Q:Chinese Creations : Steel?
Steel is created in a primitive way whenever iron oxide ore (red dirt) is mixed with wood and burned. Seemingly everyone has a pet theory how their own selected country was the first to notice and do it on purpose. Regards, Larry.
Q:Why is steel denser than wood?
Steel is basically a mixture (not the compound) of iron and carbon. Iron, by itself is an element and so is carbon. The atoms of Iron are larger in size compared to carbon. All the atoms of all the elements, smaller or larger, are spherical. If naturally a solid, the atoms of all such elements have voids as their atoms are closely packed. You can imagine a basket of oranges; you could see that void or empty space (which I am speaking about) between four or more of the oranges put together. Now, when heated to more than about 1500 degrees celcius, Iron melts and atoms in molten form increase space between themselves. Raising the teperature to 1800 degree celcius, carbon is mixed with iron. At this stage it causes the spherical carbon atoms to fill in the spaces present amongst the spherical atoms of the iron. On cooling, already dense iron becomes denser because no space is left there between its atoms. This denser form of iron + carbon has become steel in which carbon is not more than 3 to 4% of the total volume. Wood is nothing but a fallen and dried tree's part. When green and alive, tree's stem and branches have pores in there texture, which are fillled with water and other biological fluids necessary for the life of the plant. When dried all the fluids, especially water gets evaporated. and the pore are empty now. The term Density, means mass divided by volume (kg / cubic meters). Iron + Carbon (the steel) so tightly packed and Iron having very high atomic weight is surely denser than wood with just carbon and a few other elements with no significant role to play in the mass calculation; particularly if their are empty pore spaces filled with air only. Imagine the mass (which common people mistakingly call the weight) in kilograms of a peice of steel with dimensions of 1 meter cube and imagine the same for the dried wood. What do you think---which one is denser?
Q:What is better carbon steel or stainless steel for a knife?
It depends on what your husband plans to do with the knife. In general, stainless steel knives are more resistant to rust and corrosion but carbon steel knives hold a sharp edge for longer. Those are only general statements, because high carbon knives can be coated to resist rust, and some high quality stainless steel knives can hold a great edge. There are many different metal alloys used for knives, and each one has its own properties. If I were you, I would buy a high carbon steel knife, unless you think your husband would use the knife under conditions that might make it rust (fishing or boating, for example).
Q:what material could replace iron or steel?
Iron and steel has, in lots of cases, been replaced by Aluminium and its alloys. Titanium and composite (Carbon reinforced resin) materials are also used where weight saving and non bending strength is required. Many of these types of materials are expensive and as iron ore is readily available it will be some time before it is replaced on a wide basis. Many other materials are not good where higher temperatures are concerned however there is an increasing use of ceramics being used for say stove tops. Hope this helps.
Q:is alloy steel is same with stainless steel?
Is Stainless Steel An Alloy
Q:what effect does reducing the carbon content have on the properties of steel?
decreasing the carbon content fabric will strengthen the ductility, which will make it greater versatile. Carbon in metallic varieties brittle cementite (iron carbide) which will strengthen the hardness and capability of metallic.
Q:Titanium vs Surgical Steel in Earrings?
Implant grade titanium is much better than surgical steel. The nickel content in it (which is what alot of people are allergic to) is virtually non-existant. Though most people with a nickel allergy are fine with surgical steel too, its too small for most people to react to. But the odd few people do. Its the same with everything. Good surgical steel is probably better than cheap titanium. But implant grade ti will beat it hands down. And ti is alot stronger, and is also used in surgical impants and as replacement bits too. But a big lump of titanium hip is going to be expensive. If you're not allergic to steel, theres little reason for the extra cost, especially if it's likely to outlive you. Niobium has no nickel in at all. But that really is expensive, and I've never seen any threaded. Any particular reason why you ask? ----- Piercing-wise titanium will be better than steel. Unless they carry some not so great ti. You should be fine with steel though.
Q:Is steel industry good for investing currently ?
To be blunt, with the Environmental-Terrorists like Green Peace and The Sierra Club making it basically impossible for Steel Production in the US to be a profitable industry, you are better off investing in Chinese Steel Companies than American. Same goes for Electricity Production and Petroleum Refining... These Environmental Terrorist Organizations and their misguided leftist followers have made it impossible to build new refineries in the US, which is why the price of Diesel Fuel is so much higher than unleaded, which is not only insane since Diesel Fuel actually requires LESS processing to be a viable product but also because our Transportation Industry as a whole relies upon Diesel Fuel to get everything in your home and office from manufacturer to store. By keeping the Energy Industry held hostage to these irresponsible and, to be blunt, insane laws, they have caused a rise in the price of EVERYTHING sold in the United States... From a deck of cards to homes. If we were not basically banned from building new Nuclear Reactors, we could cut our dependance on Coal by at least half... Anything having to do with any industry that could even potentially do with Pollution, regardless of how far advanced the technology has advanced away from that, it is restricted by Eco-Terrorists and mindless sheep that spend too much time listening to propaganda rather than fact checking what their Masters spoon feed them.
Q:What is the difference between steel and fiberglass entry doors?
Fiberglass doors insulate better than the steel doors and they do not dent or rust. Go with fiberglass.
Q:What is the history of steel?
There's wide history of steel, you can read different tutorials online to know more about it. Check wiki for detailed information.
