Q: I'm thinking of these solar panels that people have on their rooftops in domestic properties. I suppose I mean after how long do you break even with respect to just carrying on without them and getting you electricity from the utilities companies? Or answer in any way you think is pertinent. The more info the better.
Hi Warne, Payback period of solar panels depends on three main factors: ) Amount of solar radiation available: the more solar resource available at a site, the shorter the payback period will be. The insolation level is a function of latitude, cloudiness, elevation and some other factors. 2) Availability of grants, incentives and tax credits. Reducing the initial cash outlay is a great way to speed up profitability. For example, in the US, the 30% federal tax credit greatly reduces the payback period as it puts some of the cash back in your pocket in a short amount of time. Minimizing the initial cost has a big impact, since money in your pocket today is always worth more than money down the road. 3) Net metering or feed-in-tariff. If you are able to sell back your excess power, or all of the solar electricity to the grid, then you can also improve the payback period. Feed-in-tariffs are not very common in North America, but net metering is an option. Investing in energy efficiency measures (e.g., LED lights) at the same time as solar may help generate more excess power and help with the bottom line. There are some online calculators which may help you put all these together for a specific site. I'm including a link below.
Q: We want make solar panel for our home use. but we have no any right idea how we can make it. we want to make it with cheap prices.we also want to know the proper size of solar panel.where we can take help about making a solar panel
How to Make a Solar Panel – Everything You are Going to Need There are several things you’re going to need when making a homemade solar panel, some of the main components include: Solar Cells Wood Plate Soldering Iron Solder Tabbing Don’t worry; special tools are not required for this DIY ‘solar panel’ project, and you will probably have everything you need laying around the garage. Now let’s go over the recommended materials for a basic solar system: Plexiglas Solar Cells Screws Lumber Jones Plug Wire Diode Caulk Silicon Material
Q: Can solar panels be installed in areas with frequent power outages?
Yes, solar panels can be installed in areas with frequent power outages. In fact, solar panels can be a great solution for such areas as they generate electricity from sunlight, reducing dependency on the grid. With the addition of energy storage systems, solar panels can provide uninterrupted power supply during outages, making them a reliable and sustainable option.
Q: If a solar panel is a .5kW system, what length of time is it putting out that much power? Every hour?
I think it refers to the maximum power it is capable of. Of course, it won't really have this output because it's energy output (kWh) is dependent on it's energy input...
Q: Let's say I can buy solar panels for my business for $5,000 and my payback period is 8 years. Would it be correct to assume that my money is best spent elsewhere (such as paying down debt) if I am being charged an interest rate of 3.9%?
Solar panels don't financially make sense. PERIOD...at least not yet. They have a short life and the efficiency dies over time. IF you have the money then go for it, but if you have debt then financially you're probably better off paying off that debt. They're more of a luxury item than an investment.
Q: Would it be possible to use a lens or a mirror to focus light onto a solar panel in order to make in more efficient? And is something like this already being used? It was just a thought and I haven't spent much time on it, but I figured I'd ask.
yes it is being done. i've seen adds for such a system. on the other hand, if you had a 5 sq in Lens focused on a small cell, and a 5 sq in cell, they'd be about the same. in fact, the cell might be a bit better because (A) there wouldn't be any loss in the Lens, and (B) it might be that the solar cell would use some frequencies to which the Lens was opaque. in addition, the cost of solar cells is dropping, making the cost of the mirrors or lenses uneconomical by comparison.
Q: Can someone tell me the average savings you get PER solar panel installed? I do not have the money to invest in a bunch of them at once, so I am forced to buy one at a time, when I have the money. So how much can I expect to save after I buy the first one?
No matter what or how you do it it is best to get off coal and nukes. So it cost a little bit of money you are buying 30 years of electric. How much will you spend adding in cost of living increases over the next 30 years? Solar really is pretty cheap if you take the time to do the long term math. If you use your cost at to days rates it does seem like a lot. But if you do the math like in real life with 3.5% compounded cost of living increases per year and 6.5% fuel increases per year. Well, you pay a lot more renting power. One other thing to think about and Al Gore keeps pointing it out is, Will your off spring be alive in 50 years from now if you don't buy the solar panel? Kind of like not going to the doctor because you can't afford the bill. Well I would rather owe a bill to a doctor that I will have trouble paying then not be alive at all to try. If you don't have the money to jump in and go full blown Green you should buy a starter system. You can get a system that can be expanded to 3000 watts (enough to power an energy efficient home). Would cost you about $8000 USD to get started and then you could add three solar modules at a time till you get it up to the 3000 watt max. And even have backup power. Or you could just buy a 000 watt system for about the same price and just add 3 of them over the years. There are many ways to get started. The deal is everyone needs to get started even if it is a small system. If all 50 million homes in the USA would install a small 000 watt system with 4 hours of sun light a day. We would provide (000 watts times 4 hours times 365 days times 50 million homes) 29,000,000,000,000 watts not from coal or nuke plants per year. I wonder if that would help?
Q: Do solar panels require a battery for energy storage?
No, solar panels do not require a battery for energy storage. They can be directly connected to the electrical grid and the excess energy generated during the day can be fed back into the grid and used at night or during cloudy periods. However, batteries can be used to store the excess energy for later use, especially in off-grid systems or areas with unreliable grid access.
Q: Can solar panels be used for powering a wastewater treatment plant?
Yes, solar panels can be used to power a wastewater treatment plant. Solar energy is a sustainable and renewable source of power that can be harnessed to generate electricity for various applications, including wastewater treatment. By installing solar panels, the plant can reduce its reliance on conventional electricity sources and lower its carbon footprint. However, the feasibility of using solar panels for powering a wastewater treatment plant may depend on factors such as the plant's energy requirements, available space for solar panel installation, and local climate conditions.
Q: Well my dad has been into Solar panels for quite a while, his birthday is coming up and i want to get him a small minature one, so he can toy around with it and be able to use it as expirience for when he gets a bigger one. my dad has been doing ALOT of studying, and i've been looking online but idk what kinda kits to get so should i get a 0w kit, 5w kit, or 20w kit? which one would be best to fool around with and play with? thanks
Go with the 20W kit. Possibly he can get this going and light up a 5 watt bulb? Does he have an inverter? Sounds like fun! I may look into this later. I did notice that our interstate uses these small ones along the way for something. I have something more interesting; plans for a window solar panel box made out of most scrap items lying around. Just moved so have to unpack and find those plans! Anyway, have fun and hope your dad likes his kit.
