaking floor tiles are thicker , but not always.. There are several factors in determining if a tile can be used on a flor or not. All tiles can be used on walls but not vise versa. Some determining factors that dictate if a tile can go on the floor is tinsel strength ( how much pressure it can take before breaking in a special test),scratch and slip resistance ..These are 3 of the main factors that tile must be rated in before they can be allowed to be used on a floor. - Q:I want to install Travertine tile to a fireplace surround. This would be travertine tile directly to sheetrock, painted with flat latex paint. This areawould never see moisture other than something the wet grout and sealer. Is this OK? Will the sheetrock hold the weight of the tiles? What prep is needed? Or am I asking for trouble?
- NO. You need to put cement board under the tile. You can buy 3 x 5 sheets that are 1/4 thick. If you put it directly onto the sheet rock they will fall off and/or crack. Do it right the first time
- Q:I have some stick on tile that has come loose in a small hall area at some rental property. can you just lift thme up re-glue them? They are still in great shape.
- yes. but not too tightly.. stick on tile does not stick that well. i speak from experience. if you had another new tile, it would be better but don't use gorilla glue or something that will not come up later. it does not take much to keep it in place.

- In constrution terms a square is 100 sq ft.But that's pretty much only used for roofs.I think what you need here is a measurement in square feet To get it just measure the floor both ways and multiply. I.e. If the room measures 10 Ft X 10 ft then you have 100 sq ft
