- Q: I am making curtain tie backs out of rope...if any of you have suggestions, please help. Mostly, however, I want to know 1) how to attach curtain tie backs (cloth or rope) to the wall, and 2) do you just leave the tie backs hanging on the wall out in the open while the curtains are shut? Wont it look weird? 3) Where on the wall should you attach the tiebacks...next to the window or a fair bit away?
- You could do this a couple of ways. You could just get window hardware that takes the place of a tieback, that matches your drapery hardware and the curtain/drape just hooks over that rather than using an actual tieback. To use your tieback, you need a hook that will hold the two ends. Depending on how you want the curtains/drapes to fall and the fullness of them will depend on where you put the hook - further out from the window if very full. Yes, generally you would just leave the tieback there, hanging out, until you use them again. Usually though, where you place the hook will allow the drapes/curtains to cover the tieback when not in use (as well as the hook).
- Q: I want to add color to my dining room by hanging curtains/drapes on the wall, is this a bad idea? My family keeps saying drapes are for windows, not the wall!
- I don't think that is a good idea, but to each her own. Maybe you can get framed art and then drape the framed art. You can also try wall vases and add your choice of dried flowers, pods, curly willow, wheat, etc. to them. There are so many options today. Go to Micheal's or a craft store in your area. There are tons of things to choose from.
- Q: I have very light orange (beigy orange) curtains tailored in traditional style (valence and sheer curtails and drapes with tie backs etc for a huge master bedroom with a cathedral ceiling. The bed rooms huge so I am not worried about it looking smaller when painted with dark colors. However will chochlate brown be too dark? too heavy? I personally LOVE lighter shades on the walls but I made a mistake and I now have to work with these light orange curtains.. so I am stuck! So my question is if I paint two opposite walls chochlate brown and the other warm beige and put these light orange curtains and buy a chochlate/beige (more beige less chochlate) comforter set.. will I be adding myself to the ugly house list?Any other color suggestions???/ Please help!!!
- I love orangy shades....especially the peach and pale coral shades. I also really like chocolate colors, like mocha. However, I'm concerned that with curtains that you describe as orange, that chocolate will make it look like a Halloween room. What about having the walls either a vanilla/champagne shade combined with a pale peach sherbet shade. You could use accents of mocha or coffee or cocoa. The curtains will then be pretty if the rest of the room is a bit more muted. You could also accent with either pillows or lampshades or paintings (large ones because your room is big) to hang on the wall.
- Q: Okay so have u seen where peoples wall with be all curtains like long ones that hit floor not like curtains but that thin looking kin of see through stuff but covers whole wall very cute if done right???
- In my client's bed room, we ran curtain rods the whole length at the ceiling line and then hung rod-pocket curtains on them for a gathered look. Is that what you mean? A second rod or weights at the bottom keep them tight.
- Q: its not infront of a window, so attaching to the frame is not a solution.i am hanging a family quilt using a curtain rod and these pincher hangers. the curtain rod screws into the walls. it came with little plastic anchors to put the screws in but if i try to put it in the wall crumbles. if i try to just screw it in the wall crumbles. can anyone offer advice. i can put small nails in the walls to hang pictures from but i dont think the rod and quilt would be supported by this.
- Plaster and lathe walls SUCK...but there are studs in there somewhere, they are harder to find, but they are there!! Here's how you find them... 1.)Look for an outlet or switch. Electrical boxes are usually anchored to studs. From the nearest outlet or switch, measure in 16-inch increments (the standard stud placement in most construction) toward the area you want to hang the rod. Test to see if you found the stud by drilling with a 1/16-inch bit and see if you get resistance. If it goes straight through the wall, measure again from the nearest electrical box, but try 24 inch increments, which is a less common standard. 2. Examine your baseboards. Unless the installers were drunk (or you were), the baseboards along your walls should be nailed to the studs. Even with putty and paint, if you get on the floor and look up close you’ll find tiny patches over the nail heads, revealing where your studs should be. Good luck and happy hunting!! Edit... NO!!! Pay no attention to that man below me. You cannot use drywall anchors on a plaster wall...the hole will just get bigger and bigger until it slips right out of the plaster. This is why they are called DRYWALL ANCHORS and not PLASTER ANCHORS!!
- Q: My counter tops are black and my cabinets are white which go all the way to the ceiling. My frig and my stove are also white. These are the curtains I want to buy.
- You could go with a light tan, or a deep yellow. If you go any other colour, then the curtains will look out of place. Even with the deep yellow, I am not sure if the curtains would match. It might be better to stick with a light tan colour, or match up the tan in the curtains by taking them in and having the paint store colour match them.
- Q: I have no tools so please also tell me what tools I need to do this. Not sure if I need to call a professional for this. However since I just have one window I wouldnt mind learning. Has anyone tried doing it yourself. any help will be appreciated.
- Much depends on the weight of the curtains and the span you are making. Also what you are fixing to, behind your wall covering. If you have a lighter weight curtain and don't want or need a pull type curtain, just buy the expanding rods to fit your window. They come with hangars and small nails. You can affix them to the woodwork around your window if that is your liking, or to the drywall just next to the woodwork. All you need is a hammer for this application. If you are going to install heavier curtains and rods that have the strings for pulling the curtains back, it is better to buy a small hand drill, a bit, and some expansion pieces. These are tapered plastic, about any size you want, and come with a screw already in them. You drill your hole, remove the screw and tap the plastic piece flush with the wall, then thread your screw through the curtain mount and on into the plastic piece. It sometimes takes two of these per side. Finally, if you are going heavy duty, wing nuts are the way to go. You will need a hand drill, a larger bit, and a screwdriver. You mark where your hole will be, drill it out, then thread the bolt through the rod mount, then the expansion wing nut, push the entire wing through the wall, and begin tightening it by pulling by hand back on the screw until it gets a bit tight. This means the wings on the other side have spread and are gripping the inside of the wall. You then just tighten up the bolt until it is firm and holds the rod in place. Just remember, this application is usually reserved for drywall, and sometimes plaster, but not into wood unless it is very thin on the other side of the wall (almost never since you would be going into the window framing itself). Ask at your hardware store. They will give you instructions and help you buy what you need at the most reasonable cost.
- Q: Glass curtain wall and stone angle how to close the mouth
- Glass curtain is the box, you can clear the box of aluminum stone edge;
- Q: I am in the lower level room of a duplex, and there is a cathedral ceiling above me, broken in half by the banister/split level. Its about 10 or 11 feet across, and 10 feet high. I just want a simple track to put a curtain up that is heavy velvet (like a stage curtain). So, there is no window involved.
- well it sounds like you have the curtain part taken care of. as for the track i suggest getting a long piece of wooden or metal curtain rod, or piece of rigid metal electrical conduit. many hardware stores will cut this to length for you. now to suspend it i would hang wire or chain down from the ceiling (use eye hooks and be sure that they are anchored into wood behind the wall material) and attach to your rod threw holes drilled in each end of it. i hope this helps out good luck, this is an excellent idea.
- Q: Ive attached a copy of my living room. Im trying to figure out what color curtains to hang. Ive removed one set of pillows and added teal pillows with the other set of pillows. What color curtains should I purchase??
- I would buy curtains that match the walls more, with perhaps a more golden color to it, to brighten it up a bit. I would also keep the blinds for privacy, and heat or cooling escape, and have the curtains swag over and both sides of the white blinds. If you have a paint sample of the color of the walls, and the teal with you when shopping for curtains, that would help you decide. But a golden/tan color would work the best.
