Q:can solar panels have glass between the panels and the sun?
Should be okay but you might lose a little power if the windows blocks infrared or ultraviolet light [which I believe they do]
Q:if I have a battery bank of of 6 L-6 Trojan batteries, 6V 390AH, wired in series parallel to give me 2V at 70AH (or 4,040WH) what kind of solar panels should I purchase assuming I have 8 hours of sunlight, a solar tracking system and I want to make sure I can fully recharge my batteries everyday if i use up all the power every night?i understand there are efficiency issues to consider which i have not calculated in yet. thanks.
Hi okorder /
Q:Can solar panels be used to power a data center?
Yes, solar panels can be used to power a data center. By installing a sufficient number of solar panels, the energy generated from sunlight can be harnessed and converted into electricity to power the data center's operations. However, the feasibility of solely relying on solar power depends on factors such as the size of the data center, energy requirements, geographical location, and sunlight availability. To ensure a consistent power supply, additional energy storage systems or backup sources may be needed.
Q:Rated in kilowatts, what is the maximum output of one 8 by 0 solar panel? Assume this solar panel is located at the equator for maximum sunlight.
The world record efficiency for a solar panel is about 42%. At the equator, you can get up to about 000W m^-2. The efficiency of commercial cells tends to range from 0-20%. They're almost all single junction cells, so will never exceed 3% efficiency. To work out your maximum power output, multiply 000 x efficiency (as a decimal) x area covered. So an 8m x 0m solar panel would be 80 square metres. At 5% efficiency its peak output would be 2000W or 2kW. Total energy output will be different, since it won't be maximum power output all the time. In fact, it will more likely generate something like 20% of its maximum theoretical output, since the Sun won't always be overhead (and sometimes it's night!). The 2kW panel above might have a mean output of 2.4kW, or 57.6kWh/day.
Q:I got a really great deal on 2 houses because they were fixer-uppers. I'm living in one and the other I'm renting out. However, the previous owner did everything himself in 950 95, so needless to say, things are not to todays standards. Both houses need rewiring (there are no ceiling lights, few outlets, and mine has two old fuse boxes and the other has a breaker box but it pops the breaker a lot). The only reason they are still functional is because both houses use natural gas for water and heat, so otherwise, they electrical work is getting us by, but who knows for how long. I thought that maybe instead of redoing the electric, that I could just add solar panels to compensate for the small electric boxes. Also, since I would have to hire electricians to do all the work, which would be more cost effective (not including the decrease in utilities since I don't pay the utilities in the rental anyways)?
No. solar panels would not solve your problems and are usually not cost effective. Solar panels will not help to compensate for undersized electrical service. You would still have to upgrade the existing service. Once that is done you should have no problems and all the electricity you need would come from your power company. Have an electrician come out and do an inspection and tell you what all needs upgrading. Solar panels would save you money on the monthly power bill but the cost to install them would be higher than your savings. If it made economic sense to have solar power then everybody would be doing it. That's why you see very few houses with solar panels on top.
Q:Can solar panels be damaged by hail or other flying debris?
Yes, solar panels can be damaged by hail or other flying debris. Hailstones, especially those larger in size, can potentially crack or shatter the glass surface of solar panels, impairing their function. Similarly, flying debris during storms or extreme weather conditions can also cause physical damage to solar panels, affecting their efficiency and performance. To mitigate these risks, solar panels are designed to withstand certain levels of impact, and some manufacturers even conduct rigorous testing to ensure their durability in harsh conditions.
Q:I need a solar panel for my laptop as i am going camping in the desert, and i need my laptop. There are two choices of solar panels, One is 0 watts and 2 V and maximum power current 0.56 amps. The other one is 2 watts, 2 V and no mention of current. My laptop plug says input 00-240V and .5A and then output 5V-5A. Which one should i get for my laptop. If there are other choices please tell me ill look them up on OKorder. Thanks
I'm afraid neither of these panels will do much for charging or running your laptop. If the power brick is supposed to emit 5 volts at 5 amps, that's 75 watts. Neither of those panels provides enough voltage and the power output is obviously far too small. The capabilities of solar power are vastly overestimated for small panels. Sunlight is limited to about kilowatt per square meter under ideal conditions (summer time, clear blue sky, for a few hours around noon in the US southwest). But consumer panels top out at about 5% efficiency, so your limit is 50 watts per square meter - in other words you would need about half a square meter, or about six square feet, of panel to provide 75 watts. And even under ideal conditions you will only get that much for a few hours each day. Also, the panel's voltage output is not regulated, so even if you find a panel that emits 5 volts (this would actually have to be made up of groups of 30 cells in series, as they emit half a volt each at most) you can't just connect the panel output into your laptop's DC in. You'd need a regulated DC-to-DC supply, and since that is not 00% efficient it will cost a bit of the power... now you need even more panel area. All in all, not really a practical thing to carry along on a camping trip.
Q:I've been thinking and I'd like to have solar panels installed on my roof at some point to help reduce our electricity consumption- but I live in IL and in the winter it frequently snows. Is there such a thing as heated solar panels so they don't get coated w/ice or snow? Are solar panels even a feasible option in IL? Thank you, Anna
My brother-in-law has 4 solar panels on his property. Each one is more that 4 times the size of a ping pong table and they automatically swing toward the brightest light (I.e., the sun). They generate electricity almost every day, unless it is very cloudy. He lives in Northern NJ, almost as far north as Chicago. They have been up for about 6 years and seem to be reliable. I'm not sure that a single static panel on your roof would generate enough to make it viable. But contact some people in your area to see how theirs are working out. Also contact your building inspector and electrical inspector to find out how to do the job 'to code'.
Q:I am doing a report about solar power and I need to know what determines the amount of electricity produced?example: exposure to sun, angle of panel, qualityplease tell me as much as you canmuch appreciated
irradiance in watts/meter^2 (000-800w/m^2 depending on air quality) COS of angle to the suns rays efficiency of the panels (usually about 5%) age of the panels(one dead cell can drop an entire panel from the array) how dirty are the panels (dust, bird poop, leaves, shading) efficiency of the inverter (usually about 90%) All of these factors affect the amount of electricity produced. One other consideration is that in areas of extreme hot and cold the band gap of the silicon is changed.
Q:I know the basics of how solar panels work. Solar panels convert sunlight into DC electricity which is stored in batteries which would need to be run through an inverter to convert it to household AC. But is there a way for the appliances to use the solar panels electricity FIRST and any additional power from the grid? Is that how it works or do they only run specific devices(water heater, pool pump, etc)?
You okorder /... Click on the box that says schematic to see how everything goes together. You need to talk to your electrical inspector to see what their requirements are for installation. You also need to have a net metering agreement with your electric company to connect to the grid. You are probably going to require a professional solar installer. Her's a list of NABCEP certified installers in your state. :)
