- Q: An air core is no core except air.
- The purpose of a core in a transformer is to ensure as much as possible of the flux from one winding links the other. Also, we want the core to have a very small reluctance, so that the magnetising inductance (sometimes refered to as the mutual inductance) is very large. If it isnt, the transformer will have a large magnetising current i.e. it behaves as a shunt low value inductance, we need this inductance to be very high. Even if the powdered stones in the tube had a low reluctance (maybe they have alot of iron oxides in them?), the problem is that still most of the magnetic circuit is through air, so there is still a high reluctance. You need a closed magnetic circuit with a low reluctance material, or else you will need a very large number of turns on the windings, and they will need to be arranged carefully, to keep the leakage inductance low (flux from one winding that doesnt link with the other...) But what is the application? For low frequency power transformers we want a low leakage reactance and a very high magnetising reactance. For other kinds of transformers we might want a high leakage reactance (say a transformer to be used as a welder, the leakage reactance acts like a series choke to limit the short circuit current...). For broadband high frequency transformers, we want as little leakage inductance as possible, where as low magnetising inductance is not a problem at these frequencies. So usually we make transformers for this application with the two windings as one side of a twisted pair cable, or coax cable, and then have an air core. So how good a transformer core is depends on its application!
- Q: I've seen these plastic things that you put on the toothpaste tube and you slide it up and you're able to get all the toothpaste out. Does anyone know what the names of these things are, I would like to purchase some. Thanks
- www.okorder /... Here are some! Toothpaste tube squeezers, wringers, and keys!
- Q: Are plastic tubes resistant to UV light?
- Yes, plastic tubes can be resistant to UV light depending on the type of plastic they are made from. Some plastics, such as PVC and acrylic, are more resistant to UV light and are commonly used for outdoor applications. However, other plastics, like polyethylene, can be more susceptible to UV degradation and may require additional UV stabilizers or coatings to enhance their resistance.
- Q: how we can design a simple total head tube ??
- A tube with an open ends and connected straight (at right angle) into the side of a pressure container like a pipe or a vessel is called a piezometer. Fluid will rise in the tube equivalent to the static pressure in the container. In a pipe the fluid will probably also be moving and so will have some dynamic energy. If the tube tip has been bent 90 deg. and inserted ( preferably to the center) so that active end is facing upstream, the impact of the moving fluid will convert to additional height of fluid in the tube so that the total head will be the sum of the static equivalent plus the velocity equivalent in feet or meters. That tube is sometimes called an impact tube. The best arrangement is to close the active end of the tube and drill a hole at 90 deg near the end. This allows for the straight tube to be more easily inserted through a small round opening with a sealing gland to stop leakage. This short part can be metal and a clear plastic or glass tube extension fitted to it. A Pitot tube is a combination of the two types of tube and is commonly utilized to measure velocity by subtracting the two heads. It is used in any fluid, water or air, open or contained. However, the Pitot like most other pressure devices usually employs a gage rather than open tubes. The open tubes will limit the amount of pressure to be measured because for each pound of measured pressure (psig), water will rise 2.31 feet.
- Q: Describe what is involved in using a plastic graft tube for dialysis?
- this showed up in gardening landscape, probably because of the word 'tubing'. Resubmit your question to 'health' category. If you still don't get an answer, google Kidney Foundation or try Mayo Clinic (term: Mayo Kidney Dialysis)
- Q: How durable are plastic tubes?
- Plastic tubes are generally quite durable, as they are resistant to moisture, chemicals, and corrosion. However, their durability can vary depending on the type and quality of plastic used.

- I remember The Tubes. Good tunes.
- Q: I need it for a science experiment. It has to be thin and bendy/flexible, and not that long.Don't get confused with PVC piping, that's like 10 feet long, what I need is basically the same length as a straw, except it has to be bendy all the way.Regular straws don't work because I need to bend it 3 times, and still have the air flow through, but when i bend it, it's really tight and doesn't work.I need something like those plastic straws on juice bottles that can bend where the drinking part is, except something like that all the way through. If anybody could tell me where to get it (I only need one but will buy it in packages if the price is not too large) , or link me the website of the product, it would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!
- I worked with 1/8 Plexiglas, and I cut it with my scroll saw. I needed to use ultra-fine saw teeth to do the job. Two problems happened. First, when the saw blade was set at too high a speed, it melted the Plexiglas. This also happened if I did not move the Plexiglas fast enough. I had to have the top vibration clamp fairly close to the Plexiglas to stop it from jumping up. Before I realized this was necessary, I split 2 pieces. My project was see through drawer fronts for merchandise display. I had to predrill the holes for the screws to mount the fronts into the wood sides. I used masking tape on the area that was to be drilled to protect the Plexiglas surface. I still had breakage. Next time I do a project of this type, I will use thicker acrylic.
- Q: This is for silver eagles, silver maple leafs, and silver rounds that i have stored in plastic coins tubes. I have been using cotton balls stuffed into the top to take up air space and prevent sliding around; but will this damage the silver?
- Cotton balls work fine, and won't damage the silver IF they are clean and you don't shake the tubes a lot. (Coin companies use cotton balls when shipping coins in tubes if needed.)
- Q: im looking for a place to buy a small piece of latex tubing maybe about a foot long. i checked local pharmacy and drug stores with no luck. any other suggestions?
- Try Lowe's or Home Depot. I used vinyl tubing from Lowe's to fix my sink. I think they sell latex tubing as well.
