Q: What is the efficiency of modern solar panels?
The efficiency of modern solar panels varies, but on average, it ranges from 15% to 20%. Some high-end panels can achieve efficiencies of up to 25%. However, it's important to note that the efficiency of solar panels is constantly improving as technology advances.
Q: Ok Im trying to power my room using solar panels and I've figure out that I need about 700 watts to do so, but I really only use my electronics at night. I was wondering if I could buy lets say a 200 watt solar panel and let it charge a battery all day would that work? I live in southern california so I dont have to worry to much about cloudy days. also any suggestions on where to buy a panel, inverter, charge regulator, and battery?
What you really need to calculate is your energy requirements, you are only stating your power requirements. Power (W) = how many watts of power are you using? Time (h) = how long are you going to use the power for? Energy requirement(Wh) = W * h take the answer to that equation and plug it into the exact same equation except substitute how much sunlight you get for h and then solve for W to find what you need in the way of a solar panel. Wattage of solar panel (W) = Energy requirement (Wh)/hour of sunlight per day (h) Now you know what wattage of solar panel you need. For the battery you use a different equation: Energy in the Battery(Wh) = Battery Voltage (V) * Current Capacity (Ah) Solving for Current Capacity: Ah = Wh / V This will tell you how big a battery you need, but you also need to be concerned about how much current it can source. For this you need to know what your peak power requirement is. Wmax = peak power requirement Max discharge current (Amax) = Wmax / Vmax Also you will need an inverter rated to Wmax as well.
Q: Hey guys :)Well I'm in the middle of doing my PSHCE coursework on sustainable energy, focusing on solar panels. I just wanted to ask you what your opinions are of them? Are they really worth it? Are they sustainable? Will they reduce our energy bills? Those sort of questions :)If you are interested in installing solar panels, please mention that, as it would be great! There's lots of information about them on this site ----
Bing solar power in Germany. Solar power has an option of assisting in removing some of the burden during daylight, from power generation plants. Anything is a help. Plus they will continue to do it forever (at least a lifetime). But they are not the total answer. Like wind, limited to certain areas. Wave generation is another solution, but still limited to coastal areas. The current design of most supply grids does not allow transportation of power long distances. You want a real eye opener, Bing transportation line looses power grid and see how much energy is wasted, and the amount of carbon put into the air for these losses.
Q: I have a 2 volt deep cylce Everstart battery with 845 cranking amps, and a Grape Solar GS-S-250-Fab5 250-Watt Monocrystalline Solar Panel . I use them to power a 48Flat screen TV, a Roku, my 65 watt consuming MacBook Pro, and a 65 watt Fan.I know from previous experience that just the battery, an inverter, and the fan, that the fan will blow for 0 hours straight.Should I really be concerned with a Charge Controller?
Should I really be concerned with a Charge Controller? Yes. The main purpose of the charge controller is to protect the battery from over charging. Over charging reduces battery life. And spending extra money for a MPPT type controller will get more more useable power out of your solar panel. Would another battery of the same magnitude be helpful in preventing an accident? How much storage capacity does your current battery have (measured in kWH)? A ~$20 Kill-a-Watt meter would take a lot of uncertainty out of how much power you actually use. Even deep cycle batteries suffer reduced battery life from deep discharges. The battery sounds too small for the loads you describe so I would think you would want more. ---------------------------------------... After reading the other answer In a nutshell, with your small 2 volt starting battery, 24 volt panel and a mix of unknown loads, (which is correct), I thought I would elaborate. I had not considered the possibility that you bought a 24 volt panel for your 2 volt battery. Hooking the panel you bought directly to the current battery is a horrible idea. I you were lucky it would just cook the battery in a short period of time. You basically bought the wrong type of panel for a 2 volt system. I assume that there are no controllers on the the market for this situation. If that's the case, I don't know of any good way match the 24v panel to the 2 volt battery.
Q: can this amount of solar charge these batteries.
Wow I think that your battery are too big or in othercase your solar system panels are too small. But making some calcs if you connect your panels in parallel you will have 30 Amps of Recharge for your batteries. Assuming that your batteries are discharged to .75 V/C you will need at least (. x Ah removed)/Recharge Amps = (. x 550Ah)/30A, that means that you will need 20 Hours to recharge your batteries Literally this is imposible to have fully charged your batteries for a proper application you will need 65 Amps from your panels to recharge your batts in 4 hours or de-rate your batteries to 00 Ah
Q: my solar panel is 5v 50 mA, and im making iphone USB charger so i need to connect + with 00 ohm resister and to data - and + so what resister will be okay..?
Just connect the 5 volts out of the panel directly to the iphone via an USB connector. BUT, is the panel output always 5 volts, ±0.25 volts? Because that is the USB specification, and anything outside of those values could damage your iphone. And solar panels are known for their wide swings in voltage. Bottom line, resistor not needed, and you need to be positive you supply the correct voltage to the iphone. Best way to do that is to start with a solar panel that puts out at least 7 volts and use a LM7805 regulator. The only resistors needed are those to tie the data lines into a certain combination of resistance and voltage so that the iphone is fooled into thinking that a proper USB is connected. That would NOT involve a 00 ohm resistor. Search online for the proper values and connections. edit: are you repeating your same inane question with a different account? That is totally against the rules and could get you suspended.
Q: Can solar panels be installed on restaurants or hotels?
Yes, solar panels can be installed on restaurants or hotels. In fact, many restaurants and hotels are increasingly opting for solar panel installations to reduce their carbon footprint and energy costs. Installing solar panels on these establishments can help generate clean and renewable energy, making them more sustainable while also potentially providing long-term cost savings.
Q: Are solar panels safe for the environment?
Yes, solar panels are safe for the environment. They generate clean and renewable energy by converting sunlight into electricity, resulting in no harmful emissions or pollution. Additionally, solar panels do not deplete natural resources and have a minimal impact on ecosystems when properly installed and maintained.
Q: Can solar panels be used for powering a wastewater treatment plant?
Yes, solar panels can be used to power a wastewater treatment plant. Solar energy is a sustainable and renewable source of power that can be harnessed to generate electricity for various applications, including wastewater treatment. By installing solar panels, the plant can reduce its reliance on conventional electricity sources and lower its carbon footprint. However, the feasibility of using solar panels for powering a wastewater treatment plant may depend on factors such as the plant's energy requirements, available space for solar panel installation, and local climate conditions.
Q: i wanted to buy solar panels but this guy told me one will just power one light bulb what i want to know is how much thay cost and is it true tat if more power leaves your house than goes in the power company has to send u a cheek
