Q:Just wanted an idea. We are looking to redo all of our bathroom countertops from tile to granite. I cant decide if I like the above the counter sinks or to place the sink below the countertop. Below is much more expensive. About $200 per cut. Anyway, any suggestions? Thank you.

My wife and I recently remodeled our bathroom with granite tile countertops. We went with square, top mounted sinks for more of an older look. Personally, I don't like the undermounts with granite or sold surface. It's just something about the way they treat the edges and rim that takes something away from the character of the sink and makes me think of a hotel bathroom. Also, the top mounts have a more detailed edge and rim so I just think it looks a little nicer. It's all just personal preference.

Q:so my bathroom sink is filled with puke cause my sister was sick. I put draino in it, then ten minutes later I put a little more, then I put hot water, and then it didnt work so I put baking soda and then I realized I had no vinegar. Now what do I do? As you can see, Im very untrained and want to clean this up before my parents get home. Please answer, fast, please

The easiest fix, which may or may not be the source of the problem. Is remove the elbow pipe. If you look under your sink there will be a straight pipe going down, then a U or sometimes referred to as J shape that then goes sideways. The U is the elbow. Loosen the two clamps, take it out, clean it. Put it back together the same way you took it apart (really simple). If the clog is not in there. You may have to go buy a pipe snake at the hardware store and snake the drain.

Q:What do you think is more appealing? A wooden cabinet with a one piece vanity top for a sink that would double as storage or a pedestal sink made of porcelain and a piece of wooden bathroom furniture that would be the storage unit?

i like the wooden cabinet w/ sink top. it think it's more elegant. can also be rustic, depending on your style.

Q:the pop up drain plug in my bathroom sink has become unattached from the pull lever, does this mean its broken? How do I repair it?

It sounds like the main branch that connects the two drains together may have a obstruction! More than likely it may be hair in the bathtub drain, and the sink. Try this: Fill up a large pan of water and put it on the stove, now heat that up to a boiling point. While that is heating up, go into bathroom and remove stopper from tub drain (if possible) and see if the drain is just clogged with hair. If it is, then use needle nose pliers or a hook of some sort to pull all of it out. That should do the job. Then continue with the step below. If you cannot get the stopper off or there's no visible obstruction, then continue to te next step.. Just make sure that both sink stopper are up and no visible obstruction is in the way. Next, carefully take the pan of boiling water and dump it right down the tub drain...let it sit for a couple minutes. Then next put a wet hand rag into the overflow (right above drain in tub) to cover up the opening so no air goes through the overflow for the next step. Now use a plunger and gently start plunging the water down. The trick to plunging is not to force the air down, but the suction up is where it works best! Pulling it up hard, and then gently pushing back down repeatably works well. If after 5 minutes no luck..wait until water goes down all the way, and then repeat the boiling water and plunging 2-3 times and that should do it. Let me know if that works for you.

Q:If you are washing your hands, rinsing sink after brushing teeth, etc., the sink fills up with water. Does anyone know why this would happen? The only thing I can think of is that water covers the entire opening to the drain, and air cannot escape when water tries to move in.I have tried liquid de-clogging products, which seem to work a little, but the pipes are PVC, and pretty clean. I disassembled them and checked.Thanks!

The stopper might need adjusting, the over flow might be clogged and sink can't breathe

the sink might be screwed into the wall or unto the cabinet look inside the door if no door and your remodeling make sure the water is turned off and start chipping away at it where you removed the caulk good luck be carful wear saftey glasses

Q:So it's one o'clock in the morning and my boyfriend gets up to go to the bathroom. Then a few minutes later I hear a loud boomand I go running to see what happened. There is a large crack down the side of our ceramic bathroom sink all the way down to the metal piping. My boyfriend is startled and Confused and mumbles something abOut his head hurting so i think one of the chunks shot off and hit his head. So the sink is sitting there minding it's own business and this guy comes into the room half asleep and falls on it. The weight of they guys head landing on it stresses the sink at the plumbing connections and the sink cracks with a bang. The guy goes back to bed feeling a little embarrassed and lazy because in he's a guy after all, and doesn't want to miss the football game on the weekend so he blames the sink and tells the owner it's the sinks fault. The sink did not randomly explode, there was someone in the room when it happened. The sink sat there all night before he was there.
